Her grandmother Roxie Roker died at 2 minutes after midnight on December 2, 1995. Zoe's family was concerned that her grandmother would die on her birthday and they did not want to commemorate the death of her grandmother on the same day as Zoe's birthday.

Her semi-nude appearance on the November 2018 cover of Rolling Stone magazine was a recreation of a similar shot of mother Lisa Bonet for the May 1988 cover (when she was two months pregnant with Zoë).

Zoe's paternal grandfather, Sy Kravitz, was from a Russian Jewish family, and Zoe's paternal grandmother, Roxie Roker, was of African-American and Afro-Bahamian descent. During an interview for the August 2015 issue of Nylon magazine, she revealed that she was denied an audition for a small role in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) because of her race. She was told that "they" weren't "going urban". Zoë never revealed who told her that. Years later, she played Catwoman in The Batman (2022) and was praised for her performance. In a March 6, 2022 interview for The Observer, Zoë said she doesn't know if the "going urban" quote came directly from the film's director, Christopher Nolan, and that she thinks it was probably from a casting director or a casting director's assistant. In a post on her Instagram story on March 8, 2022, Zoë clarified that she wasn't told she was "too urban" for the role of Catwoman in 'The Dark Knight Rises' like some click-baits suggested, but that she wanted to audition for a small part in the film when she was told that they weren't going "urban" on the part. Reps for Nolan did not respond to People magazine's request for comment on the matter.

She and her father, Lenny Kravitz, have both appeared in a film with Jennifer Lawrence: Zoë in X-Men: First Class (2011), her father in The Hunger Games (2012) and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013).
