Aleksandar Popovic was born on October 6, 1984, in Belgrade. He is a Canadian actor who is best known for his role as Petar on the Starz series, Power. In 2019 he completed two pilots, one of which he wrote, directed and starred in along with a series of short films that he also wrote, directed and starred in.
Aleksandar was born in the former Yugoslavia and is of Croatian decent. He is the son of Nadia Popovic, a Physiatrist Assistant and EMG Specialist, and Michael Pepa, a contemporary classical music composer.
Having always had a draw to film, Aleks decided to attend Toronto Humber College's Acting for Film & Television program to receive formal training. Under the mentorship of Program Director John Bourgeois and Coach Michael Caruana, Aleks was given a strong foundation to develop his craft as an actor.
After college Aleks studied with Lewis Baumander in Toronto. It was during this time that Aleks made his big screen debut playing the star stricken hockey player, Walter Wodlowski, in Laurie Lynd's Canadian Indie Feature, Breakfast With Scot (2007), where he performed opposite Tom Cavanagh.
In 2011 Aleks moved to Los Angeles where he continues to study with Ivana Chubbuck in between gigs.
Aleks' stage debut came when he was cast alone side Danay Garcia, Frantz Turner and Michael Monks as the title character, Orestes, in Director Lucas Thanos' modern interpretation of Oresteia (2012).
His first television break came when he was cast as the Serbian drug distributor, Petar, in the Starz series, Power (TV Series 2014- ). He starred opposite Omari Hardwick, Joseph Sikora and 50 Cent.
In addition to acting, Aleksandar is an avid poet has collaborated with acclaimed Canadian composer, Alice Ho on a piece that tributes Yoko Ono. Also, Aleksandar will be debuting his folk album "Black Tears" (2019) and is publishing his children's story "The Wolf In Black Sheep's Clothing" (2019), as well.
