So You Think You Can Dance has been a mainstay of Fox‘s reality show lineup since it debuted in 2005. The show has featured many entertainers as judges during its runtime, both full-time and as special guests. Given the longevity of So You Think You Can Dance, it can be hard to remember who has appeared on the show and when. Here is a full rundown of Sytycd’s judges.
All of the guest judges on ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
The format of So You Think You Can Dance has broadly stayed the same throughout each season. The panel comprises two to four permanent judges, with guest stars joining in occasionally. For callback episodes and season finales, the panel could rise to twice or more its normal size.
Here is a list of the guest judges who have appeared in each season of So You Think You Can Dance.

Here’s a sentence you would only hear while watching So You Think You Can Dance: “You guys are playing aliens that have been transported into human bodies.”
Yep, it’s safe to say that things got weird on the second live broadcast of Season 14 — and not just because of the extraterrestrials. In the course of two hours, the Top 10 couples took the stage once more to dance for America’s votes, resulting in more than one out-of-this-world routine (and a few that missed the mark).

Monday’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance at last revealed the Top 10 contestants for Season 14, after weeks of stunning auditions, brutal training at The Academy and far too much footage of the All-Stars looking conflicted about who to cut.
Over the course of two hours, we finally learned who each All-Star decided to bring to the performance shows — and the resulting duos set a very high bar in their first live outing.
Below, let’s recap Monday’s routines, in the order each finalist was revealed:

I don’t think anyone would mistake So You Think You Can Dance‘s 12th season as its strongest — aside from viewers who were trapped in some sort of Footloose-esque, no-grooving-allowed nightmare for its first 11.
But while the Great Stage-Vs.-Street/Jason Derulo-Vs.-Descriptive-Adjectives Experiment of 2015 lacked something in diversity (whatever happened to ballroom and disco?), gut-busting emotional concepts (what I wouldn’t have given for one routine on par with “Addiction Dance“) and insightful critique (Mary Murphy and Misty Copeland, I missed you!), I’d be lying if I said summer TV still wasn’t the better for it.

We kick things off with an unimpressive routine from Stacey Tookey and Peter Chiu which mostly seems to consist of taking off red latex coats to reveal boring underwear. Of course, the choreography may be stunning, but it turns out that when you dress dancers in matching red coats, turn on red lights and generally bathe the stage in red, nothing seems to pop. Considering that Tookey has done consistently great work, I think I blame the lighting guy. Our judges are Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and singer-songwriter... Carly Rae Jepsen? Um, why? So You Think You Can Dance‘s Vegas rounds give us roughly the same amount of drama as American Idol‘s Hollywood week, but the stakes are actually higher because everyone in Vegas is extraordinary in at least one form of dance. On Idol, there’s always a chance some moron who squawked an Ok version of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” won a ticket to Hollywood, you know? On Sytycd, everyone is an astounding talent — which is why it’s sort of disappointing when unqualified guest judges like Hannah Simone from New Girl and Jason Derulo of “JaSON DeruloooOOooOO” fame get a say in the proceedings. Simone was honestly introduced as “a dance enthusiast.” It would’ve been more bad-ass if she were “an anti-dance curmudgeon” or something more threatening.

“You already know how this will end.” That was the refrain of the song chosen by classically trained Chehon Wespi-Tschopp for his final solo of So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, but it was also fitting commentary on the suspense level most of the show’s fans felt going into this week’s telecast. The Top 10 became 8 this week on So You Think You Can Dance with the first appearance by this season's All-Stars, which included fan faves Nick Lazzarini, tWitch, Brandon Bryant, Allison Holker, Jaimie Goodwin and (finally!) Alex Wong. Along with guest judge Benjamin Millepied (French ballet dancer/choreographer and married to Natalie Portman), judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy were clearly more pleased with the dancers this week after last week's disappointing Mia Michaels' tribute episode. It also probably helped that many of the dances were choreographed by Travis Wall, Nakul Dev Mahajan, Dmitry Chaplin and Emmy nominees Stacey Tookey and Spencer Liff.

Among the couples that struggled were Janelle and Dareian, starring in their first cha-cha. It was a tough routine by Pasha, and they executed the choreography but had a tough time latching on to the technique.

