Thriller ‘Clutch’ Wraps Production: Featuring Sadie Katz, Kaiwi Lyman, Mike Ferguson, and Augie Duke
Director Michael Merino’s upcoming action-thriller “Clutch,” starring Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6), Kaiwi Lyman (Den of Thieves), Augie Duke (Mayans M.C.), Mike Ferguson (Showdown at the Grand), with Michael Pare’ (Streets of Fire) and Vernon Wells (Mad Max 2) has wrapped production and is headed into post.
“Clutch” was partially inspired by true events; writer-producer Michael Merino based the story on a real life car-jacking of a female rideshare-driver who was taken hostage by a criminal on the run from his less-than-law-abiding accomplices, who were involved in a deleterious enterprise that was never solved.
According to the official logline, “Clutch” follows the story of Tonya (Sadie Katz), whose life is in a bit of a shambles and works as a share-driver to make ends-meet, and is under the thumb of her sugar daddy (Michael Pare’). One evening while working Tonya is car-jacked and finds herself in the dark underbelly of the city’s mob.

Several years ago, Netflix shook things up by not only including top ten charts on its platform for viewers to see, but the streaming giant also made a whole website dedicated to sharing viewership metrics. It has provided an odd window into what people are watching on the world's largest streaming service at any given time. At the moment, a whole bunch of people are watching a new action flick called "Trigger Warning," which stars Jessica Alba as an ass-kicking Special Forces soldier/bar owner.
As of this writing, director Mouly Surya's film is sitting firmly in the number one spot on the Netflix movie charts ahead of the DreamWorks animated flick "Home" and Universal's "Fifty Shades of Grey." The latter film's star, Dakota Johnson, has been having quite the run on Netflix, as Marvel's "Madame Web" recently dominated the charts as well -- but that's another story altogether.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
My hunch about the higher production values for The Amityville Terror (2016) wound up being true, and whether it’s the slightly more polished look or a cast of professional actors, the sixteenth film in the “franchise” is easily the best in quite some time.
That’s grading on a scale since there are still some pretty glaring issues in the film, but, overall, director Michael Angelo has delivered a solidly entertaining Dtv film with soft callbacks to other franchise entries.
After a cold open that’s revealed to be a bracketing storyline, Amanda Barton’s screenplay quickly establishes a familiar foundation: a troubled family moves into a suspiciously cheap house on Amity Lane and the bad energy eventually manifests in murderous behavior.

Rlje Films has acquired the North America, U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand rights to “Sympathy for the Devil,” an upcoming psychological thriller starring Nicolas Cage (“Mandy”) and Joel Kinnaman (“The Suicide Squad” film series).
An agreement was reached between Rlje Films chief acquisitions officer Mark Ward and Christian Mercuri’s Capstone Global, an international company in charge of the feature’s global sales.
“This is our eighth collaboration with Nicolas Cage, which includes ‘Mandy’ — a critically-acclaimed film that has a huge cult following,” Ward said. “Once again, he doesn’t disappoint. In this film, Cage and Joel Kinnaman bring to life a suspenseful tale on screen that will keep audiences guessing.”

"You pissed off the wrong people... and I'm gonna kill you." Open Road Films has released an official trailer for Copshop, the latest Joe Carnahan action movie following Boss Level from earlier this year. Copshop is dropping in theaters starting this September, opening only in theaters first, which is the opposite of Boss Level since it released streaming on Hulu. A small town police station in the desert becomes the unlikely battleground between a professional hitman, a smart female rookie cop and a double crossing conman who seeks refuge behind bars with no place left to run. The film's cast includes Frank Grillo & Gerard Butler as a con artist and hitman, respectively, along with Toby Huss, Alexis Louder, Ryan O'Nan, Keith Jardine, and Kaiwi Lyman. I admit it's an entertaining action movie concept to set this big showdown at a small police station in the middle of nowhere Nevada. Joe...

This contains spoilers for the season finale of Quibi’s Don’t Look Deeper. Content warning for discussion of violence against Black bodies.
As director Catherine Hardwicke told Den of Geek in a recent interview, Quibi’s science fiction thriller series Don’t Look Deeper is a coming-of-age story “on steroids”—that is, it takes the existential questions about identity and power seen in other teenage stories and filters those questions through the metaphor of protagonist Aisha (Helena Howard) discovering that she is a robot. Over the course of the feature-length season (released in 7-to-10-minute episodes), Aisha asserts her autonomy to her human creators, challenges her peers who see robots as nothing more than property, and—most importantly—tries to save her robot brother Calian (Tyler Ghyzel) from a similar fate.
However, while Aisha’s identity as a robot provides the most action-packed stakes for the series, it is not the...

