- Camera and Electrical Department
Darrel Gamotin was born in the Philippines and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was on a seventh grade field trip to see a production of Guys and Dolls at the New Jersey City University when he was introduced to the possibilities of theatre. After being cast in a few musical theatre productions in high school, he found himself with a fellowship at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. There he discovered the basis of his acting training and the love of the craft. He did this while he worked his first job as a delivery boy from a pharmacy across from city hall in NYC and was re-introduced to the city and all it's glorious characters with the lens of a young eager teenager fascinated by acting.
In the middle of high school, Gamotin moved with his family to a suburb in Toronto, Canada. He quickly found his footing in local theatre as he was cast in Shakespeares classics as Romeo, Laertes and Sebastian after a brief stint as a fairy in A Midsummer Night's Dream. He trained in the Second City Conservatory for a few years which lead him to several successful shows at the Toronto Fringe Festivals and solid understanding of the art of improvisation.
Gamotin found his footing in the Toronto Theatre scene as an actor and a playwright in companies like The Carlos Bulosan Theatre, Fu-gen Theatre, Cahoots Theatre and Factory Theatre. All of which prepared him for the lovely collaborations on film and TV that he's enjoyed to this day.
