What’s your favourite Australian film of the last decade?
That’s one of the questions Aacta is putting to the general public over the coming week as voting opens for its new Audience Choice Awards.
In contention for the film award are: Peter Rabbit, Red Dog, The Sapphires, The Great Gatsby, The Water Diviner, The Dressmaker, Lion, Ride Like A Girl and Mad Max: Fury Road.
While many of those nominated correspond to the Academy’s own ‘Best Film’ winners over the past 10 years, there are some notable exclusions – 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, 2018’s Sweet Country and 2019’s The Nightingale.
The Favourite TV Drama of The Decade category sees each broadcaster score two nods – bar Sbs, who were snubbed. They include 10’s Offspring and Neighbours, ABC’s Mystery Road and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Foxtel’s Top of the Lake and Wentworth, Seven’s Molly and Home and Away,...

Word of mouth could not be stronger for The Dressmaker, judging by its superb second weekend takings in Australian cinemas.
However Wayne Hope.s comedy Now Add Honey misfired, perhaps illustrating the gulf in sensibility between TV and cinema.
Jocelyn Moorhouse.s The Dressmaker scored $3.6 million at 289 locations, a drop of just 3 per cent, which hoists its earnings to $8.26 million.
With that kind of stamina, the dramedy based on the Rosalie Han novel, starring Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving, could be headed for $20 million.
The Universal release was a cut above the rest as none of the newcomers made an impression and nationwide receipts dropped by 7 per cent to $9.9 million, according to Rentrak.s estimate.
Ridley Scott.s The Martian advanced to $25.3 million after earning $1.4 million in its sixth orbit (off just 10 per cent), while Steven Spielberg.s Bridge of Spies took $973,000 in its third weekend (down 25 per cent), reaching $5.6 million.

Directing his first feature film, Now Add Honey, Wayne Hope staged a scene in Melbourne on Tuesday in which a character played by his wife Robyn Butler gets so angry she smashes a windscreen.
100 Bloody Acres actor Angus Sampson was on the other side of the windscreen. The glass duly shattered, nobody got hurt and Hope got the shots he wanted.
Asked if anyone was concerned about how his wife would handle the scene, Hope told If, .I wasn.t worried, but other people were.. That.s the kind of easy rapport you would expect between the husband and wife who collaborated on the ABC-tv series The Librarians and Very Small Business.
Butler wrote the screenplay for Now Add Honey, which stars Lucy Fry (who.ll be seen in the upcoming Hollywood film Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters), Portia de Rossi, Hamish Blake, Sampson, Ben Lawson and Lucy Durack.

Here's a key problem with Robert Sarkies' black comedy Two Little Boys: Based on title alone it comes across as something most likely to appeal to either the Disney set or pedophiles. Or both. It is not. Recently nominated for a whopping eleven New Zealand Film Awards, the film stars Bret McKenzie (Flight Of The Conchords) and Hamish Blake (Hamish And Andy) in an adaptation of a novel written by the director's brother, Duncan. And given the presence of McKenzie and Blake it comes as no surprise that things are both funnier and darker than the title implies.Set in Invercargill, New Zealand in the early 1990's, the film follows Nige and his best mate Deano's riotous misadventures as they struggle with their imploding long-term friendship which...

Loving the underdog is what Aussies are all about, and this was proved again last night at the 54th Annual Logies Awards Ceremony held at Crown Palladium in Melbourne.
Despite Carrie Bickmore of Channel 10.s highly successful The Project being the favourite to take out the major gong, the Gold Logie for most popular personality on TV went instead to comedian Hamish Blake of Hamish and Andy.s Gap Year.

Returning to the Sandilands impression Pickering went on: “Governor General: Don’t like you, you’re a woman… anyone noticed...

The Herald Sun has attacked both Google and ninemsn after it accidentally published online that Hamish Blake had won last night’s Gold Logie.
Simon Pristel, editor of The Melbourne based News Limited tabloid, claimed this morning that Google had accessed internal systems to get hold of an “unpublished” story. Google denies this.
Speaking on Triple M’s Melbourne breakfast show, Pristel claimed that Google had been able to search the company’s systems and “found” an unpublished story. Newspapers were given the results under a midnight embargo.
Meanwhile, in an official statement, the Herald Sun claimed that “at no time” was the story on its website.
The comments from the newspaper and Pristel appear to be at odds with a number of screengrabs of the Herald Sun around 90 minutes before the winner announcement.
The screengrab below appears to have been taken at 10.29pm, although it has a publish time within the story of midnight.

Blake Is Toast Of The 2012 Logie Awards
Comedian Hamish Blake's big win at the 2012 Logie Awards was spoiled on Sunday after the news leaked online just hours before the ceremony.
The funnyman was the toast of the Australian TV prizegiving in Melbourne after receiving the evening's highest honour, the Gold Logie, which is presented to the country's most popular personality.
News of his win was posted online before the stars had even walked the red carpet, but Blake was unaware of his triumph, insisting, "Ultimately all that information was kept from me so it was a genuine surprise. I'm glad too because I am not a great actor."
Also receiving major accolades were Ben Rafter's Hugh Sheridan and Offspring's Asher Keddie, who both walked away with Silver Logies for Most Popular Actor and Actress, respectively.
The Slap star Melissa George took home the prize for Outstanding Actress and Rob Carloton of the Paper Giants took home the same award in the male category.
Rapper Flo Rida and singer Seal provided the entertainment for the evening, while Sir Elton John and Delta Goodrem took the stage to pay tribute to music personality Ian 'Molly' Meldrum, who suffered a severe head injury during a fall in December.
The Rocket Man said, "I know I speak for many artists and music lovers around world when I say thank you, there's no one like you," while Goodrem added, "I refer to Molly as the Godfather, he always watches over me and many other artists."
British boy band One Direction closed out the ceremony with a rendition of One Thing.

Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have revealed that they want to film a show in Europe. The Australian comedy duo, who relocated to New York last year for their Gap Year show, said that they would like to film the next series while doing a road trip across Europe. Lee told the Herald Sun that he hoped it would be a journey similar to their 'Caravan of Courage' tour across the Us, but he also revealed that Blake wanted to cross the continent in a Ferrari. "Somehow, I don't think that will happen but we can only ask," he joked. The pair are scheduled to leave for their overseas trip in May. The new show will air on the Nine Network in the build-up to this summer's Olympics, allowing Blake and Lee to broadcast one of their radio shows live from the Games in London. Those crazy New Zealanders, they do love their mullets, quirky comedies and jokes about sheep. Two of the three are very present in this trailer (although there is a shot of a herd of sheep, so something tells me there will be sheep jokes) for Two Little Boys. The movie features Brett Mackenzie from Flight of the Conchords and Hamish Blake. I’ve never heard of him before.

Bret McKenzie has come a very long way -- after proving he was worth his elf salt in "Lord of the Rings," he went onto become one half of the most popular New Zealand folk comedy duo and is up for an Oscar for his catchy tune, "Man or Muppet." He's also the lead in a feature film, but... this one feels a bit off the path of success. In his next project, McKenzie is sporting a mullet and manning the immature comedy "Two Little Boys." Here he and his childhood bff (Hamish Blake) try to correct an initial blunder (killing someone) and end up getting into even more trouble. The film seems like New Zealand's take on "Dumb and Dumber," let's just hope it steers clear of (shudder) "Dumb and Dumberer." Sound off in the comments field below. "Two Little Boys"hits theaters in New Zealand March 15; there is no set American release date.
