"The Big Bang Theory" spans 12 seasons and the same number of years, so we have to face some facts here: some of the episodes are bound to be total stinkers. Certainly, a few episodes in "The Big Bang Theory's" storied history can compete for the absolute worst spot of them all, but what is the worst of the worst according to fans? We just have to look at IMDb ratings to find that out.

The show is on Max, TBS, and Spectrum, and you can rent it or purchase it digitally on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and elsewhere. "The Big Bang Theory" is one of the most successful and widely-enjoyed network comedies to come about in the last 20 years. Hailing from the mind of mega-producer Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, it ran for 12 seasons on CBS, totaling nearly 300 episodes. It also spawned several spin-offs, most notably "Young Sheldon." But all good things come to an end, and so did the show in 2019 when the season 12 finale aired. It's impossible for any finale to please everyone, though, and "The Big Bang Theory" left many fans of Kunal Nayyar's Raj feeling unsatisfied, as his love life was left hanging a bit in the end. That said, the show's creative team had a reason for doing that.
Raj had quite a few love interests over the course of "The Big Bang Theory," but he was single come time for the finale.

When it comes to some of the worst plots in The Big Bang Theory, Penny and Raj’s suggested one-night stand has been one of the top in the listing. The particular episode drew disdain not only from fans but also from the showrunner and creator, who were unhappy with how Season 4 ended.

However, fans especially hated the showrunners further establishing a complex dynamic between the two friends, which many believe started from the popular sitcom Friends, which later influenced similar plotlines in more sitcoms, including The Big Bang Theory.

In many sitcoms, the main characters change a lot in the early stages as the show finds its feet, and "The Big Bang Theory" was no exception. Penny, for instance, was originally supposed to be a much meaner, more cynical character; in the un-aired pilot of the series, she wasn't even named Penny at all. Likewise, Raj was a character it took a while for the writers to properly figure out. Not only did he change a decent amount on the show itself, but in the production of season 1, the writers changed his entire name and backstory. As reported in the 2022 book, "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," Raj's name was initially Dave.
"Dave" was supposed to be "American-born to immigrant Indian parents," but as co-creator Bill Prady recalled, "When Kunal [Nayyar] came in and we heard his accent,...

"The Big Bang Theory" was not exactly "Seinfeld" when it came to generating controversy with its audience. The nerd-friendly show never killed off a character who was preparing wedding invites, and its series finale didn't enrage viewers with a Sartre-esque final scene of the quartet yammering on about nothing in a prison cell. "The Big Bang Theory" was a generally nice show with some mildly unlikable characters (namely Simon Helberg's Howard Wolfowitz), and no one ever wished it had gone just a little harder.

When you think of "The Big Bang Theory," the massively popular CBS sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, you probably think of the five lead actors who kicked off the show — namely, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, and Kaley Cuoco. As it happens, Nayyar was briefly fired before Lorre got him back on board to play Raj Koothrappali (fighting against CBS in the process), and Cuoco wasn't the first person to play Penny; in fact, the character was originally named Katie and designed to be a foil for Parsons' Sheldon Cooper and Galecki's Leonard Hofstadter. So who played her, and what has that actress been doing since then?

Despite being the beloved sitcom that it is, The Big Bang Theory hasn’t been without its issues and problematic moments. One such instance occurs in the very first episode of Season 5 after the storyline entangles Penny with Raj in a controversial twist.

Jim Parsons is best known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory. The role made him a staple in pop culture, with his exaggerated performance of a difficult yet loveable physicist making him a global star. He also won several Emmys and a Golden Globe for his performance.
Parsons has since played multiple roles although none as iconic as Sheldon. He even came on board as a narrator for the spinoff series Young Sheldon. The series has given him a lot of stardom and has added to his net worth. So, how much did Jim Parsons earn from his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory?

When a show runs for a really long time, continuity mistakes and storyline errors are bound to pop up — but this one from "The Big Bang Theory" feels just a little bit egregious, to be honest. So what is it? Sheldon Cooper, as played by Jim Parsons, is supposed to be allergic to cats, but then an entire episode centers around the fact that he adopts like, a dozen cats.
At the very beginning of the series — the show's third-ever episode "The Fuzzy Boots Corollary" — it's firmly established that Sheldon is allergic to felines, which doesn't feel particularly surprising based on his character; he's obsessed with cleanliness and order, so an allergy to household pets dovetails nicely with his need for everything to be proper and perfect.
This character trait only becomes a problem in the show's fourth season — specifically, in the season's third episode "The Zazzy Substitution" — when Sheldon,...

