Actor Brooke Shields has been elected president of Actors’ Equity Association, the union has announced.

Shields took the lead in a three-way race, beating out stage manager Erin Maureen Koster and actor Wydetta Carter. Actors’ Equity is represents 51,000 actors and stage managers.

Shields succeeds Kate Shindle as president, who announced in April that she would not seek re-election when her nine-year tenure ended May 23. Shindle has said that she will remain active in the labor movement but now intends to focus on resuming her acting career, noting that the unpaid position of president left her with so little time for acting that she had not been able to clock enough professional hours to quality for Equity health insurance.

Shields’ win was confirmed this morning by Equity, which announced the results of its 2024 Officer and Councilor Election. In total, 45 council seats across all three regions and representing four categories were filled, effective immediately. All terms are four years except where noted.

In addition to Shields, the 2024 officers include Rashaan James II, elected Eastern Regional Vice President; Sarah Labarr, elected Central Regional Vice President, without opposition. Jeffrey Landman was elected Western Regional Vice President, without opposition. All officers were elected to four-year terms.

In announcing her run for the presidency in April, Shields said, “I felt it was my responsibility to step up, I want to lead with strength. I want to lead with intelligence, with compassion, with passion. And, of course, a little bit of humor, always…I have been in the trenches with you and you have always had my back. And I’m here to tell you that I have your back.”

Shields comes to the position with no experience in union leadership, but has been a working actor since childhood. She has appeared on Broadway in Grease, Chicago, Cabaret, Wonderful Town and The Addams Family.

The fifth and final season of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” will see the return of Kelly Bishop’s matchmaking magnate Benedetta alongside nine other additional cast members.

Joining Bishop in the final season is Alfie Fuller (“Little America”), who has been upped to series regular, reprising her season four role as Dinah Rutledge. Jason Ralph (“The Magicians”) also returns as a series regular, continuing his role as Mike Carr.

Also joining the cast in recurring roles this season is Peter Friedman (“Succession”), Chloë Kerwin (“Asleep in my Palm”), Austin Basis (“Supernatural”), Josh Grisetti (“Nurse Jackie”), Michael Cyril Creighton (“Only Murders in the Building”), Eddie Kaye Thomas (“American Dad”) and Lucas Kavner (“The Jim Jeffries Show”).

Amazon Prime Video’s Emmy-winning hit comedy comes from creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and executive producer Daniel Palladino, who also write and direct. It stars Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, Marin Hinkle, Michael Zegen, Kevin Pollak and Caroline Aaron.

The Marvelous Mrs. is coming to an end, and the show will be looking to the past when the final season gets underway.

Kelly Bishop, Alfie Fuller, and Jason Ralph have all been confirmed as returning for the fifth season of the Prime Video dramedy.

Additionally, Peter Friedman (Succession), Chloë Kerwin (Asleep in My Palm), Austin Basis (Supernatural), Josh Grisetti (Nurse Jackie), Michael Cyril Creighton (Only Murders in the Building), Eddie Kaye Thomas (Scorpion), and Lucas Kavner (The Jim Jefferies Show) have all landed roles on the final season.

Prime Video, however, is keeping their roles under wraps until closer to premiere date, and given that we might be waiting a while, it makes sense.

The good news is that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 5 is already in production in New York.

The cast of Prime Video’s “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” is growing in its final season.

Kelly Bishop, Alfie Fuller and Jason Ralph will be returning for Season 5, the streamer announced Wednesday.

“Gilmore Girls” alum Bishop, who plays Benedetta, returns as a guest star, while Fuller, who plays Dinah Rutledge, and Ralph, whose character is Mike Carr, will be series regulars for the final season.

Peter Friedman, Chloë Kerwin, Austin Basis, Josh Grisetti, Michael Cyril Creighton, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Lucas Kavner are also joining the cast in recurring roles. They’ll all play new characters introduced in the final season.

Amy Sherman-Palladino created the show and executive produces with Daniel Palladino. The pair both write and direct the series.

Show Premise

After reflecting on the life of his recently deceased plumber coworker, Eugene Gurkin realizes that he wants to get more out of life, and decides to steal from the rich and famous in order to get it. He enlists his plumbing colleague, a cab driver, a security guard, and a waitress to achieve the goal. Together they decide on a target, Mick Jagger, which begins a series of foolishly constructed schemes to break into the rock star’s NYC high rise apartment.

According to the show's Facebook page, Emma Hunton Josh Grisetti, and Justin Johnston will join the cast of off-Broadway's Rent on January 20. Johnston wrote on Twitter 'That's right. I start Jan. 18 at New World Stages in NYC. Who knew... Roger'. Hunton added 'So excited for rehearsal tomorrow. Make sure you all come down to New World Stages and come see Rent.' The trio will replace Annaleigh Ashford, Adam Chanler-Berat and Matt Shindledecker as Maureen, Mark and Roger.

"9 to 5," the musical version of the 1980 hit movie comedy, received a generous stimulus package from the Drama Desk on Monday, netting a record 15 nominations from the organization of New York-based theater critics, reporters and editors for its annual awards.

Other top nominees included "Shrek the Musical" with 12, "Billy Elliot" with 10, "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" with six and the "Hair" revival with eight.

The previous record for the most noms was 14 shared by five shows -- "The Secret Garden" (1991), "Ragtime" (1998), "The Producers" (2001), "Hairspray" (2003) and "The Drowsy Chaperone" (2006).

ABC recently reshuffled its Wednesday night schedule in response to the ratings powerhouse American Idol on Fox. As part of that reshuffling, the network moved The Knights of Prosperity from 9pm to 8:30pm. Would that be enough to save the sitcom? Apparently not.

But will that move be enough to save newbie sitcom The Knights of Prosperity? Probably not. It looks like the show's fate may already be decided.

The Knights of Prosperity debuted on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 on ABC. The sitcom follows a gang of misfits (the "Knights") who come up with the idea to burgle rock-legend Mick Jagger's luxury apartment. The show was initially going to be called Let's Rob Jeff Goldblum but was changed to Let's Rob Mick Jagger when Goldblum's Raines pilot for NBC was picked up. That titled was changed to Knights of Prosperity, perhaps at the request of Jagger who appeared in the premiere episode. The series features actors Donal Logue, Sofia Vergara, Lenny Venito, Maz Jobrani, Kevin Michael Richardson and Josh Grisetti.
