Ahead of Charli Xcx’s Saturday Night Live hosting debut this weekend, the singer bantered with castmember Marcello Hernández in a new promo.
At one point in the video, Hernández wants to know where his outfit falls on the “brat” scale. “Hi, I’m Charli Xcx and I’ll be the host and musical guest this week on SNL,” Charli initially says before Hernández asks, “Charli, do you like my outfit? Is it brat?”
“There’s a thin line between brat and brong,” she responds. Hernández adds, “Oh, what side am I on?”
“That’s for the nation to decide,” Charli says with a grin.
The promo references the “Brat Summer” phenomenon that took over the Internet earlier this year following the release of the pop star’s sixth studio album Brat in June. As for what “brat” means, the singer previously explained in a TikTok clip, “You’re just...

Well, at least we didn’t get Maya Rudolph singing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.”
It was a tough night at Studio 8H this past Saturday, where a Bill Burr-hosted episode kicked off with some standard political satire, albeit this time focused on appeasing newly elected Donald Trump — a figure they’d spent most of the fall skewering. “Saturday Night Live” is not a show that typically hides its liberal leanings, but in this new, likely fascist era, the cast wanted to make sure Trump knew he had their support and downright adulation. Cast members Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Kenan Thompson, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, Sarah Sherman, and Colin Jost all lined up to pledge their fealty, with James Austin Johnson even unveiling a new interpretation of Trump that sees him as a muscular, Rambo-type figure. In the first post-election episode of Saturday Night Live, the stressed cast members emphasized how they absolutely, definitely, 100% have always supported Donald Trump. And they even gave him a new, “flattering” portrayal on the show. November 9’s cold open started with Bowen Yang, Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, and Kenan Thompson somberly recapping Tuesday’s election results. “Donald Trump, who tried to forcibly overturn the results of the last election, was returned to office by an overwhelming majority,” Gardner said. “This is the same Donald Trump who openly called for vengeance against his political enemies,” Thompson observed. “And now, thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails,” Yang said. “Nothing to protect the people who are brave enough to speak out against him,” added Nwodim. And that’s why the SNL players — joined on stage by cast mates Sarah Sherman and Marcello Hernández — are saying now they’ve been with Trump “all along.

Disney’s not going to be too happy with Saturday Night Live.
The long-running NBC show put the anthropomorphic blue heeler puppy’s father in a lewd position during a Bill Burr-led sketch tonight.
The sketch kicked off with Heidi Gardner as mental health specialist Kate Sullivan, visiting some Boston firefighters with a Rorschach test.
“With all due respect, the only therapy I need is in the bottom of the Guinness class,” Burr’s character Ralphie says.
However, it seems Burr’s character Ralphie sees things the others – played by Emil Wakin, Marcello Hernandez and Andrew Dismukes – don’t. These include Monsters Inc’s Mike Wazowski in a lewd pose wearing wedding lingerie and high heels, and Olaf from Frozen stealing Elsa’s top. “She’s not upset, though, if anything, she’s delighted by the horny game of cat and mouse,” he says.

With Donald Trump, who has threatened revenge against his perceived enemies, set to begin his second term in a matter of months, Saturday Night Live‘s cast members had self-preservation in mind, insisting that they have always had his back.
“We have been with you all along,” Kenan Thompson said, with Marcello Hernandez adding that everyone on stage voted for him as well. Heidi Gardner elaborated that she did so “50 times in Pennsylvania.”
Some cast members, though, were thrown under the bus.
“Mr. Trump, your honor,” Weekend Update co-host Colin Jost said.

The cast of “Saturday Night Live” faked audiences out by praising Donald Trump in the series’ first episode after his election.
In the cold open, cast members somberly discussed Trump’s victory and warned that “now, thanks to the Supreme Court, there are no guardrails.”

“Every single person on this stage voted for you!” added Marcello Hernández.

Is “SNL” new tonight? Yes. NBC’s sketch comedy series returns for Season 50, Episode 6 on Saturday night with host Bill Burr and musical guest Mk.gee. In his “Saturday Night Live” promo video (watch above), Burr and Sarah Sherman struggle with how to spell “Mk.gee,” so the musician walks them through it. Hint: it’s “M” as in “Mk.gee.”
The regular cast members for “SNL” Season 50 are Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Michael Longfellow, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Devon Walker, and Bowen Yang. For this 2024 Presidential Election cycle, former cast member Maya Rudolph returns to portray Vice President Kamala Harris, while former President Donald Trump is once again played by James Austin Johnson.

