He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2003 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to scholarship. He is the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor of Land Economy at the University of Cambridge in Camrbidge, Cambridgeshire, England. He is an environmental lawyer and Chair of the Government's new 20 member Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission.
