As you may have heard, the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con International was not the usual Sdcc experience.
On July 14, the American actors’ union SAG-AFTRA joined their writing counterparts in the WGA by going on strike and picketing the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for its refusal to grant them a fair deal. Since the details of the strike preclude actors and writers from promoting their union-backed films and TV shows, many of the planned panels, promotions, and guests at Comic-Con had to bow out.
The end result was a Con that very much resembled the event’s earlier days before it became a action item on the calendar for big studios like Marvel, DC, and others to showcase their upcoming blockbusters. And you know what? It was all still pretty cool!

Nearly 30 years after its cinematic debut, I assure you, the Quick Stop is open once again thanks to "Clerks III." After trying to manifest this project in a number of different ways since the release of the second film in 2006, fan-favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith is finally presenting the third chapter in Dante Hicks and Randal Graves' story in a theater near you. And interestingly enough, this movie brings the New Jersey native all the way back to his first chapter as the characters that kickstarted his career back in the early '90s are now making their own movie about working in a convenience store.

We've never watched a single episode of "Comic Book Men" so the prospect of its stars being in a horror flick isn't exactly a selling point for us. That being said a flick that "pays homage to the grainy and gory genre flicks of the VHS era?" Yep, that we're sold on!

Comic Book Men owes a lot to The Walking Dead’s popularity now that it was been given a Season 2 renewal, along with the live talk show, Talking Dead, of 16 episodes. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s an increase of 10 episodes from the show’s first season, which only contained 6. But the increase in episode count comes at a price. The show will no longer be an hour long, but will shrink down to a half-hour. So in reality, Comic Book Men is only getting an extra 4 episodes, but that’s still an increase so nobody should be complaining about this news. I know I’m not.

AMC has given 16-episode renewals for second seasons of the unscripted shows "Comic Book Men" and "Talking Dead." The renewals come accompanied by many effusive statements from all involved. "Pinch my fat ass, 'cause I must be dreaming! A thousand thank you's wouldn't cover the gratitude I'm feeling right now. And as you might imagine, everyone at SModcast Pictures is in love with everyone at AMC today! Rest assured, Walt, Bry, Mike, Ming and I are suited up and ready to hit the ice for our second season with Team AMC," blurbs Kevin Smith. "Comic Book Men" focuses...

The most interesting moment of the just-completed first season of Kevin Smith's AMC reality series "Comic Book Men" occurred in its second episode. A customer comes into Smith's store, Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash, looking to sell some collectibles. He's got a complete set of the classic DC maxi-series "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and a Batman print signed by artist Jim Lee. As Stash manager Walt Flanagan and employee Ming Chen assess the collection, they ask the seller, a man in goatee and ponytail who bears a faint resemblance to a young Kevin Smith, why he wants to part with his prized possessions. "I'm just trying to make a little extra money to get a film camera," he says."Trying to be a film director and an editor. I'm selling off the past to pay for the future." Flanagan chuckles, "That sounds familiar." That familiar story is...

Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash—or simply “the Stash,” if you’re down—is a comic book shop in Red Bank, New Jersey. The sheer existence of the store when so many others are closing, in and of itself, might be noteworthy but what really gives this place some cachet is its owner: Kevin Smith. A comic book shop is a comic book shop, but when it’s in some way connected to the tour de force that I (and other people, probably) like to call Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, who isn’t going to want to visit? The new show Comic Book Men’s appeal is similarly tied to the Jersey Girl director—the unscripted series is set in the Stash and produced by Smith. I like Clerks, I like Chasing Amy, I like most of Dogma, I’ve gone to (and enjoyed) one of Smith’s live Q&A shows, so...

Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) made a lucrative career in making films and whoring merchandise for the slacker, the geek, and yes, the common store clerk. But in recent years Smith and his entourage have become accessible to his fans through a variety of podcasts or “Smodcasts,” the most popular featuring with Smith with film producer and friend, Scott Mosier. Now Smith is taking the Smodcasts and relying on his loyal fanbase to turn the tube to AMC and their latest reality-tv show, Comic Book Men, produced by the people behind L.A. Ink, to shine a light on the world of running a comic book shop.
For those unaware, Smith owns a shop, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in his hometown of Red Bank, N.J. and it is where the show is staged and the subjects are those who stand in front of and behind the counter. The...

So, you’re considering checking out Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men on AMC (right after The Walking Dead season 2 return), but have no idea what to expect. Here are five quick tidbits on the new series that may make you hate or love the new show from Smith (and a strange appearance by Gollum from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).
1 – Kevin Smith is barely in the shop.
If you were looking to see a show that was pure Smith in action, think again. This pilot focuses more on the store workers and less on Smith. The Executive Producer only appears inside the podcast room where the group discusses events from the week. It’s a live podcast in every sense of the word.
2 – These guys love comics, well most of them do
Walt Flanagan is the store manager of The Secret Stash and has been a friend of Smith’s since high school.

It took a full 30 seconds for the cast of Kevin Smith's Comic Book Men to make their first penis joke. Immediately, we realized the show would do little to dispel any of the stereotypes associated with comic store owners and staff.
AMC's new reality show chronicles the life and times of five people working at the New Jersey comic book store "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash." Cutting between shenanigans at the store, a roundtable podcast, and the pursuit of rare collectibles, Comic Book Men promised on the surface to provide a unique look into the often-misunderstood world of pop culture collectibles.
Unfortunately, despite some promise and a few clever elements, the show was too slowly paced to capture the viewer's interest. While the pilot episode contains some wit, and at least a few laugh out loud moments, for the most part it leaves you wondering if there was...

It took 41 years, but Kevin Smith is finally proving his parents wrong.
"They always said, 'Your friends are idiots. You can't sit around and goof off with your friends.' I was like, 'Yeah we can,'" Smith tells TVGuide.com of his new AMC reality series, Comic Book Men, starring his childhood friends-turned-comic book store employees Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Mike Zapcic and Ming Chen.
Comic Book Men (Sunday, 10/9c) is best described as Pawn Stars plus Clerks multiplied by comic books: one part docu-series about the crazy clerks, quirky customers and collectibles at Smith's Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash comic book store in Red Bank, N.J., and one part talk show, where the guys gather together — no confessional needed — to discuss the...
