We’re not going to offer any kind of defense of Jonah Hill, who, judging from events that played out on social media last year, may be closer to his This Is the End character than any of us thought. But it turns out that we do have to thank the Superbad star for one thing: He saved one of SNL’s most wonderfully bizarre recurring sketches from the editorial wrath of Lorne Michaels.
This week’s episode of The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast concerned the Digital Short “Andy’s Dad,” in which Hill reveals that he’s been secretly dating Andy Samberg’s father (played by SNL head writer Jim Downey).
The podcast also featured a prolonged voicemail from Hill himself, who discussed not only “Andy’s Dad,” but also “Clancy and Jackie” from the same 2008 episode. That sketch found Will Forte and Kristen Wiig playing country singers Clancy T.

Lev Parnas, the former associate of Rudy Giuliani, testified to Congress that he participated in a coordinated effort to accuse President Joe Biden‘s family of corruption. Parnass stated that former President Donald Trump, Giuliani and many GOP politicians and conservative media members helped spread these lies.
Parnas was sentenced in June 2022 for fraud and campaign finance crimes.
On March 21, he gave his testimony at Biden’s impeachment hearing after Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) asked him about when “the campaign to dig up dirt on Biden” turned into “a campaign to spread disinformation and lies about Biden.”
“Shortly after my arrest on October 9, 2019, to now, I have been trying to share the irrefutable truth with you,” Parnas stated. “The American people have been lied to by Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, and various cohorts of individuals in government and media positions. Former President Donald Trump called for the jailing of former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) and the rest of the January 6 Committee for “withholding information” about their investigation into his actions during the U.S. Capitol riot.
Trump made this claim based on a report from an obscure website that disputed the testimony from a former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson.
In June 2022, Hutchinson appeared at the House Committee’s sixth public hearing regarding the Capitol riots.
She testified that Tony Ornato, the White House deputy chief of operations, called her into his office and shared a story that Agent Bobby Engel, head of Trump’s Secret Service detail, reported shared to him moments before.
He told Hutchinson that the former president entered a transport vehicle but was “irate” when told he could not go to the Capitol, saying that he was “the f—ing President”, and had demanded the driver...

Will Forte Says 'Chances Are Slim' For MacGruber Season 2, But Will 'Never Count It Out' [Exclusive]
MacGruber has survived a lot since the character first debuted on "Saturday Night Live" in 2007. The "MacGyver"-like antihero has been blown to bits by exploding bombs countless times, distracted by everything from his grandma-turned-fiance (Betty White) to wild Covid-era conspiracy theories. He lost his wife (Maya Rudolph) seconds after they got married, got out of some tricky situations with the help of a creatively-placed stalk of celery, and faced down villains played by Val Kilmer and Billy Zane, among others.
But it's unclear at this point if MacGruber will survive his greatest foe yet: the increasingly crowded streaming era. /Film's Ethan Anderton interviewed "MacGruber" co-creator and star Will Forte ahead of his role in the Sundance film "Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out." During the conversation, the comedian revealed that the show's fate doesn't look super-promising, but also notes that MacGruber has beat the odds before.

Donald Trump in the final days of his presidency repeatedly threatened to out government sources involved in the Trump-Russia investigation, an anti-Deep State revenge fantasy he still obsesses over to this day, according to two former senior Trump aides and another person familiar with the matter.
One of these sources tells Rolling Stone that in the days after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the then-president, sometimes while brandishing pieces of paper, would loudly complain that none of the identifying facts in the highly sensitive Russia documents should be blacked-out. Trump would insist,...

Donald Trump has identified yet another federal institution he wants to purge of qualified officials and stack with his lackeys: the National Archives.
Since this summer, Trump has told close associates that he wants to gut the nonpartisan historical agency, which the former president believes is full of anti-maga subversives, two sources with knowledge of the matter tell Rolling Stone. Trump has said he plans to make it a priority if he wins a second term, the sources say.

