Bryan E. Miller is a creative film composer whose goal is to help maximize the emotional impact of visual media by creating powerful, evocative film scores. Bryan studied at the Grove School of Music, and UCLA Extensions Film scoring program. Early in his career Bryan honed his craft by assisting composer Mark Waters on more than 50 episodes for Disney and orchestrated and conducted for composer Mychael Danna who has since won an Academy Award. Bryan then founded Sensory Overload Music, where he has composed and produced music for hundreds of projects and has created over 80 albums of music he licenses to movies, television, commercials, documentaries, and DVD features. His clients include Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate, NBC Universal, CBS, ABC, A&E and The Style Network.
You've probably heard his compositions in American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Boston Legal, The Big Bang Theory, Next Top Model, The Shield, General Hospital, Southland, and Access Hollywood, or listened to his signature music for the Comcast Logo. His music has also been featured in Superbowl commercials, Tony Scott's Dodge Ram campaign and numerous TV spots for Nike, Microsoft, Taco Bell, AOL, Wells Fargo, Campbell's, Dodge, Honda, Yamaha, John Deere, Lexus and Ford.
It was based on his versatility in multiple musical genres and his passion for making a difference beyond just art that Bryan was chosen to compose the score for the new feature film by New York Times best selling author turned filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza: "America: Imagine the World without Her." This is the much anticipated follow up to D'Souza's surprise hit, 2016: Obama's America becoming the second highest grossing political documentary in history. Produced by Academy Award winner Gerald Molen (Schindler's List, Jurassic Park), the story spans continents, centuries, and musical styles; from orchestral, Americana, Mexican, Irish, Native American, Negro spirituals, electronica, to protest rock which gave Miller a chance to showcase the depth and range of his musical expertise. Bryan signed with Milan Records, which released the "America" soundtrack album.
Miller has since gone on to compose for all of D'Souza's subsequent films, including his landmark political documentaries "2000 Mules" and "Police State". Within less than two weeks of its release, "2000 Mules" became "the most successful political documentary in a decade", going on to gross $11 million within two months of its release.
Miller served as both composer and executive producer for "School Spirits", a teenage supernatural thriller featuring a cast of teenage influencers including Tiffany Alvord. Miller co-wrote several songs for the film including "Without Warning" which is performed by the super talented Tiffany Alvord and Tyler Ward. and "I"ll Be There For You" featuring Tiffany Alvord and Casey Breves.
Miller was selected to score "Te Ata", a narrative feature that tells the story of Mary Frances Thompson Fisher who set her sights on Broadway and what she thought was her life's dream. After repeatedly being rejected from auditions, she began to wonder if she was cut out for the bright lights. The score is a blend of orchestral and Native American influences, featuring Native performer Brad Clonch and a Native American Choir. The movie had an international theatrical run and can now be seen on Netflix.
Next Miller created the Western score for "Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher". "Montford" is a remarkable story inspired by the life of renowned Chickasaw cattleman Montford T. Johnson, a man who overcame great hardships to establish a ranching empire along the famous cattle highway of the American West, the Chisolm Trail. While composing the score to "Montford", Bryan E. Miller set out to musically capture the full spectrum of emotion that characterizes Montford's highly compelling story, from heartache and loss to triumph against all odds. Over the course of the score, Miller employs his full range of sonic palettes to conjure the bleakest of dirges to the sweetest warmth of authentic, down-home Americana. Miller traveled to the heart of Oklahoma to work with local musicians, capturing genuine bluegrass harmonica and fiddle and also native Chickasaw vocalizations and percussion. Miller was also privileged to work with celebrated local singers such as Ben McKenzie and Josh Meloy whose rugged, soulful voices help to make Montford's story come alive in full-length songs which are the flagship of the soundtrack. The Montford score is a rich tapestry of cultural textures and emotive tones which appropriately reflects Montford's mixed heritage and his amazing legacy. For his work on "Montford", Miller was honored with the Western Heritage Award, AKA "The Cowboy Grammy", for Outstanding Traditional Western Music Album. The film can now be seen on Netflix.
Miller also composed the haunting original score for the independent psychological thriller film "Nefarious", written and directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon and based on Steve Deace's 2016 novel, "A Nefarious Plot". It stars Jordan Belfi as a psychiatrist who must determine if a convicted death row inmate (Sean Patrick Flanery) is faking his alleged demonic possession. The film was very well-received by movie-goers, achieving a 96% fresh audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and earning $12.5 million between domestic box office and digital revenue.
Though primarily a composer of dramatic and narrative films, Miller loves the documentary genre, and frequently takes time to compose music for charities and humanitarian organizations like St. Jude Children's Hospital, World Vision, Best Friends Animal Rescue, and The Museum of Tolerance. Bryan's view: "It's a wonderful feeling when you can be part of a passionate team that wants to bring positive change to the world."
Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Bryan now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and 3 children.