Bill Burr is an anomaly in the 2024 comedy world. He speaks his mind, and often makes controversial statements about politicians and cancel culture without much in the way of backlash or derision from fans. This makes a bold choice to host Saturday Night Live days after the U.S. election took place.
Burr was never going to shy away from the fraught period of time in which he would be taking the SNL stage, and he decided to address it immediately during his episode promo. Bill Burr is set to take on a post-Election Day episode of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, with a promo released Wednesday for his appearance hyping it up — and teasing the answer to the real cause of death for financier and convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who famously died in prison by suicide and prompted conspiracy theories about if there was something more nefarious behind his death.
The playful promo opens with the stand-up comic making coffee backstage at “SNL” when young cast member Marcello Hernández approaches him. As they begin talking Tuesday’s election, the obviously pre-taped promo obscures any details that might reveal that it wasn’t filmed after the election by covering those parts of the conversation up with loud background noises, starting with someone turning on a blender.

It took a minute, but Ego Nwodim broke out on Saturday Night Live with her Lisa from Temecula bit opposite host Pedro Pascal. The sketch could easily have been cut from the show since it died at dress rehearsal, she told David Spade and Dana Carvey on this week’s Fly on the Wall podcast. But not only did Pascal fight for the sketch’s inclusion in his show, he also demanded changes that made it much funnier.

The sketch killed all week during rehearsals, but two dumb changes were made for the dress rehearsal — especially considering that Lisa’s frantic steak-cutting was the crux of the comedy. First, the prop steak that Nwodim had to cut through was replaced with a T-bone version. “I can’t even pantomime sawing a T-bone steak,” she complained. “I was like, ‘Whose idea was it to put a big bone in the middle?...

Lorne Michaels was wise to book Bill Burr to host the first episode of Saturday Night Live following yesterday’s election. It’s almost like he knew (truck full of geese crashes into an oil refinery) would be the biggest story of the cycle.
Every four years, the pivotal post-election Saturday Night Live episode marks an historic moment in comedy as the industry’s most influential institution gathers its thoughts and delivers a humorous address to the American people during a period of massive change. In 2016, a tearful Kate McKinnon played Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in her full Hillary Clinton get-up. In 2020, Dave Chappelle told the unrealistically optimistic live studio audience, which was presumably full of Joe Biden voters, that the division and the social crises that the country faced both before and during the first Donald Trump administration hadn’t magically disappeared because of his temporary defeat. When filming the sketch to promote this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live,” host Bill Burr and cast member Marcello Hernandez faced a unique problem: How to address the presidential election even though the spot would be shot before the results were known?
Their answer: Sound gags and Jeffrey Epstein jokes.
While discussing the election by the craft services table, Burr and Hernandez keep getting interrupted by increasingly absurd loud noises that drown out what their saying.
Hernandez says, “Dude, I cannot believe that … won” as a crew member makes a smoothie in a nearby blender, perfectly timed to make the winner’s name inaudible.
Burr replies, “Never in a million years — in a million years — did I think that…” as someone runs a vacuum cleaner behind them.
To keep the gag going, Burr then tells Hernandez that he was “in a steam room with Giuliani” who told him...

The Saturday Night Live promos are on a roll this season, with last week’s John Mulaney-meets-Bob Dylan and now a new one featuring this week’s host Bill Burr telling some hard-to-hear secrets.
In the new video, Burr and SNL cast member Marcello Hernández meet at the craft services table to do a little political gossiping about the presidential election, a highly publicized jailhouse death and even a shared interest in some mood-elevating goodies.
The gag: Each time they get to the juicy parts, a loud sound – vacuum cleaner, leaf blower, juice mixer, drill – drowns them out.
“I was randomly in a steam room with Giuliani,” Burr says. “He sits down, hairy, hairy, right? He told me who actually killed Epstein. He said it was…”
Check out Hernández’s response in the video above.

Another famous face from Saturday Night Live’s past stopped by to celebrate the show’s landmark 50th season.
Former cast member Pete Davidson made a cameo on this week’s SNL, joining Andrew Dismukes as customers at the Port Authority Duane Reade run by John Mulaney’s cashier. It turned into one of Mulaney’s signature musical parodies, a la “Diner Lobster,” when Davidson asked if he could buy a jug of milk in the store’s mini fridge. The cashier couldn’t believe he wanted to buy milk from “the fridge that’s hotter from the rest of the store.

This week’s “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live was chock-full of election material ahead of Election Day, featuring hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che trading jokes as well as an appearance by Heidi Gardner parodying country star Reba McEntire as a celebrity evading a political endorsement.
Jost kicked things off with a jab: “Next week the American people will decide if the next president will be Kamala Harris or if everyone on SNL will get audited.”
Then, the segue transitioned to presidential candidate Donald Trump’s various — for lack of a better word — interesting choices at last-minute campaign rallies and media appearances, including parading around with his name on a garbage truck, piling on the fake tanner and appearing to mime giving a blowjob to a microphone stand. At this point, Che addressed Trump’s much-discussed Madison Square Garden rally.

