Doctor Who TV movie writer Matthew Jacobs has reunited with Paul McGann for a new Big Finish audio story.
To date, Paul McGann’s total screen time as the Doctor clocks in at under two hours, and the majority of that can be credited to screenwriter Matthew Jacobs, who penned the 1996 TV Movie. Though it’s perhaps not the most beloved piece of Doctor Who media, most fans now acknowledge that it’s an important bridge between the classic series and the glossy sheen and higher production values of the revived show.
The film saw Sylvester McCoy’s Seventh Doctor land in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve 1999, before promptly being gunned down outside the Tardis. He regenerates into Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor, and teams up with Doctor Grace Holloway (Daphne Ashbrook) to fight The Master, who’s taken over the body of a paramedic (Eric Roberts) and...

Paul McGann will take to the stage for a live recording of a Doctor Who audio drama, here are the details.
If there is one Doctor in the history of Doctor Who who deserved a lot more, it’s Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. Appeaeing onscreen only in the 1996 TV Movie, 2013 mini episode Night Of The Doctor and a cameo in 2022’s The Power Of The Doctor – plus a lovely moment in Peter Davison’s glorious 50th anniversary parody The Fiveish Doctors Reboot – The Eighth Doctor really came into his own at Big Finish.
Since the release of Sirens Of Time in 1999, Big Finish has released new audio adventures for every Doctor, even creating their own alternate versions in the Unbound series.
With almost complete free range to create his Doctor from scratch, McGann has proved time and again, in stories like Robert Shearman’s Scherzo and Jim Mortimore’s The Natural History Of Fear,...

Andrew talks us through the best of the Eighth Doctor Audio Adventures from Big Finish. No particular reason...
Contains spoilers for The Night of the Doctor and several Big Finish plays.
Now is a very good time to start investigating the Eighth Doctor stories from Big Finish audio productions. If you don't know why, you should probably look here immediately, and maybe have some coffee.
Mentioned in The Night of the Doctor are the names of the Eighth Doctor's audio companions: Charley Pollard, C'rizz, Lucie Miller, Tamsin Drew and Molly O'Sullivan. The reason this is a big deal is that the Eighth Doctor had previously only appeared in one television story (1996's Doctor Who TV movie), and as a result multiple continuities had opened up across novels, comics and audioplays. The audioplays are still ongoing, and have now been tentatively slotted into the TV continuity.

Big Finish audio story The Light at the End will feature multiple Doctors and a number of old friends...
While details of the BBC's TV plans to mark Doctor Who's 50th anniversary are still largely under wraps, Big Finish has confirmed its audio adventure celebration.
Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann are all set to voice their Doctors in Doctor Who: The Light at the End, a 100-minute story that will see multiple Doctors facing "imminent destruction", to be released in November.
Here's what writer/director Nicholas Briggs had to say:
“We wanted to do a proper, fully-fledged multi-Doctor story for this very special occasion, and it’s wonderful that all the surviving Doctors threw themselves behind the project so enthusiastically. That’s not to say the first three Doctors don’t appear – we wanted to pay homage to...

So the Eighth Doctor. Played by Paul McGann, he came onto our screens in 1996 and then promptly left, something which, in retrospect, was probably a good thing. Oh, McGann was fine, but the movie he was in was…well, “mildly flawed” is being kind. I’ll let some other smart fellow launch into detail on the problems with it.
But from 1996 until the 2005 series, McGann was, in fact, the Doctor. The “current” Doctor books featured his Doctor, as did other spinoff materials. Importantly, these spinoffs included the Big Finish line of Doctor Who audios.
The Eighth Doctor hadn’t been a part of the series when it launched in 1999, but he joined the audio adventures in January of 2001, and since then has gone on to have a great run of excellent stories in the monthly range and in his own separate series of adventures. While almost all of them are four or five star stories,...

The departure of Charley Pollard from the Big Finish audio adventures - she's had the rare opportunity to travel with both the Eighth and Sixth Doctors (affording India Fisher the chance to star alongside both Paul McGann and Colin Baker) - has resulted in a "leaving diary" being made available by Big Finish as an extra to the download of Charley's last story, Blue Forgotten Planet. Blue Forgotten Planet was released at the end of September and the free extra - India Fisher’s...

As I sit here typing this “Baby Come Back” (at least I assume that that is the name) is playing on the radio. Not the best song in the world if I am honest, but it echoes my thoughts on Blue Forgotten Planet. Blue Forgotten Planet is India Fisher’s swansong as companion Charley Pollard and let me tell you, this story makes up for the lack of attention to the Charley situation shown in Paper Cuts in a massive way. The Earth is in a state of emergency after a massive viral...

Big Finish audio companion India Fisher is the co-star with Sixth Doctor Who Colin Baker in the current release Patient Zero and September's Paper Cuts and Blue Forgotten Planet - and after that, Charley Pollard and the Doctor make a parting of ways. It's the end of an era for a companion who brought a new meaning to the term back in 2001 when she first teamed up with Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor in Storm Warning, and we've been luckily enough to get an interview with India which you can read...

Since 2001 India Fisher has been a regular on the Big Finish audios, starring as the young runaway Charley Pollard, who encounters the Eighth Doctor in the first adventure to star Paul McGann, Storm Warning. Since then India has become a favourite with Doctor Who fans, appearing in 28 Eighth Doctor adventures and subsequently – in a superb plot development – a further 8 stories alongside Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor, the last ‘season’ of which is available over the...

Starring Colin Baker as the Doctor and India Fisher as Charley Pollard, Patient Zero marks the beginning of the end for Charley's time as a companion to not one, but two completely different and distant incarnations of the Time Lord. Written by Nicholas Briggs, Patient Zero pits the Doctor and Charley against both Viyrans and Daleks... Finally, the Sixth Doctor challenges Charlotte Pollard to tell him the truth. Who is she really? What is she doing in the Tardis? To discover the answers,...

“It’s the end, but the moment has been prepared for...” Sadly all good things must come to an end, as is always the case with companions to the Doctor, and this months Big Finish release marks the beginning of the end for audio original companion Charley Pollard, played by India Fisher. Patient Zero not only sparks the chain of events leading to Charley’s exit, it also brings us the much-anticipated proper return of the Viyrans – a mysterious race of...
