George Amponsah is a multiple award winning film maker who first started taking pictures in the 1990s as a photographer and Super 8mm film enthusiast.
George completed direction of his first drama feature film in 2023 - 'Gassed Up' - about a London youth who gets mixed up with a rampaging gang of moped thieves. The Guardian Newspaper called 'Gassed Up' 'A Scorsese-like thrill ride'. Gassed Up went on UK nationwide cinema release in Feb 2024 and plays on the Amazon Prime streaming platform.
George was nominated by BAFTA in 2021 for directing 'Black Power:A British Story of Resistance'- (exec produced by Oscar winning director-Steve McQueen)
George won another BAFTA nomination back in 2017 for his feature length documentary- 'The Hard Stop' which reveals the true story behind the UK riots of 2011 following the death of Mark Duggan who was shot and killed whilst being arrested in a 'hard stop' procedure by armed police. This incident ignited a riot that escalated into a week of the worst civil unrest in recent British history.
In the UK George has worked with a number of established television production companies as a freelance producer/director making programs for all the major terrestrial broadcasters as well as many non -terrestrial.
George is a graduate of The UK's prestigious National Film and Television School where he won a Post-Office Scholarship to attend the documentary directing course.
