Michael McDerman (a.k.a. Michael Ferreira and Carmella Cann) is an American movie and television actor and drag entertainer. He is a native New Yorker, born and raised in SoHo, and has been active in the New York City entertainment scene since 1999. He is fluent in Portuguese and has a Master of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Baruch College.
Michael is also known as his self-created, alter ego Carmella Cann, an American Drag performer within the LGBTQ+ community. He has had appearances on the Ricki Lake Show, Under the Pick Carpet, TV Commercial for the New York Comedy Festival, and a cameo as Carmella Cann on the webinar Viralcom. He hosted the Rhode Island International Film Festival in (2009) and was featured in the book "Straight Talk with Gay Guys" in (2007).
In 2023, Michael launched his podcast "In The Cann With Carmella Cann", a drag-themed political and entertainment talk show. As of April 2024, the podcast touched on topics such as U.S. Border and Abortion and had notable guests such as former New York State Senator Tom Duane.
Michael's acting career has included movies, television, and stage acting. In 2013, he was the theatre director for the Off-Off-Broadway stage play by Jean Bergantini Grillo, That Afternoon at Fred Campballs at Times Square Art Center, in New York City. In 2007, Michael wrote, produced, and starred in It's Me, Matthew! a short film based on his life story. He has had appearance on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Voodoo You Believe, and Casper Andrea's film A Four Letter Word.
