The Power, Corinna Faith’s haunted hospital creeper, hinges on such a richly atmospheric historical context that it’s a wonder it hasn’t been used as the backdrop for more horror. Set in 1974 London, the action takes place during a period known as The Three-Day Week––a time when the government-mandated power outages (and imposed other restrictions) to combat the lack of resources caused by widespread mine strikes. Faith’s film leverages both the physical realities of these blackouts and the class-based anger of the moment for maximum effect. It eventually resorts to well-intentioned but inelegant info dumps to reach its climax, but the tactile environments and direct filmmaking separates it from most films of its ilk.
The story centers around Valerie (Rose Williams), a first day nurse who’s been having nightmares related to an unclear trauma, and has a comically unlucky fear of the dark. Raised in an orphanage,...

In 1973, beset by a labor crisis that led striking miners to upend the coal industry (and thus most of the country’s power supply), Britain decided to conserve what power they were still able to generate with a wild idea: planned electricity cuts. Between New Year’s Eve 1973 and early March 1974, the country periodically shut off most of its power in the dead of night, leaving its cold and scared citizens desperate for morning. First-time feature filmmaker Corinna Faith sets “The Power” inside this strange, scary bit of history and

When did you last hear characters in a horror film talking about trade unions? It's strange that it's rare, when you think about it, because there's usually safety in numbers. One person might be weak alone but when they form the right alliances, they can have power. This idea goes to the heart of Corinna Faith's film, but the alliances don't necessarily develop where you might expect them to.
Young Val (Rose Williams) is quickly disabused of the notion of nursing as a sisterhood when she starts her first day at a busy hospital. The Matron (Diveen Henry) is strict to the point of scaring her a little, whilst staff on her own level are constantly vying with one another. One of them, shameless social climber Babs (Emma Rigby), knows a little about her past in the local orphanage, and soon people are muttering about her reputation and the supposedly awful.

Once Upon A Time in Wonderland has landed on Disney+.
Now that everybody has had the chance to binge it, let's discuss a truth universally acknowledged by all those who have seen both spinoff and original series:
Will Scarlet was screwed over!
Will was the best part of Once Upon A Time in Wonderland. No disrespect to Alice, Anastasia, Jafar, or even Cyrus.
We love Alice. She's a badass!
Anastasia had a beautiful arc, and she's a beautiful person inside and out.
Jafar was scary as F*#*@!
And while Cyrus was no Prince Charming, he had a charm all his own.
But let's not kid ourselves. Wonderland would not have been half as enjoyable without a certain thief.
The Knave of Hearts, Aka Will Scarlet, started as comic relief. He helped Alice, and we thought he might be in a love triangle with Alice and Cyrus.
Instead, we got the...

Once upon an ABC schedule, Adam Horowitz and Edward Ktisis wrote a little show about fairy tales. Once Upon A Time spanned seven seasons, and at least three of them were really good!
While that last good season, Once Upon A Time Season 3 was airing, Horowitz and Kitsis made another show set in the Onceverse: Once Upon A Time in Wonderland.
Once Upon A Time in Wonderland only lasted one season, but for thirteen glorious episodes, it was one of the best things on TV. Being so short, it never made it to DVD, and it hasn't been on a streaming service in eons. Now, finally, it's coming to Disney+ this month!
As a die-hard fan of Wonderland, imagine my surprise when this news was met with equal surprise. Why you ask? Because a lot of fans of Once Upon A Time never even knew there was a spinoff.

Director: Julian Gilbey; Screenwriter Julian Gilbey, Will Gilbey, Chris Howard; Starring: Ed Speleers, Alfie Allen, Will Poulter, Sebastian De Souza, Emma Rigby Running time: 102 mins; Certificate: 15
Imagine The Inbetweeners starring in a low-rent Brit imitation of American Hustle, having first undergone a collective personality transplant. Whatever's now in your head is probably still wittier and more charming than Julian Gilbey's inane heist movie Plastic, which sees four student fraudsters get in over their heads after stealing from the wrong Polish mobster.
The young cast are all appealing enough for you to overlook just what shallow archetypes they're playing - there's the brains (Ed Speleers), the arsehole (Alfie Allen), the stalwart (Will Poulter) and the sap (Sebastian De Souza), none of whom have much in the way of a backstory or, weirdly, a family. But what they do have is an impressive sideline in credit card fraud; they clone cards,...

Though Julian Gilbey’s comedy caper Plastic is somewhat undemanding, easy to indulge in entertainment, that’s all thanks to the exhilarating narrative at hand. Though given this quite incredible set of events are based on a true story, it means that writer Gilbey, joined by his brother Will and Chris Howard – cannot truly take the credit, as the film’s concept had been born out of genuine events. Ultimately, in this instance, it’s the execution of the story that is the film’s very undoing.

Debuting last October, the show's premiere drew a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.82 million viewers. That was a mediocre start at best and then, the ratings saw a significant drop in week two. The numbers have continued to fall over the course of the season.

The first trailer has arrived for slick British crime film, Plastic, in which pals Will Poulter, Ed Speleers, Alfie Allen and Sebastian De Souza decide to take their small-time crime operation into the big leagues. To do so, they’ll be moving into the glamorous arena of dodgy credit cards, and to help them into this brave new world, they’ll be needing the assistance of the lovely Emma Rigby. Unfortunately, however, these bigger scores go hand in hand with bigger risks, and one man in particular isn’t best pleased with being ripped...

Generally speaking, one doesn't look to British films for glamour. Old-school class, perhaps. Grit and grime, sure. But Plastic is attempting to add a little more of the sort of sun-soaked, high-living style we associate with our Us cousins to this crime thriller, so you might want to don sunglasses before you check out this trailer. The film sees Ed Speleers' Sam and Will Poulter's Fordy running a credit card scam, along with mates Yatesey (Alfie Allen) and Sebastian De Souza's Rafa. But wouldn't you know it, they get on the wrong side of the wrong man (Thomas Kretschmann) and find themselves forced to come up with a lot of money very fast. We suspect that the presence of Emma Rigby's Frankie in their corner will help, from the looks of this trailer, but we'll have to wait and see on that score. Also starring Graham McTavish...
