Gladys Baker was born on 27 May 1902 in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. She was married to John Stewart Eley, Martin Edward Mortensen and Jasper Newton Baker. She died on 11 March 1984 in Gainesville, Florida, USA.
Mother of Marilyn Monroe. Gladys left her husband Martin Mortensen 4 months after their wedding. However, as they were still married when Marilyn was born, he is recognized as her legal father (he is named the father on her birth certificate). Biographers believe Charles Stanley Gifford (1898-1965), a salesman for Consolidated Films, where Gladys worked, is Marilyn's father. Mortensen divorced Gladys when "their child" was 26 months old. He nor Gifford played any part in Marilyn's life.
