Andrea Marquee is a film, TV and stage actress, producer, singer and songwriter of Brazilian popular music. She started her career with the band Heartbreakers. In 1999, she was part of the original Brazilian cast of the musical RENT, by Jonathan Larson, as the character Mimi. In 2000, she released her first solo album, ZUMBI, which had big success on the World Music charts. In 2002, she participated in Rede Globo's reality show FAMA. By then, she had become one of the most popular performers of a new generation of Brazilian artists. Ably blending traditional references to samba with contemporary electro-pop music, she appealed chiefly to the young but was by no means ignored by older audiences. Her repertoire includes songs by Jorge Ben Jor (Zumbi), Caetano Veloso (A Voz Do Morto), and her own compositions, which include Carmesim, Cantos De Trabalho, Sambadelic and O Que Aconteceu Com Nosso Amor?. Among musicians with whom Marquee has worked are Maurício Tagliari, Luca Raele, Rica Amabis and André Mehmari.
Other stage musicals that she performed on were Hair, Aida, Something Rotten!, Cambaio (with music by Chico Buarque and Edu Lobo), Uma Luz Color de Luar, Vingança - O Musical, The Snow Queen and Girl from Ipanema - The Bossa Nova Musical. In 2012, she acted and sung in the feature film O QUE SE MOVE (The Moving Creatures), directed by Caetano Gotardo, competing for the Best Actress award in the 40th Gramado Film Festival. She was awarded Best Supporting Actress in the X SESI/FIESP Film Award for her performance in the film. She was also part of the acclaimed fantasy film AS BOAS MANEIRAS (Good Manners), by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, and TODOS OS MORTOS (All the Dead Ones), by Caetano Gotardo and Marco Dutra. In 2017, the song O Que Aconteceu Com Nosso Amor?, from the album Zumbi, entered the soundtrack of the soap opera A Lei do Amor, in Rede Globo. In 2020, Andrea launched the series NOTURNOS, a horror musical series in which she is the protagonist, once more under the direction of Caetano Gotardo and Marco Dutra. In 2024, she'll appear in CIDADE; CAMPO, by Juliana Rojas, and ENTERRE SEUS MORTOS, by Marco Dutra.
Since 2020, Andrea Marquee has been producing music for digital platforms with original compositions and musical partnerships, such as the Lo-Fi Ukulele EP series, the Língua EP and the ASSINATURA album; her latest release is the single CELUI QUI TE CRITIQUE.