Director Jorma Taccone's "MacGruber" was always destined to become a cult hit. The 2010 action-comedy movie is based on a recurring "Saturday Night Live" sketch in which Will Forte plays special ops agent MacGruber, the son of expert problem-solver Angus MacGyver from the popular 1980s TV show "MacGyver." Far from a chip off the old block, MacGruber is quite incompetent at his job and never fails to blow himself up while trying to disarm deadly explosives.
Taking things a step further, the "MacGruber" movie is a no-holds-barred satire of macho retro action film cliché. MacGruber himself is depicted in the movie as a mullet-ed, rip their throat out first, ask questions later type with a dark backstory whose fiancée was killed by his arch-enemy, Dieter Von Cunth (Val Kilmer). Of course, in one of the film's many Nsfw exchanges, MacGruber reveals his tragic past is, er, much less derivative than it sounds.

The FBI raided Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate looking for classified documents on Aug. 8. The news hasn’t stopped since, with a new development — whether it be a Trump social media meltdown or the release of a new set of search documents — unfolding on what’s seemed like a daily basis. It’s been a little hard to keep up with all that’s transpired this month, not to mention the eight months since the National Archives first hauled 15 boxes of material out of Mar-a-Lago in January. Conservatives have cried that the FBI’s raid of Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Monday was excessive, and that federal authorities could have employed other, less aggressive tactics to get ahold of whatever it was they were looking for. The New York Times reported on Thursday that they did just that, issuing the former president a subpoena this spring that sought documents investigators were concerned Trump failed to turn over earlier this year.

It’s been a long journey for the co-creators of Peacock‘s newest series MacGruber as the titular character transformed from an iconic Saturday Night Live sketch into a cult classic 2010 movie that all led to this 2021 show. But despite the more-than-10-year absence from people’s screens, Jorma Taccone and John Solomon have been busy at work cooking up ideas with Will Forte in an attempt to continue the mighty MacGruber‘s story. “We probably started just involuntarily throwing out ideas of what a sequel could be,” Solomon recalls. “And then Jorma actually wrote a sequel. And then a few years ago we figured out that we weren’t going to be able to make a MacGruber 2 that would be in theaters, so it became a TV series.” (Credit: Jesse Grant/Peacock) “We had an 11-year-old Google document because we do love the character and had been wanting...

Nearly a dozen “Saturday Night Live” sketches, a Super Bowl commercial and a notoriously poor-performing movie later, “MacGruber” returns to screens with a cult following and an action movie-bona fide cast in the new Michael Bay-inspired TV show.
Peacock’s “MacGruber” series finds Will Forte’s hapless hero, known for making “life-saving inventions out of everyday materials,” drawn back into action after choosing to cut his prison sentence short in exchange for taking on a suicide mission. The project reunites “MacGruber” movie stars Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe with Forte, and brings Laurence Fishburne, Billy Zane and Sam Elliott into the “Gruber”-verse. The series also allows “MacGruber” executive producers Jorma Taccone and John Solomon to reinsert one of Forte’s favorite jokes into the “MacGruber” oeuvre.
“John and Jorma and I really work very well together,” Forte tells Variety. “We all love each other. We all respect each other.

If you’ve never seen the 2010 Jorma Taccone film “MacGruber”, consider the Van Scene. It’s a textbook case of misdirect and shock, complete with a giant fireball erupting mere seconds after you even have the chance to see it coming.
Over a decade after the movie became the stuff of comedy legend, the braintrust behind that adaptation has brought the vest-wearing, throat-ripping failsoldier back to TV, the place where he first started in the odd bygone days of January 2007. In its eight Peacock episodes, the “MacGruber” TV show may not have something quite as inspired or surprising as the sight of a charred husk of an SUV smoldering. But it does have MacGruber himself, Will Forte, in all his shrieking-at-the-sky glory. And that’s plenty.
After all, what takes that movie scene’s premise and sends it into the stratosphere is Forte’s reaction. The helpless pleading in the way he says “Tug?...