If a television series is fortunate enough to earn a second season and more, it's only natural for viewers to start getting attached to certain characters. "Star Trek" fans were immediately enamored of Spock, but, by the second season, it was impossible to not feel some affection for everyone from the amusingly pompous Captain Kirk to the curmudgeonly ship's doctor "Bones" McCoy. And once you fall for these characters, you naturally want to know more about them — where they're from, why they joined Starfleet, and what they want out of life. And when this information only gets parceled out in bite-sized pieces, you start to look elsewhere for clues.
One series that grew its ensemble in ways its fans found irresistible was "The Big Bang Theory." For 12 seasons, viewers fell first for the main trio of Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Leonard, and Penny (Kaley Cuoco), but eventually embraced the larger ensemble...

If you're a fan of "The Big Bang Theory," you probably can't imagine anyone besides Jim Parsons playing Sheldon Cooper, the irritatingly brilliant protagonist around whom the rest of the main characters — Leonard and Penny Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco), Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), and Sheldon's eventual wife Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) — all orbit. Apparently, during the casting process, Chuck Lorre had some concerns about Parsons as a performer, according to his co-creator Bill Prady.
During a 2021 appearance on the "At Home with the Creative Coalition" podcast (per People Magazine), Prady remembered exactly why Lorre didn't want to cast Parsons. "We saw — oh God, I don't know, 100 people?" Prady said. "And when Jim Parsons came in, he was Sheldon on a level — you know, there were people who came in and you went, 'Okay, well, he's kind of okay,' 'Oh, he's pretty good,...

Ever wondered exactly how the cast and crew of "The Big Bang Theory" filmed all those scenes where they trudged up and down the stairs in the apartment building where Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), and Penny (Kaley Cuoco) all live? Kunal Nayyar, who survived studio interference and played Raj Koothrappali on the series, explained it, and it honestly sounds sort of irritating.
During a conversation on the British morning talk show Sunday Brunch in February of 2022 (per The Independent UK), Nayyar told host Tim Lovejoy that it's a simple albeit slightly stupid explanation. "The way it works is, you go down the stairs, and then they yell, 'Hold,'" Nayyar said before confirming that it's basically a single hallway. "They change the scenery from like, if the apartment says 1a it suddenly says 2a or 3. They change the set so it looks exactly like another floor.

We all have gross, weird habits. I'm not going to write mine down here, because I'm a lady and nobody needs to know that, but we all know that we do. Unfortunately for Johnny Galecki, his "Big Bang Theory" co-star Kunal Nayyar — who did ultimately play Raj Koothrappali on the series after briefly being fired before it began filming — has put all of Galecki's dirty little secrets on blast. Well, he's put at least one on blast — specifically, the really gross way that Galecki disposed of his chewing gum on the set of "The Big Bang Theory."
During an appearance on the British show "Sunday Brunch" (via The Independent UK) in February of 2022 to promote his show "Suspicion," Nayyar talked a bit about how they filmed all those stairwell scenes before revealing something unbelievably disgusting about Galecki. Asked about what was past the stairwell set, Nayyar was quite blunt: "Down there is nothing.

Did The Big Bang Theory foreshadow Sheldon’s relationship with Amy? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
When The Big Bang Theory first aired, it focused on four geeky scientists. But then Penny entered, and the whole scenario changed. But then, in season 3, Mayim Bialik appeared as Amy Farrah Fowler. Although Amy officially debuted in the Season 3 finale, hints of her arrival had been dropped since Season 1. In The Bat Jar Conjecture, Raj (Kunal Nayyar) jokingly mentioned, “You know who is very smart is the girl who played TV’s Blossom,” referring to Bialik herself.
Sure, it was just a throwaway gag at the time, but it indicated that the writers had Bialik—and, by extension, Amy—on their minds long before they pulled the trigger on her character. Who knew a simple joke about a sitcom star would one day lead to Sheldon’s perfect match?

Ever since "The Big Bang Theory" ended back in 2019, fans of the CBS sitcom have frequently wondered if stars Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, and Kaley Cuoco might ever come back to the roles that made them famous. Some, like Parsons, have — he's played the oldest possible version of Sheldon Cooper on the first spin-off of "The Big Bang Theory," the prequel series "Young Sheldon" — but Cuoco hasn't played Penny Hofstadter since the series finale of the original show. So, what did she tell People Magazine when they asked if she'd be willing to step back into Penny's shoes?
Apparently, Cuoco is totally down to play Penny again. "I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career," Cuoco told the outlet in an exclusive chat. "I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre," she added. "It was some...

