Vasant is a Mumbai-based writer and director who was part of the writers' room for Netflix's first Indian Original series, the smash hit crime drama Sacred Games, and is the Head Writer on Amazon Prime Video's drama series Notorious Girls of St. Matilda House. At present, Vasant is currently working as a head writer on an upcoming Amazon Prime drama series.
Vasant started his career as the personal assistant to Deepa Mehta during the production of her Oscar-nominated feature film Water. His short films Shanu Taxi, Sukrit's Sundays, and Sebastian and Rose have traveled to over 20 international festivals, including the prestigious Clermont Ferrand International Short Film Festival, winning awards nationally and internationally. His feature script, Sebastian Wants to Remember, co-written with his producer Michael Henrichs, is the first Indian project to receive EU Media Development funding.
Vasant is currently developing an India-set medical drama in collaboration with the creators of UK series Casualty, the longest-running primetime medical drama series in the world, and is currently also the head writer on an upcoming Amazon Prime drama series. He is also a Consulting Producer on an upcoming flagship drama series for Viacom18's Voot, Rowdy Records, where he works closely with the creative team to streamline story development and oversees the writing process.
Vasant studied Literature at Delhi University and Sociology and Politics at the University of Cambridge.