Pretty much my whole reason for giving The Final Wish a watch was because Lin Shaye stars in it. She is a seal of approval for me and I know that even if the movie disappoints, then I will at least see a good performance from the veteran actress. That said, this also features Tony Todd, another reliable horror icon and had some decent-looking poster artwork, so it had at least a few things going for it.
The Final Wish has a simple concept. After his Dad dies, a man (Michael Welch) heads back to the place he grew up to see his Mum (Shaye). While he is there he discovers a mysterious...

Country music star Trace Adkins continues to carve a niche for himself, along with several notches on his six-shooter, as an imposing presence in indie Westerns with his persuasive portrayal of a tarnished lawman in “The Outsider,” an unusually dark and brooding shoot ’em up capably directed by genre specialist Timothy Woodward Jr..
The movie itself, a deliberately paced, pared-to-essentials oater that clocks in at a lean and mean 86 minutes, might ruffle the feathers of traditionalists — i.e., the very people usually clamoring loudest for Westerns these days — who are easily upset by salty language, coarse behavior and other R-worthy elements in this unrated, family-unfriendly feature. But even those folks likely will appreciate the way Woodward and screenwriter Sean Ryan have respectfully recycled conventions and archetypes from sagebrush sagas of ages past without a trace of snark or satire, and added more than a smidgen of the fatalism that fueled...

"The universe demands balance. For there to be life, there must be death." Cinedigm has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled The Final Wish, which just premiered at the Screamfest Film Festival earlier this fall. The film is about a man who returns home after the death of his father, to help his grief-stricken mother and to confront his past. While going through his dad's belongings, he comes across a mysterious item that is more than it seems. That's the only plot details provided, and this trailer doesn't help explain anything. The Final Wish stars horror iconic Lin Shaye, along with Michael Welch, Melissa Bolona, Tony Todd, Spencer Locke, and Kaiwi Lyman. Unfortunately this film looks like yet another derivative, repetitive supernatural horror without much of anything new to offer the genre. Check it anyway. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Timothy Woodward Jr's The Final Wish,...

Danny Draven, who some genre fans will know as the director of Hell Asylum, Deathbed and other low budget fare, is back behind the camera for Ghost Asylum – a cheap (and audience-screwing) retitling of his 2012 film Reel Evil, which has already been released by 88 Films under its original title in 2014! The cast are fairly unknown so I won’t delve into their history in film here, it doesn’t need to be spoken about for this review to make sense.
Ghost Asylum is a found footage style horror movie, along the lines of Blair Witch and such, but sadly it doesn’t have the curiosity and originality of some found footage films, and instead follows cliques and falls flat in many areas throughout its short 78 minute running time.

"We gunna have to do something about that young marshall of yours..." Cinedigm has released the first official trailer for a new western called Hickok, also known as Abilene (which is the name of the town in Kansas that this takes place in). Not to be confused with the Don Wong starring, badly dubbed, poorly edited film of the same name – which I distinctly remember hiring from my local video shop – Ninja Apocalypse is set years after the great war, and the titular apocalypse, where humanity has become divided into separate clans of ninjas. Clans, which besides having your usual ninja-like martial arts skills, are also blessed with strange supernatural powers: some of which look like they stepped straight out of a video game – you know the type, the typical fireballs, lightning strikes and telekinesis.
Discovering a plot to attack their land, Grandmaster Fumitaka calls on the clans under his control to a meeting deep...

Here's a trailer for an awesome-looking martial arts fantasy film called Ninja Apocalypse. The movie was directed by Lloyd Lee Barnett, who has worked on the visual effects for films such as Avatar, Speed Racer, and Spider-Man. Judging from the trailer it looks like there will be some fun humor mixed in with some crazy cool action sequences involving martial arts mixed with magical powers. It looks like it will be a really entertaining, action-packed flick! The movie has a Mortal Kombat kind of feel to it, but it also has zombies! Not much is known about the plot of the film yet, but this trailer gives you a solid idea of what to expect.
The cast of the film includes Christian Oliver (The Three Musketeers), Ernie Reyes Jr. (The Rundown), Les Brandt, West Liang, Kaiwi Lyman, Tara Macken, Isaac C. Singleton Jr., Antoinette Kalaj, Mark Heidelberger, and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa...