"The Big Bang Theory" may have broken its own reality by casting Mayim Bialik in its third season. That's because the show mentioned the actress back in season 1 -- a reference that made her later appearance a bit more meta and paradoxical than the show usually gets.
Bialik comes up in the show's thirteenth episode, "The Bat Jar Conjecture," when Sheldon (Jim Parsons) gets booted from the core group's physics bowl team. In search of a new fourth member, the guys start brainstorming, and Raj's first idea is a bit out there. "You know who's apparently very smart, is the girl who played TV's Blossom," Kunal Nayyar's character says. "She got a PhD in neuroscience or something!"

The Big Bang Theory has had a slew of industry giants cameo in its epic 12-season long run. Be it Stephen Hawking, Elon Musk, or James Earl Jones, there have been appearances that just fit perfectly into a show made for nerds and geeks.

Sandra Bullock, a long-time favorite of Kunal Nayyar’s Rajesh Koothrappali, was also expected to make a cameo in the show, but it was scrapped due to scheduling conflicts. However, it might have been for the best, given the amount of backlash that the character’s ending received.

In the series finale, The Stockholm Syndrome, almost all of the main cast members were given a romantic happy ending.

Kaley Cuoco is ready to bring Penny Hofstadter back to screen, saying she’d happily join some sort of Big Bang Theory revival. “I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career,” Cuoco tells People in a new interview. “I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had. … I would absolutely reprise that role. 100 percent.” On The Big Bang Theory, Cuoco’s Penny is an aspiring actor who moves into a Pasadena apartment across the hall from nerdy physicists Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons). Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar were other original stars of the show, playing scientists Howard Wolowitz and Raj Koothrappali, respectively. Later cast additions included Sara Gilbert, Melissa Rauch, Mayim Bialik, Kevin Sussman, and Laura Spencer.

Throughout its 12 season and 12 year run, Chuck Lorre's blockbuster CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory" played host to a ton of guest stars, from several "Star Trek" veterans to the late James Earl Jones and the legendary scholar Stephen Hawking. According to an oral history of the series, though, one particular Oscar winner, Sandra Bullock, had to turn down a role in the series finale, "The Stockholm Syndrome," due to scheduling conflicts.
In Jessica Radloff's 2022 book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," executive producer Steve Holland revealed that the show's creatives tried to book Bullock for a short cameo opposite Kunal Nayyar's character Raj Koothrappali in the episode, but she wasn't available, so "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar stepped in. It seems impossible to imagine anyone but Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Kaley Cuoco on "The Big Bang Theory," but the truth is that other actors were considered before showrunner Chuck Lorre and his team found the perfect people for the lead roles. Marisa Tomei read for Cuoco's character Penny — who was also played by a different actress in the show's original, unaired pilot — and Kevin Sussman originally auditioned for the lead role of Howard Wolowitz (which went to Helberg in the end) before getting his own supporting character. Apparently, "Home Alone" star Macaulay Culkin was also approached for a role ... but he definitively said no.
During a 2018 interview with Joe Rogan, Culkin said that he hasn't really considered any major sitcom roles throughout his career, though it depends on the overall quality. "I couldn't see myself doing a sitcom or a television show kind of thing.

The Big Bang Theory can easily be one of the most sought after shows on the CBS network. Even after its 12 seasons run, fans wanted more from the show. Apart from the quirky humor and the not-so-easy to understand science jargons, the sitcom also boasted a stunning ensemble. And this massive popularity also brought in some of the highest paychecks in television history.

Laura Spencer, best known as Emily Sweeney on The Big Bang Theory, revealed a mind-bending twist behind one of her scenes—turns out, it was all improv! Spencer’s unsettling moment on the show wasn’t scripted; it was pure, off-the-cuff brilliance that added a whole new layer of tension to her character.

Big news from the world of The Big Bang Theory!
According to a new report from Deadline, the upcoming untitled Tbbt spinoff has added three beloved cast members from the original series.
Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, and Brian Posehn will all make their returns to the Big Bang-iverse in a sequel series that’s otherwise shrouded in mystery.
On the original series, Sussman portrayed comic book store owner Stuart Bloom, who quickly developed into a fan favorite.
Lapkus and Posehn played Denise and Bert Kibbler, respectively, so it’s safe to assume that the spinoff will center around that trio of characters.
More casting announcements are sure to follow, but it seems that locking down the key three was producers’ top priority.
This is the first indication of the new show’s focus since it was first announced back on April of 2023.