Much like the character at its center, “MacGruber” has a surprising ability to withstand bombs.
In the late-aughts series of sketches on “Saturday Night Live,” Will Forte’s character, a riff on MacGyver, would inevitably get caught up in his own neuroses while attempting to dismantle an explosive, resulting in detonation before he came back, unscathed, for the next installment. After a 2010 film based on the character flatlined at the box office, MacGruber has been resurrected for a new Peacock series: The boundlessness of the streaming universe, and the need to make use of familiar IP, mean that MacGruber, undaunted, rides again.
This new series reverses certain core qualities of the old “SNL” sketches. What was once charmingly low-fi, with Forte and Kristen Wiig in sets whose silly artificiality was the point, has been enhanced and refined by access to real resources. “MacGruber” now mocks the excesses of ’80s action...

In one episode of Peacock’s new MacGruber series, the titular hero murders a squad of armed mercenaries in incredibly gory fashion. He punches his hand all the way through one opponent’s chest until the man’s heart comes out the other side, and bashes another’s face in over and over with a rock. After it’s clear that all of his enemies have been well and truly killed, MacGruber screams his own name to the sky, hurls the rock away, and returns to punching the one guy...

It’s been more than 10 years since viewers tagged along for MacGruber‘s (Will Forte) last mission, and now the titular character is facing an all-new adventure with Peacock’s forthcoming series. Co-created by Forte, Jorma Taccone, and John Solomon, the show reunites the über patriot with his comrades, Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) who teamed up with him for the 2010 movie chronicling their fight against villain Dieter Von Cunth (played by Val Kilmer). MacGruber started out as a recurring Saturday Night Live sketch that parodied the original MacGyver series and quickly turned into something much bigger. (Credit: John Golden Britt/Peacock) Now, a lot has changed since viewers last saw the trio leading this story, as MacGruber was imprisoned for his over-the-top killing of Cunth in the movie — a retaliation for the villain’s attempt to break up his wedding to Vicki. “He’s...

You can’t have a naked performer use a flamethrower.
This is what MacGruber co-creators Jorma Taccone, John Solomon, and Will Forte were told by the fun-killing higher-ups, in no uncertain terms, when they set out to adapt their popular Saturday Night Live sketch-turned-feature-film into a TV series at Peacock.
“We kept having these meetings where people would be like, ‘You know you can’t do this, right?’” Taccone says. “We were just like, ‘Yeah, but… we’re going to do it.’”
Being told to not do something and then doing it anyway is fitting for both petulant action hero MacGruber (played by Forte) and the unlikely franchise he sweatily birthed. The parody of problem-solving TV icon MacGyver was first conceived as a series of SNL sketches by writers Solomon, Taccone, and cast member Forte back in 2007.

Peacock has revealed MacGruber is set to premiere on Dec. 16 with a first look teaser featuring stars Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, and Billy Zane.
The eight-episode action-comedy is based on Forte’s recurring MacGyver parody sketch on Saturday Night Live and its 2010 cult movie offshoot.
Co-written and executive produced by Forte, the series picks up after the titular character (Forte) was rotting in prison for over a decade and is finally free. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth (Zane). With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber must reassemble his old team, of Vicki St. Elmo (Wiig) and Dixon Piper (Phillippe) to defeat the forces of evil.
Zane’s Queeth is one of MacGruber’s mortal enemies. Long thought dead, he has resurfaced to carry out a heinous plot to destroy the world and, in the process, claim his revenge against MacGruber.

During the height of the Hellenistic period, poets and travelers wrote of the Seven Wonders of the World, works of human achievement and craft so immense that they astonished all tourists who beheld their gaze. However, it would be thousands of years before the list was completed—for that’s how many millennia passed before Will Forte’s MacGruber walked the earth. Sure, the pyramids are nice and all, but when MacGruber is the Eighth Wonder of the World, who needs the Pyramids and other seven?

Will Forte will revive his bumbling action hero MacGruber for a new series set to premiere on Peacock in 2021.
The show will be adapted from the 2010 MacGruber film, which in turn was spun-off from a series of sketches Forte starred in during his Saturday Night Live tenure. The central bit is that MacGruber — like his semi-namesake, MacGyver — is capable of using quick-thinking and random items around him to get out of any sticky situation. Although in MacGruber’s case, things tend to end in giant explosions more often than great successes.

