"Game of Thrones" had its share of recastings -- they were inevitable with a production and an ensemble as sprawling as the show had. The series had two Daario Naharises (Ed Skrein and then Michiel Huisman) and three Gregor Cleganes. After season 2, "Game of Thrones" also recast both of the younger Lannister-Baratheon siblings, Myrcella (Aimée Richardson and then future "First Omen" star Nell Tiger Free) and King Tommen (Callum Wharry and Dean Charles Chapman). Even Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, not Emilia Clarke, in the unaired (and then remade) "Game of Thrones" pilot.

One "Game of Thrones" recasting might have slipped your notice, though, because both successive actors were buried beneath make-up. That recasting would be the Night King, leader of the undead White Walkers. In Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film "Prometheus," a group of astronauts travel to a distant planet, guided there by a series of ancient cave paintings discovered on Earth. It seems that tall, godlike aliens visited Earth many thousands of years ago and left a map that humanity would eventually be able to follow back to their homeworld. It might have taken us several millennia to develop long-range space travel, but we eventually have the wherewithal to follow the map.

Of course, when the astronauts arrive, they find strange, brutal things they can't understand. The tall godlike aliens, which they nickname Engineers, are all dead, having been killed by a menagerie of genetically engineered critters of their own making. Some unusual evidence leads the astronauts to believe the Engineers were preparing to travel to Earth with a cargo of killer monsters, hoping to seed our planet with them and kill us all.

A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and with director Fede Alvarez’s Alien: Romulus now in theatres, we have decided to celebrate by taking a look back at one of the least popular entries in the Alien franchise, the crossover sequel Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (watch it Here). Pretty much from the moment the sci-fi action classic Predator was released in 1987, fans were wondering what it would be like if the alien hunter from that film were to clash with the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Following the misfire of 2019’s “Hellboy” reboot, “The Descent” director Neil Marshall returns to his traditional horror roots with “The Reckoning,” an uneven melodrama about an innocent young widow accused of witchcraft during the Great Plague of London, 1665. Striving to be a rousing tale of female empowerment in the face of brutal patriarchy and religious extremism, “The Reckoning” has some powerful moments but relies too heavily on fantasy sequences to deliver scares, and its credibility is significantly compromised by the heroine consistently emerging from extreme torture sessions with barely a hair out of place or a smudge on her makeup. While Neil Marshall’s 1665 London-set, Great Plague drama The Reckoning has obvious allusions to our own present-day pandemic, Covid-19 wasn’t a factor in its creation being that filming occurred in 2019. The fear and paranoia that surround both eras are palpable, though, and the ways in which our current disease has been politicized beyond the point of human empathy does bear superficial similarity to the ways in which women were persecuted as witches against the backdrop that past sickness. Despite Marshall and co-writers Charlotte Kirk and Edward Evers-Swindell heavily researching the period to create a historically accurate piece depicting this tragedy’s two sides, their script actually resembles a different set of headlines altogether due to the circumstances surrounding the accusations leveled at Grace Haverstock’s (Kirk) lead.

A concept poster (left) and early still were released for the film late last year; now, two more stills are available, showing more of the cast. Director Marshall has talked about the film a few times, since 2019. At The Sun, he talked about actress Charlotte Kirk's challenges working on set: "she's literally being doused in water and tied up to torture devices and persecuted on a daily basis." The Mountain has shattered a world record.

Hafthor Bjornsson, who played Ser Gregor Clegane, better known as The Mountain, on “Game of Thrones,” has a deadlift world record. He lifted 1,104 pounds (501 kilograms) at Thor’s Power Gym in Iceland on Saturday while livestreaming the historic occasion.

The previous deadlifting record was set by fellow strongman Eddie Hall in 2016 for lifting 500 kilograms, becoming the first man to ever do it.

Bjornsson, who is 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 452 pounds, posted a video of the deadlift on his Instagram, letting out a roar after he drops the weight and finishes. He won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 and has earned third place or higher every year since 2012.

The Mountain was played by two actors, Conan Stevens and Ian Whyte, in early appearances on “Game of Thrones,” then Bjornsson took over the role in season 4 until the finale.

Exclusive: Writer-director Neil Marshall has firmed his next action thriller, The Reckoning. He has set Joe Anderson (The Crazies), Steven Waddington (The Imitation Game) and Sean Pertwee (Gotham) to star alongside Charlotte Kirk (Vice).