Max’s Big Bang Theory spinoff is no longer in its “prenatal stage.” Franchise vets Kevin Sussman (Stuart), Lauren Lapkus (Denise) and Brian Posehn (Bert) have all signed deals to star in the potential offshoot, TVLine has confirmed.
According to our sister site Deadline, which first broke the news, the offshoot remains in the early stages of development; there’s been no official green light, and a script is still being written. That said, this news would confirm that the series will be a true spinoff — not a sequel series comprised of mostly new characters (à la Hulu’s How I Met Your Father...

When you're a performer on a major sitcom, you're probably saddled with some rules and restrictions about what you can and cannot do while you're not filming. Apparently, the creator and showrunner of "The Big Bang Theory" — sitcom legend Chuck Lorre — insisted that nobody make major changes to their hair during the run of the series for continuity purposes, which makes sense; all of the main characters established their individual looks pretty early on in the series, so it stands to reason that they'd all look roughly the same. Still, in precisely one episode, Parsons and his co-stars Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar — who play Leonard Hofstadter, Howard Wolowitz, and Raj Koothrappali, in that order — were allowed to sport beards.
In the season 3 premiere "The Electric Can Opener Fluctuation," Leonard, Howard, Raj, and Sheldon return from an expedition to the North Pole where they were conducting research on magnetics,...

In 2017, two years before "The Big Bang Theory" came to a close after twelve years and the same number of seasons, two of the show's newer cast members kicked off negotiations over their pay. What ended up happening? The rest of the cast rallied behind them ... and made sure that everyone in the ensemble would be paid fairly.
According to a report in Variety from that year, before the show's 10th season, the main cast of the show — Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, and Kaley Cuoco, who play Sheldon Cooper, Leonard Hofstadter, Raj Koothrappali, and Penny, respectively — all agreed to take a pay cut so that their enormous paychecks could be more evenly distributed to Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik, the show's relative newcomers and the women behind the characters Bernadette Rostenkowski and Amy Farrah Fowler. The four male leads on "The Big Bang Theory" — Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper, Johnny Galecki as Leonard Hofstadter, Simon Helberg as Howard Wolowitz, and Kunal Nayyar as Raj Koothrappali — feel so synonymous with their roles on Chuck Lorre's sitcom that it's hard to imagine transplanting them onto any of the show's other competitors. As it turns out, though, Parsons very nearly played a very different TV character: specifically, Barney Stinson, the role ultimately portrayed by Neil Patrick Harris on "How I Met Your Mother" (which also aired on CBS).
In 2015, Parsons told daytime talk show host Kelly Ripa and her co-host at the time, Michael Strahan, that he read for Barney and found the character sort of baffling (via Yahoo!). "It was one of the stranger experiences of my life," Parsons recalled. "Because you know how it is to audition for things. They come out with character breakdowns and stuff,...

Actors steal stuff from set all the time, honestly. Emmy winner Sarah Snook admitted that she snagged some "family photos" of her character, Siobhan "Shiv" Roy, after "Succession" came to a close, and Christopher Walken once revealed that most of his wardrobe is comprised of purloined outfits from his various projects. Simon Helberg, who spent 12 years and seasons playing Howard Wolowitz on "The Big Bang Theory," is no exception — so what did he steal?
In a Reddit post that features a photo of one specific page from Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," Helberg finds himself reflecting on the fact that the series came to a close at the right time, largely because he thinks he would have looked way too old to wear Howard's pop-culture tees and signature turtlenecks. Still, he said he kept one part of Howard's eclectic wardrobe.

If you're even a little bit familiar with "The Big Bang Theory," you know that it's always been sold as a "show about nerds" — so it makes sense that it featured a whole bunch of actors who also appeared in the "Star Trek" franchise.

There are a few things that even casual fans know about "The Big Bang Theory." For one, it's a show about "nerds." Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, says "Bazinga!" a lot. Also, the elevator in the building where most of the main characters live is broken for most of the series. So why is that? According to the showrunners, it all came down to the way they wanted to stage the show's "action," so to speak.
During a 2020 appearance at WonderCon, a fan asked about the elevator and whether co-creators Bill Prady and Chuck Lorre ever "considered" fixing it. "That's a great question," panel moderator Wil Wheaton said, before executive producer Steve Holland weighed in: "The elevator being broken actually serves a really important purpose on the show."
"So, one of the things you need is a place for characters to 'walk and talk,'" Prady said in response to Holland.

No matter how many times you’ve watched The Big Bang Theory, we bet that there’s still so much that you don’t know about the hit series.
For instance, did you know that Sandra Bullock was supposed to appear on the show? Her role went to another very popular actor after her team sent a “polite decline” to the offer for a simple reason.
Revolving around Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar, so much happened onscreen, but it turns out that just as much was going on when fans weren’t watching.
We did some digging and rustled up 12 facts about the show, including details about guest stars who turned down roles (that list includes a massive pop star), actors who were almost overlooked, onset romances, future plans for reboots and more.
One actor even admitted to using their dressing room for hooking up.