You've read Louis Virtel's recap of last night's So You Think You Can Dance so now let's hear what the judges, choreographers and the two eliminated dancers had to say about the show. Also (because I promised Nigel I'd tell you), Saturday is National Dance Day so make sure to put shaking your booty on your agenda. And if you're so inclined to videotape your moves, they could wind up on the show. (And/or in Ed's Morning Meme)

Veronica Lake, Charlie Chaplin, Christina Applegate, and the Alvin Ailey all figured prominently in last night’s Top 16 episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Okay, so Veronica Lake wasn’t actually Veronica Lake, but rather Emmy-nominated hostess Cat Deeley dropping cheeky asides about “hot water and towels” to expectant choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon.
Oh, and the Charlie Chaplins were actually our Top 16 dancers in mustachioed drag, part of a Tyce Diorio group number that left me as cold as a meat locker (maybe it’s because I’m generally opposed to routines where I can’t tell one...

Things got animated at the Fox TCA panel for "So You Think You Can Dance." Cat Deeley emerged from backstage to introduce a special performance by current competitors Brandon, Cole and animator Cyrus. It's a high energy start to a somewhat groggy Monday morning, and while judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy and choreographers Spencer Liff, Christopher Scott and Stacey Tookey aren't quite as much fun, they still addressed some of the more nagging questions about the recent changes to the show. When asked why this season both a male and female winner will be chosen, Lythgoe said, "Going down to one night a week, we...

Watching So You Think You Can Dance‘s Season 9 Top 20 announcement episode — its first this year with live, choreographed dances — I was struck by the fact that the show really is like an old friend. No matter how long it’s been away, it only takes a minute or two for me to fall back in step with its warm and familiar cadences.
There was Cat Deeley, playfully announcing that just minutes into the telecast, she was already covered in the sweat of nearby dancers. (Not nearly as gross as it sounds.) There was Mary Murphy, hooting like a tipsy...

While Nigel Lythgoe announces that this year's competition on So You Think You Can Dance--now reduced to just one night a week--will have two winners (one male, one female), he mysteriously left out how those winners will be chosen. I'm excited for the season to kick off, but I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to the new voting system. I just can't help but feel like the ninth season--which could be the last if ratings don't hold--might screw its loyal fans over.
We get through our first bunch of dancers, which will obviously be a contemporary bunch because Duh. Alexa, who has struggled through this year's auditions, finally makes it in after getting cut at the last minute in season 8, and she's absolutely ecstatic about it. I'm intrigued to see if she can withstand the pressures of the Top 20, but she is an early favorite. She joins Amber...

Eating, sleeping, and getting our dance on: Fox has our three favorite activities covered with its summer 2012 schedule.
The network announced Wednesday that Season 9 of "So You Think You Can Dance" will premiere Thursday, May 24 at 8 p.m. with a two-hour premiere. The following Wednesday (May 30) the show will settle in its regular timeslot. Of course, Cat Deeley will host again, with Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy sitting in as the permanent judges. Throughout the season, guest judges will rotate in, including Adam Shankman, Debbie Allen, Tyce Diorio, Lil' C, Stacey Tookey and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Aside from the dance, Gordon Ramsay reigns supreme on Fox. He kicks off another season of "Hell's Kitchen" at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29. For the first time ever, "Hell's Kitchen" will expand to two shows per week starting on Monday, June 4, when we'll have new episodes on Mondays at 9 p.m. and Tuesdays at 8 p.

Fox has announced its summer original slate, which looks a lot like last year’s, with So You Think You Can Dance and Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and Masterchef all returning. They will be joined by Ramsay’s newest series Hotel Hell, originally slated for a spring run in the Friday 8 Pm slot but pushed to summer to make room for The Finder, which was relocated from Thursdays to Fridays. Fox also made the format change for Dance official, scheduling the summer staple once a week and canceling the results show. The show’s co-creator/executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe announced the news back in January. Dance will kick off its ninth season with a two-hour premiere on Thursday, May 24, the night following the end of the broadcast season and the season finale of American Idol. It will move to its regular Wednesday 8-10 Pm slot the following week.

