Exclusive: Good Deed Entertainment has acquired world rights to the romantic comedy Advanced Chemistry, starring Samba Schutte (Our Flag Means Death), Chaunté Wayans (Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready), Sarah Burns (Barry), Kiran Deol (Sunnyside), Iqbal Theba (Glee) and T’Keyah Crystal Keymah (That’s So Raven).

Good Deed Entertainment is set to release the film in theaters beginning September 3rd and on digital platforms October 8th, 2024.

The film is directed by first-time feature director Etana Jacobson and produced by Alec Moore, Jane Miller, Sarah Burns, and Jacobson, with Moore also writing the screenplay. The film was executive produced by Luke Taylor and Matthew Helderman of Buffalo 8. Pic follows a scientist (Schutte) who injects his best friend (Wayans) with a compound he’s created to help her stop cheating on her wife (Burns), but when the wife finds her new fixation suffocating, the wife gets a dose too, which backfires as she falls for the scientist.

Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.

“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”

Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

HBO Announces New “The Last of Us” Season 2 and “The White Lotus” Season 3

Two of HBO and Max’s biggest dramas have welcomed new cast members this past week.

First, the Emmy-nominated post-apocalyptic survival drama “The Last of Us” announced “Dopesick” star Kaitlyn Dever will be joining the show’s second season, based on the sequel video game in Naughty Dog’s “Last of Us” franchise. Dever will play new co-lead Abby, “a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.”

Emmy nominee Young Mazino (“Beef”) will also join Season 2 as Jesse, “a pillar of his community who puts everyone else’s needs before his own, sometimes at [a] terrible cost.”

The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).

After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.

Ofmd has an incredibly passionate fan base, and they’ve kept the series in the spotlight on Twitter since season one wrapped up on March 24, 2022. After announcing season two way back in June 2022 and keeping fans anxiously awaiting more of Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, Max has now confirmed the second season will premiere on October 5, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes.

I've never been on a boat long enough to develop cabin fever. Still, I imagine it feels a little like having to wait several months for Warner Bros. Discovery to finally renew its surprise-hit queer pirate comedy series "Our Flag Means Death", and then having to wait another 14 months for hard evidence that season 2 is actually a thing that exists.

Thankfully, we can leave the passive aggression to 18th-century aristocratic high society for now, and instead take joy in knowing "Our Flag Means Death" is not only coming back for more hijinks and romance on the high seas, it's coming back soon. Picking up where season 1 left things, this new season will continue the love story of everyone's favorite pirate dads, Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Edward "Ed" Teach/Blackbeard (Taika Waititi), as they -- hopefully! -- find their way back to one another after a series of unfortunate events...

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.

The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.

The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”

As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.

Created by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” stars Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi as real-life pirates Stede Bonnet and Ed Teach, better known as Blackbeard. The series follows Bonnet, an English aristocrat, as he abandons his family in an attempt to find himself as a pirate, with his mild-mannered and gentlemanly demeanor proving to be a poor match to a life of crime. After what felt like centuries of waiting (it was just a couple of months), HBO Max has finally renewed “Our Flag Means Death,” the seafaring pirate comedy that quietly became one of the most-watched and talked about shows of 2022. The show, from creator-showrunner David Jenkins, executive producer and star Taika Waititi and executive producer Garrett Basch, will return to HBO Max for a second season.

Loosely based on the real-life story of Stede Bonnet (played in the show by Taika’s regular collaborator Rhys Darby), the so-called “gentleman pirate,” who left his life of luxury to sail the seas (with civility). Along his adventure he crosses paths with the fearsome Captain Blackbeard (played by Waititi). Former Flight of the Conchords and What We Do in the Shadows collaborators Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi set sail for the high seas and charter a return to the mockumentary in HBO Max’s Our Flag Means Death.

For the upcoming series, created by showrunner David Jenkins, the fellow New Zealanders suit up as two notable figures in the pirating world: Darby as aristocrat-turned-pirate Stede Bonnet and Waititi as the elusive and notorious Blackbeard. The stars spoke with Deadline about coming aboard the comedy and striking gold with the latest addition to their lengthy history of collaboration.

“I feel really lucky when something like this comes along,” mused Waititi, who serves as Our Flag Means Death executive producer and directed the pilot. “This is the most fun I’ve had acting for a long time.”

Sword-carrying, swashbuckling vigilantes who kill each other with kindness? This clearly isn’t your typical pirate tale.

Set in 1717, “Our Flag Means Death” follows Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) after he trades in his aristocratic lifestyle to become captain of pirate ship Revenge following a midlife crisis. Helmed by creator David Jenkins and executive-produced by Taika Waititi (who also stars as Captain Blackbeard), “Our Flag Means Death” is loosely based on the real-life adventures of Bonnet and his crew.

The 10-episode season premieres March 3 on HBO Max with three episodes, followed by three more episodes March 10, two episodes March 17, and the two final episodes March 24.

The streaming platform revealed on Wednesday that the series from creator and showrunner David Jenkins and executive producer Waititi will debut on March 3. Our Flag Means Death is loosely based on the true adventures of 18th century pirate, Stede Bonnet (Darby). After trading in the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede becomes captain of the pirate ship Revenge. Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes change after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Waititi). Fred Armisen & Samba Schutte have boarded HBO Max’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, joining stars Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi. The series hails from writer David Jenkins, Garrett Basch and Dan Halsted.

Created by Jenkins, who also serves as showrunner, Our Flag Means Death is based loosely on the true adventures of Stede Bonnet (Darby), a pampered aristocrat who abandoned his life of privilege to become a pirate.

Armisen and Schutte join the cast in recurring roles. Details about their characters have not been revealed. The ensemble cast also includes Ewen Bremner, David Fane, Nat Faxon, Nathan Foad, Joel Fry, Leslie Jones, Samson Kayo, Guz Khan, Rory Kinnear, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill and Vico Ortiz.

Freshman series Indebted, which marked The Nanny star Fran Drescher’s return to network comedy, has been cancelled at NBC.

It joins Bluff City Law and Sunnyside, which have also both now been officially axed.

Indebted, which comes from writer Dan Levy, Sony Pictures Television and Doug Robinson Productions, launched in February and ran for 12 episodes.

Starring Drescher, Adam Pally, Abby Elliott, Steven Weber and Jessy Hodges, the series was centered around young parents Dave and Rebecca, who were ready to reclaim their lives after years of diapers and sleepless nights, but things take an unexpected turn when Dave’s parents show up unannounced and broke.

NBC pulled “Sunnyside” from its schedule earlier this week, but the Kal Penn comedy will continue streaming Season 1 on Hulu. That wasn’t always a guarantee.

On Tuesday, NBC announced that it was pulling freshman sitcom “Sunnyside” from its schedule after just four episodes, banishing the remainder of the season to its digital platforms and effectively canceling the show.

NBC simultaneously announced that it had commissioned an additional episode, bringing the total number of installments for the season from 10 to 11. According to an individual close to the show’s producers, the episode won’t actually wrap up the run, which has an ending — it will instead be shoehorned into the existing story arc, around Episode 8 or 9.

The “Sunnyside” writing staff is scrambling to get that script ready for production, the individual tells us.