All good things must come to an end, and that includes "The Big Bang Theory." After kicking off its run in 2007, the show concluded in 2019 after winning veritable piles of Emmy Awards (including several for star Jim Parsons) and after a whopping twelve seasons on CBS. It's been a while since the series ended, so it's fair to ask: what happens in the finale, and what does it mean for the entirety of the show's story?

According to an oral history of Chuck Lorre's popular CBS sitcom, Bialik had some serious competition for the role of Amy ... and the actress who almost booked the gig ended up playing a recurring role anyway. So why did Bialik edge out "Garfunkel & Oates" actor Kate Micucci?
In Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," Lorre and his writer-producer Steve Molaro said that Bialik's real-life education helped her land the role; in 2007, Bialik earned a PhD in neuroscience from the University of California, Los Angeles (she also graduated from there in 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in the same field). As Lorre and Molaro told Radloff, that put Bialik over the edge.

"The Big Bang Theory" enjoyed a 12-season run as one of the most popular sitcoms on television, but you might not know that the pilot that ultimately aired on CBS wasn't creator Chuck Lorre's first attempt at the project. That unaired original pilot? It's pretty weird, objectively bad, and very different from the show most fans recognize.
In the pilot of "The Big Bang Theory" that made it to air, Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) head home from an "errand" — they try to donate sperm to a "high-iq" bank, only to panic and run — to find their new neighbor Penny (Kaley Cuoco) moving in across the hall. Leonard is immediately smitten with Penny, much to Sheldon's consternation, and he readily invites her into their apartment to meet their friends Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Raj Koothrappali and eat some lunch. From there, Leonard's pursuit...

Despite its stature in pop culture, The Big Bang Theory is not exempt from criticism, as certain aspects of the Jim Parsons-led sitcom haven’t aged gracefully, especially the prolonged eating scenes. To say the Tbbt cast isn’t great at fake eating would be an understatement, and Johnny Galecki was arguably its greatest offender.

But while it was annoying for viewers, there’s a legitimate reason why The Big Bang Theory cast and most actors avoid eating their meals on camera.

Considering that the sitcom didn’t shy away from incorporating prolonged meal sequences on a regular, on close viewing, it becomes pretty apparent that the actors aren’t exactly feasting on their meals.

When it comes to The Big Bang Theory, fans know the writers had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Raj. But Jim Parsons, always sharp and ahead of the curve, predicted something about the show that hit hard in the finale—and yeah, we’re all nodding in sad agreement. Raj, the lovable astrophysicist, went from awkwardly silent around women to being done so dirty by the end.

While other characters got their fairy-tale conclusions, Raj was left… well, let’s just say without much fanfare. Was it a missed opportunity or a setup for a Raj redemption arc we never got? Either way, the finale gave us all the feels, but poor Raj deserved better.

While appearing on "The Big Bang Theory," the late James Earl Jones met one of his "Star Wars" castmates ... for the first time. How did that happen, and who was it?
I know it sounds wild, but the truth is that Jones and Carrie Fisher didn't actually perform together during the original "Star Wars" movies, because Jones only voiced the trilogy's main villain Darth Vader; the antagonist was physically portrayed by David Prowse, a British actor and bodybuilder who passed away in 2020. Prowse also said Darth Vader's lines on set, and ultimately, Fisher's lead character Princess Leia Organa only had a handful of scenes with the big bad — plus, as it turns out, the two never ended up meeting while doing press for the films. (Fisher tragically and quite unexpectedly passed away back in 2016 at the age of 60.)
This all changed in 2014 when both Fisher and Jones appeared on "The Big Bang Theory...

Not every single episode of "The Big Bang Theory" is a winner — which makes sense. Chuck Lorre's hit CBS sitcom, which ran from 2007 to 2019 and spanned 12 seasons and 279 episodes, was always pretty well-received by audiences, but again, that's no guarantee that every single installment won them over. Aside from the show's unaired pilot, which is famously weird — and even features a totally different actor as Penny, who would eventually be played by Kaley Cuoco — there are a handful of episodes that just sort of stink, and we've compiled five of the biggest duds.
Whether it's because the characters are extra infuriating, there's a new character who really sucks, or the central group ends up separated, there are plenty of things that can make a "Big Bang Theory" episode less than great. These five are especially grating and ridiculous, so if you don't want to suffer through them, call this...