With the confetti settled on Melanie Moore's "So You Think You Can Dance" victory, we now look ahead to those dark nine months of every year where we don't get to watch one of our favorite shows.
In the interest of letting it linger just a little bit longer, we've come up with our favorite five dances from the 19-year-old Season 8 champ's time on the show. There are few showcased during last night's finale and a few that didn't seem to warrant an encore, but we love them all equally.
So here they are in no particular order...
Melanie and Marko, "Light Bulb"
Obviously the finale can't dwell entirely on the top 4, but we were surprised not to see Dee Caspary's contemporary get any love from the judges. It was one of the strongest collaborations between Melanie and Marko and one of our favorites from the entire season:

It was a fitting performance finale, no? There were a couple of high points — Tadd’s boxers, Marko and Lauren, Cat scoring Melanie a job (albeit on the much-maligned remake of Dirty Dancing), Melanie and Sasha’s Stacey Tookey routine, Mark and Sasha Sonya Tayeh piece, Sasha’s solo… are we noticing a trend here? But the night was mostly marked by a “Where did that come from?” sense of struggle from all four finalists. Were you underwhelmed, Dance fans? Or do you think the final four pulled it off? Who do you think should win? Who do you think will win?...

Oh Katie, how do you book these gigs?
I'm not sure Katie Holmes topped her previous utterly useless appearance on So You Think You Can Dance (The one where she performed a totally out of context pre-taped and lip-synced version of "Get Happy"). But last night on the judges' panel she fell almost equally flat.
I'm sure the woman is very sweet and, as my sister remarked last night, she actually seems to get prettier as she gets older. But what the hell? She just rambled on all night with obsequious and often nonsensical comments like... "I loved it when you jumped up" or "I love your outfits. If everyone could dance the way you can in an outfit, boy, fashion would be even more beautiful."
Not a critical or incisive word to say to anyone - making her endless effusive praise sorta meaningless. Kenny Ortega seemed to fare better as a judge,...

Fox Janette Manrara and Marko Germar on “So You Think You Can Dance”
We’re down to the top four, and the final two shows! The four will dance solos, partner with All-Stars, dance with each other, and have mini-interviews with Cat.
Who will be crowned America’s favorite dancer? Tonight’s your last chance to vote!
Cat’s in a strapless, blingy, sparkly dress, with her hair up and red lipstick. And, for once, even the hemline is very nice.

So You Think You Can Dance airs the first half of its Season 8 finale Wednesday night, and with Melanie, Sasha, Marko, and Tadd in the mix, you know we’ll be witnessing tears, standing ovations, and possibly even tickets for the not-referenced-as-frequently-as-it-used-to-be Hot Tamale Train. (Woo-hoo!) What better time to review the 12 best routines from the show’s previous eight weeks of performance episodes? Without further ado, let the countdown begin…
12. Iveta and Nick (Top 20, Quickstep: Jason Gilkison) Yeah, it’s a little cray-cray that in Week One of competition, our World Champion in Quickstep drew…the Quickstep! But a...

So You Think You Can Dance delivered surprising twists aplenty on Wednesday night. Nine of the 10 remaining dancers scored rave reviews from the judges. One choreographer got spanked rather harshly by this week’s guest panelist. And an All-Star dancer bled (rather sexily) for his art. But nothing will be more shocking than seeing one of Season 8′s fabulous female contestants head home on this week’s results show. (Shouldn’t the FCC step in and threaten Fox with a hefty fine for denying us another week of one of these singularly fierce ladies? And doesn’t that sentence make...

Tonight’s show is thoroughly entertaining. For the first time I rewind a lot of the dances during commercials, and the judges’ comments made me see things in them I might have missed. I would probably enjoy many of the dances more if the camera didn’t pan around so much and I could see them the way the judges do. All the judges do a routine with an all-star,...

Fans up in arms on couples leaving the show. Who were the stars tonight? Who slipped, in my eyes!?
As I promised, I want to address so many of you about the fact that contestants are leaving as couples. This has not happened in the history of Sytycd. Trust me, there is no conspiracy. We do not have to do this because of the network or Nigel. We would love nothing better to see a mix-match of partnerships, since this is the part of the show where we usually see a partner shift.
We try to take everything into account...