Pete Davidson just made a rare appearance on Saturday Night Live!
The 30-year-old comedian and actor took part in a sketch with good friend John Mulaney, who hosted the show on Saturday night (November 2).
Titled “Port Authority Duane Reade,” the sketch saw a Duane Reade cashier (Mulaney) ringing up two customers, when the cast then started to parody different showtunes and NYC topics.
Keep reading to find out more…
Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim performed a Lion King parody about the milk Pete was buying, Marcello Hernandez and John did a Sound of Music parody about shampoo being locked up, Bowen Yang, who is missing the Sydney premiere of Wicked, sang a tune set to “Master of the House” from Les Misérables, while Chloe Fineman and others poked fun at the Timothee Chalamet look-a-like contest.

Pete Davidson returned to “Saturday Night Live” on Nov. 2 to appear in a rollicking sketch with his good friend and host, John Mulaney.
The sketch zeroed in on a person asking to buy milk from the cashier at the Port Authority Duane Reade, which locals would consider something to avoid. The bit then erupted into a full-cast celebration parodying several showtunes and New York City-centric topics.
The musical numbers began with a “Lion King” parody about the milk from Kenan Thompson and Ego Nwodim; the shampoo being locked up in a “Sound of Music” spoof from Marcello Hernandez and Mulaney; Bowen Yang as a twisted Greyhound bus driver to the tune of “Master of the House” from “Les Miserables”; “All the twinks arriving for the Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest,” fronted by Chloe Fineman’s impression of the actor, singing a version of “Willkommen” from “Cabaret”; mayor Eric Adams’ potentially illegal associations with Turkey,...

Saturday Night Live referenced the current cultural fascination with the Menendez brothers in a cut-for-time skit intended to air during Weekend Update. In the sketch, Marcello Hernandez and Michael Longfellow play two guys dress for Halloween as doctors in scrubs who keep being mistaken for Erik and Lyle Menendez.
“We thought people would see two doctors and start banging pots and pans together for us, like during the pandemic,” Longfellow told Colin Jost.
“Instead, people keep yelling things like, ‘You’re innocent!’ and ‘You’re so hot!'” Hernandez added.

Marcello Hernández and Michael Longfellow were set to visit “Weekend Update” this week, but their bit was cut for time. However, “SNL” shared an unaired version of the desk segment online where they offer last minute Halloween costume suggestions to anyone who needed them — after explaining how their own costumes didn’t exactly hit right. Introduced as “two guys dressed as doctors,” the pair revealed they were repeatedly mistaken for the Menendez brothers.
“We thought people would see two doctors and start banging pots and pans together for us, like during the pandemic,” Longfellow said. Hernández interjected, “Instead, people keep yelling things like, ‘You’re innocent!’ and ‘You’re so hot.'”
The pair were also asked to “kiss each other,” Longfellow continued, referencing the controversial incest angle of Ryan Murphy’s recent “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.”

A cut-for-time Halloween-themed “Weekend Update” sketch on Saturday Night Live was crawling with pop culture references, spoofing everything from the Menendez brothers (the subject of Ryan Murphy’s much-discussed Monsters anthology on Netflix) to The Golden Bachelorette.
In the sketch, co-host Colin Jost introduces Michael Longfellow and Marcello Hernández dressed as two doctors. But instead of being perceived as such by partygoers and passersby, the two are mistaken for Erik and Lyle Menendez, who have long been imprisoned for the 1989 shooting of their parents and could be looking at an early release due to renewed conversations around the siblings’ decades-long abuse at the hands of their father.

Marcello Hernández’s work week starts Monday evening with a pitch meeting in Lorne Michaels’ office and doesn’t end until Sunday morning at 1:02 a.m. after Saturday Night Live wraps.

No blame should be placed on host Jean Smart, who did her best with a slate of rusty writers and cast members coming back to the high-pressure series after summer break. But we're happy to report that "SNL" is back on track with the second episode of the season, with comedian Nate Bargatze returning to host for a second time.
Nate Bargatze's dry, quiet sense of humor is unusual for "SNL," but the writers and cast have figured out how to use his fairly limited sketch comedy range rather magnificently. While Bargatze is often playing characters that are basically some version of himself, the roster of talent at "SNL" is able to craft hilarious sketches around him, whether that means using his unassuming nature for terrific wry comedy, relying on his awkwardness in moments of chaos or confusion around him,...

Saturday Night Live’s Marcello Hernández tapped into nostalgia for Latinos in the U.S. by spoofing Univision’s variety show Sábado Gigante.
English-language speakers in the U.S. have SNL to look forward to every weekend, but Spanish-language speakers had Sábado Gigante. The variety series hosted by Don Francisco entertained Hispanic audiences for almost 30 years, going off the air in 2015 after a 29-year run.
“I thank SNL for bringing back memories of our Sábado Gigante, which was not only a great television program, but was also very important as a meeting point for the family and our Hispanic community,” Don Francisco replied on Instagram. “Thanks to the public, we closed our story almost 10 years ago, but we still feel the affection and respect for what we were able to build together.”
In a second message, Don Francisco added in Spanish, “Special thanks to Marcello Hernández for his acting. Notable.