HBO has released an incredibly cool new behind-the-scenes featurette for the final season of Game of Thrones. The video puts the focus on the impressively awesome makeup effects that are created for the certain characters in the series to life like the White Walkers. It specifically focuses on the prosthetics process.

Prosthetics Designer Barrie Gower dives into the process and explains that most people are unaware of the length of time and the process that goes into creating, building, and applying these prosthetics.

They have a workshop that consists of around 50 people that are working on this aspect of the series, and it’s explained that after they are done applying the makeup, they have to stick around on set to make sure it stays on the actors!

Visual effects firm El Ranchito has released a visual effects breakdown of all of the hard work that went into transforming a desolate northern landscape into an epic battle. Typically, these videos released at the end of each season of "Game of Thrones" focus on minor additions and changes made to enhance scenes a viewer may otherwise not notice. In the case of "Hardhome", so much work went into a single scene, there is more than enough material to dive into. Aside from the obvious addition of hundreds of digital extras being inserted, the video highlights the major impact color correction, background painting, and the splicing of elements filmed separately all have on the scene becoming a cohesive whole. Few minor characters on Game of Thrones have made as much of an impact (sorry) as Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, the villainous Lannister henchman who, in Sunday night's memorable trial by combat, showed exactly why everyone's been whispering his name in fear for four seasons.

Tagline: "When it's red, you're dead." Blood Moon is a film from director Jeremy Wooding and writer Alan Wightman. Wightman developed this feature from a short film, of the same name. Blood Moon is currently in Cannes; here, the film had its World Premiere. Now, a concept poster and several stills are available for this horror, western feature. All of the available promotional material for the film is hosted here. The story begins in Colorado. The year is 1887 and several stagecoach robbers find themselves hounded by a wild beast. Passengers of a nearby stagecoach must also deal with this murderous creature, which only comes out during the blood red moon (to feed)! The film stars George Blagden (After the Dark), Ian Whyte (Prometheus) and Anna Skellern. These actors can be seen in three early stills, which are shown below. Games of Thrones producers have inexplicably replaced Ed Skrein in the role of mysterious mercenary Daario Naharis with Michiel Huisman.

It’s unknown why Skrein will no longer inhabit the role of Daario, but trailers for Game of Thrones Season 4 show Huisman in the part and looking quite different that his predecessor. Skrein, with his devilish smile and long golden hair, played Daario as a flamboyant and passionate man, as well as an impossibly skilled assassin. In shots of the dark, curly-haired Huisman in the part, it looks like Daario is going to be even more toned down than the blue-haired version in the books for the foreseeable future.

This isn’t much of a spoiler, but we might as well label it as so just in case you’re on total lockdown from any information regarding Game of Thrones’ upcoming fourth season. While his role has been known for a while, there are aspects of Haftor Julius Bjornnson’s casting that hint at things to come. You wouldn’t be able to guess what Season 4 has in store for him, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be spoiled to the fact there is something coming that will involve him. So if you can, close your eyes so you don’t see Bjornsson all done up in costume as The Mountain.

The character of Gregor Clegane, known as the Mountain because of his intimidating size, has previously been played by two other actors, Conan Stevens (in Season 1) and Ian Whyte (in Season 2). The Mountain did not appear in 2013's Season 3.

Note: Gregor Clegane is a notoriously awful person and will not likely have such a nice smile in "Game of Thrones."

Not long ago, we got word that the role of Tommen would be taken over by Dean-Charles Chapman for the currently-filming season four of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, but apparently he’s not the only new actor taking over an already-existing character.

Even more recently, we had news that Michael Huisman had joined the cast of season four, but his role was not revealed at the time. However, it’s now being reported that he will be taking over the role of Daario Naharis, a role played by Ed Skrein in season three. This is a rather unusual move given that Skrein was doing a really good job with the part, making everyone speculate on whether it was his desire to leave or the showrunners’ decision to replace him. That being said, I find it hard to believe that the latter would be the reason.

Chilean actor Pedro Pascal ("The Good Wife," "Red Widow") has scored the key role of Prince Oberyn Martell in the upcoming fourth season of HBO's "Game of Thrones".

'Oberyn', aka. The Red Viper, will be one of the first characters in the series from the previously mentioned but so far unseen Dorne peninsula.

The character comes to King's Landing to obtain justice for his sister's murder at the hands of Ser Gregor Clegane (Ian Whyte) several years before during the overthrow the Mad King Aerys Targaryen.

He also becomes an important character in the events surrounding Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) during the season. Pascal marks the first major casting addition for the show's fourth season.

