She had fellow KDFW (Channel 4) sportscaster Kevin McCarthy fired from the station on June 6, 1986 because he had thrown her into a hotel swimming pool during an after work gathering. (Another incident for his firing was that he violated company policy by allowing a friend to ride in the station's news helicopter on May 30, 1986.) An arbitration ruling on April 23, 1987 awarded McCarthy reinstatement to his Channel 4 position and almost 11 months of back pay; on May 4, 1987 McCarthy resigned, officially ending his relationship with Channel 4 when he and the station reached a financial settlement in undisclosed terms.