Peacock’s a friggin’ genius: The new NBCUniversal streaming service has picked up Will Forte’s “MacGruber” to series.
The comedy series is based on Forte’s classic “Saturday Night Live” parody of “MacGyver” — the Richard Dean Anderson one, not the 2016 reboot.
In 2010, Forte, John Solomon and Jorma Taccone adapted the series of “SNL” sketches into a surprisingly good feature film. The movie, which costarred Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer, will exist within the universe of the new sitcom.
The streaming version of “MacGruber,” for which Forte will reprise his title role, gets eight half-hour episodes.

Axios co-founder and CEO Jim VandeHei told employees Monday they can join Black Lives Matter protests, crossing what is usually a stark line stopping journalists from demonstrating or holding public opinions on contentious social issues.
“First, let me say we proudly support and encourage you to exercise your rights to free speech, press, and protest. If you’re arrested or meet harm while exercising these rights, Axios will stand behind you and use the Family Fund to cover your bail or assist with medical bills,” VandeHei said in the email, sent to the news site’s staff of just under 200 and first obtained by the New York Times.
VandeHei told TheWrap Tuesday, “We haven’t changed our policy on demonstrations by reporters. We trust our colleagues to do the right thing, and stand firmly behind them should they decide to exercise their constitutional right to free speech.”

“MacGruber” and Laverne Cox are officially in business with Peacock.
NBCUniversal’s nascent streaming service is developing two comedy series — one based on the character Will Forte originated on “Saturday Night Live” and another starring Cox with the legendary Norman Lear attached to executive produce.
In “MacGruber,” after rotting in prison for over a decade, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (played by Forte) is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past—Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber, Vicki, and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil, only to find that evil may be lurking within.
Forte is a writer and executive producer on the project in addition to starring. Jorma Taccone and John Solomon are also writing and executive producing. Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer, Erin David of Broadway Video will executive produce.

But here we are.
Nunes — who serves a conservative district in California’s Central Valley — is one of President Trump’s most ardent defenders in Congress, and he used his position during the committee’s open hearings to deride the impeachment inquiry as...

Many conservative and right-wing media outlets covered the first day of the impeachment hearings by characterizing the process as a sham, a bust or boring.
But one pundit’s comment stood out: It came from Joe diGenova, who has been featured as a commentator on Fox News and Fox Business.
In an appearance with Lou Dobbs, diGenova said “there’s no doubt that George Soros controls a very large part of the career foreign service of the United States State Department. He also controls the activities of FBI agents overseas who work for NGOs — work with NGOs. That was very evident in Ukraine.” He also said that Soros “wants to run Ukraine and he’s doing everything he can to use every lever of the United States government to make that happen, for business interests, not for good government business.”
The comment was condemned by the CEO of the Anti Defamation League,...

If you read the whistleblower’s complaint on President Trump’s Ukrainian scandal, you could be forgiven for believing Yuriy Lutsenko is a genius.
The complaint singles out the now-former top Ukrainian prosecutor for statements he made that seeded the conspiracy theory about Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden — namely, that the former vice president used his office to shield Hunter and the Ukrainian energy company he worked for, Burisma Holdings, from a corruption investigation.
After a string of meetings and conversations with President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani...

Watching the viral buzz surrounding Netflix’s hilarious new series “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson” spread to every corner of the internet was a delight. Released April 23, the sketch show headlined by the aforementioned “Saturday Night Live” writer slowly picked up speed on Twitter, with users chattering about how Bart Harvey Jarvis is a terrible baby and how Paul has no good car ideas, mystifying anyone not wise to the delightfully bizarro mind of Robinson.
The central theme of each sketch appearing in the six episodes of the show’s first season — Netflix picked up “Itysl” for a second season on June 19 — is that each one is too much. They’re each too loud, too obnoxious, too extreme, too uncomfortable, and ultimately, way too funny. But Robinson isn’t an idiot. He understands that comedy is a delicate balance and to walk that line, you need to know when to pull back.
