The project is the latest of multiple live-action films the actor has recently signed on to, ending the hiatus he took following accusations of sexual misconduct 2018 and 2019. Last month, he booked a leading role in post-World War II drama “Me, You” with Tom Hollander and Daisy Jacob.
Starring Ana Villafañe as Fernandez, “Alina of Cuba” recounts the true story of her exile from Cuba and eventual turn to social advocacy. As previously announced, Mía Maestro will play Natalia “Naty” Revuelta, the Cuban socialite whose affair with Castro resulted in the birth of their daughter.

Roberto San Sebastián’s The Night of the Virgin (aka La noche del virgen) is one of those genre films that, since early on, you know it’ll be all about the execution of its climax. The basic setting goes like this: nerdy young man Nico is visibly the only one of a group of friends who’s not having a blast during a New Year’s Eve party, though his luck changes when older lady Medea (Miriam Martín) puts her eyes on him and eventually invites him over to her house to continue with the celebration. The objective of Nico is to (finally) get laid, yet the creepiness of Medea’s attitude and apartment is evident...

You, my friend, are a 20-something loser. On New Year’s Eve, at a nightclub. You’re flying solo, hoping to find someone to connect with. The ladies won’t even give you the time of day. Hell, even the bartender won’t pay any attention to you. Then you spot a hot lady dancing by herself and you make your move. She, of course, is wasted. She pukes on your shoes and stumbles away. As the clock strikes midnight, you’ve given up and sat at a table in the corner. But then suddenly a beautiful, older woman appears and takes an interest in you. Why You, of all people?? She invites you back to her place! Holy shit!! But then you realize how strange this situation actually is. How nasty her apartment is. How Infested her apartment is. And what is up with that gold statue? But forget all that!

In a cinematic age dominated by tentpoles and “influencers,” it’s refreshing to visit the world of film festivals, where one can still find content that’s authentically transgressive. I’m certain that some fans encountered the madness that is The Night of the Virgin (La Noche de Virgen) at the Fantasia Film Festival this past weekend. Roberto San Sebastián’s visceral, inverted homage to occult thrillers follows in the tradition of low-budget movies that push bodily functions and human behavior to the limit. Does that make it good? It depends on what you’re looking for. Considering the levels to which this film goes, some people would be advised against looking at all.

Don’t mess with a Nepali “cantara” on New Year’s—especially if you’re a virgin. Had young Nico (Javier Bódalo) only been warned, he might have avoided the worst nightmare of his life. While his virginity wasn’t for a lack of trying (or spilled drinks, vomit, and curt rebukes), somehow surviving a night in the home of the first female to ever look at him with desire (Miriam Martín’s Medea) could force him to never want to undress again let alone wish to do so in the vicinity of a woman who might potentially let him. Let’s just say that Nico’s travels to a cesspool of urban filth (Medea’s bathroom rivals Trainspotting) in hopes of being deflowered by someone twice his age don’t quite turn out how he imagined.
