He won a scholarship for the Theatre department of Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts in 1994. In 1998 he graduated from this school as a high honor student. His first professional acting experience was in 1998, in Ariel Doffman's play "Widows" directed by Rutkay Aziz in Ankara Art Theater. During 1999 - 2000 season, he worked in Diyarbakir State Theater. At the same time, he tutored stage and acting classes in Diyarbakir City Theatre and directed the play "Peace Island" at the same institution.
In 2002, he was appointed to Erzurum State Theatre in order to complete his compulsory service. Upon receiving his Master's Degree in Master of Art in Theatre Directing Programme from Hacettepe University State Conservatory ,he began teaching as a lecturer in the Faculty of Fine Arts Theatre Department in Erzurum Ataturk University in 2005. In 2008, he resigned from his position at the State Theatre and started working in Istanbul. He worked in theaters such as Dot and BKM. In 2009 - 2010 season he became an actor of Istanbul City Theaters with the play "Dress Rehearsal for a Suicide". The play was staged as a sellout for 3 seasons and brought the actor his nomination for Year's Most Successful Musical/Comedy Actor in 14th Afife Theater Awards.
In 2012 he founded a production company called "Cats & Dogs (Soho Istanbul)". In 2014, he portrayed "Imam Hamdi" in the Palme d'Or winning film "Winter Sleep" directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor
in 47th SIYAD Turkish Film Critics Association Awards with the same performance.
Following his dreams since college, Serhat Kiliç, has finally founded an art school, "SCHOOL Serhat Kiliç", in 2014 providing training programs for acting, writing, dancing and singing.