We've made no secret of our love for British anthology series Bloody Cuts. The team is assembling 13 short films to put together into one large project. And all the films have been outstanding. However, with Don't Move the Bloody Cuts team has outdone themselves.

Made in association with Millennium F/X, Don't Move is an amazing short film. The guys at Bloody Cuts have proven time and time again that they can build tension, but they do it better than ever in this picture. You will be absolutely blown away by the effects in this film. It contains a monster that is better quality than almost anything you've seen in feature films in years, and the death scenes are top notch. And by the way, the last death is absolutely stunning. While we Still sit waiting patiently for Fox to announce the official specs for its DVD and Blu-ray release of Prometheus, the studio unveiled a new teaser video for the product. Read on for a taste of what's to come.

Polarizing would be an apt term to describe Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which has an avid detractor for every awed champion for the sci-fi epic. One thing that isn’t up for debate though is that this pseudo Alien prequel asks a great deal of cerebral questions without offering too many answers.

Today, the mystery continues to unravel as thanks to a group of set photos, we have a glimpse at some new characters from the puzzling opening sequence that were cut from the theatrical release.

It was also revealed recently that Scott plans to include 20 to 30 minutes of deleted scenes when Prometheus hits DVD and Blu-Ray later this year. Some of those scenes will only be available as special features while others will be viewable through an extended, director’s cut.

The first scene we get in “Garden of Bones” features a couple of Lannister footsoldiers chuckling at their own low wit, mocking Renly Baratheon’s homosexuality – that is, until Robb’s soldiers sweep in and cut them down in darkness. That’s a sign of things to come: no more time for messing about, ’cause things are starting to get real.

For the first time since the premiere, we’re graced with the presence of King Joffrey, who’s proving to be even more depicable than we may have thought possible. First he points a crossbow at poor Sansa, hoping to make her atone for Robb’s latest victory, then he orders her beaten and stripped; I seem to recall a saying about absolute power that applies here.

The HBO key artwork for the Game of Thrones second season has been revealed. Featuring the 'War Is Coming' tagline for the season, the image includes a scarred hand holding a golden crown, alluding to the family battles ahead for the role of King. Fintan McKeown has joined the cast of HBO's Game of Thrones. The actor will play Amory Lorch in the fantasy drama's second season, according to Winter Is Coming. A landed knight of House Lorch, the character faithfully serves Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance). McKeown has previously appeared in episodes of Merlin, Star Trek: Voyager and Bugs. Ian Whyte, who is 7ft tall, has also reportedly replaced Conan Stevens in the role of Gregor 'The Mountain' Clegane. James Nesbitt (Match Point) and Kate Dickie (Red Road) star in this supernatural horror/thriller debut by television director Colm McCarthy. Set in and around a rough Edinburgh council estate, it concerns a mother and son (Dickie, and newcomer Niall Brunton) who move into a vacant flat on the estate. Fergal meets a beautiful, clever local girl who appreciates his shyness, and they begin an off-beat romance - but what will happen if he gets too close to her? Meanwhile, two men travel from Ireland to Edinburgh and enlist the help of an elderly warlock to track down and kill a mysterious, grotesque creature which has been murdering residents on the estate.

This is the Pure Movies review of Outcast, which was screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Outcast is directed by Colm McCarthy and stars James Nesbitt, Hanna Stanbridge, Ian Whyte, Karen Gillan, Kate Dickie and Nial Bruton. A Scottish feature film set on a housing estate…there’s nothing new here then. Wrong. Outcast is one of those films which sets up your expectations and then completely batters you with something you didn’t expect. Shot on a super low budget and showcasing a wealth of British acting talent; including a sensational debut from Hannah Stanbridge, Outcast is a film just waiting to be discovered.

Colm McCarthy's ("Murphy's Law") Outcast will screen the Edinburgh Film Festival with the first showing June 19th. This is a wee little film from Ireland, which is describing itself as a "dark Irish fantasy thriller" based on the "sidhe," or a supernatural race of faeries (Upcoming). There will be two showings of Outscast at the festival and for those with an interest a synopsis is below along with a second alternate poster for the film.

Irish feature films 'Outcast', 'Foxes' and 'Nothing Personal' have been selected for official screening at the 64th Edinburgh International Film Festival. Three Irish shorts are also included in this year's lineup. 'Outcast', written and directed by Colm McCarthy (Single Handed), receives its UK premiere in the Night Moves strand of the festival. The horror feature is a UK/Ireland co-production is set on an Edinburgh council estate, with scenes filmed on location in Galway, Ireland, during April 2009.
