On the first anniversary of Annie Wersching’s far-too-soon passing, the actress’ family shared a beautiful tribute on Instagram.

"Star Trek: Picard" shares more than a little DNA with "12 Monkeys." In its third season, the recently ended "Trek" sequel series was captained by showrunner Terry Matalas, who co-created the wild Syfy Channel adaptation of Terry Gilliam's also-wild film. When Amazon greenlit a series based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling series of Harry Bosch novels, there was one detail everyone involved knew they had to get right. The show’s success hinged on finding the right actor to play LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.

Luckily, the Bosch creators struck gold with Titus Welliver, who’s embodied the gruff detective over nine seasons of Prime Video’s Bosch and its Amazon Freevee spinoff, Bosch: Legacy. But the casting process wasn’t easy, as Connelly recently recalled.

Richard Roundtree, who played the iconic lead character in the 1971 movie Shaft and its sequels, has died at the age of 81. The actor passed away on Tuesday “after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer with his family at his bedside,” per our sister site Deadline.

“Artists & Representatives Agency mourns the loss of our friend and client Richard Roundtree,” the actor’s agency said in a statement. “His trailblazing career changed the face of entertainment around the globe and his enduring legacy will be felt for generations to come. Our hearts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Elizabeth Hoffman, the actress who portrayed Beatrice “Bea” Reed Ventnor in NBC’s ’90s family drama Sisters, died of natural causes at her home in Malibu, Calif. on Aug. 21. She was 97 years old.

The news was confirmed by Hoffman’s son Chris to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gone but not forgotten. In its season 2 premiere, Amazon Freevee’s Bosch: Legacy paid tribute to two original Bosch cast members who died earlier this year: Lance Reddick and Annie Wersching.

Reddick and Wersching both appeared in Prime Video’s Bosch, which ran for seven seasons from 2014 to 2021 and is based on a series of books by Michael Connelly. The Bosch: Legacy Season 2 opener, “The Lady Vanishes,” begins with a title card acknowledging the death of both actors. “In Loving Memory of Our Friends Annie Wersching and Lance Reddick,” it reads.

Wersching had a main role as LAPD officer Julia Brasher in Bosch Season 1 and returned in later seasons as a recurring guest star. She died on Jan. 29 at age 45 after a battle with cancer, according to NPR.

The show paid tribute to the two original series alums in the Bosch spinoff’s Season 2 opening with a title card dedication that read “In Loving Memory of Our Friends Annie Wersching and Lance Reddick.” Both died earlier this year.

Wersching portrayed Officer Julia Brasher as a series regular in Season 1 of Bosch and continued as a recurring guest star in seasons 2 and 7. She died of cancer in January at the age of 45. The Borg Queen is back, baby. According to the "Star Trek" timeline, the all-assimilating villains have spent a suspiciously quiet decade off-screen, but it turns out they weren't gone; they were just evolving. The latest episode of "Star Trek: Picard" gave us the answer to Jack Crusher's (Ed Speleers) origin with a Deanna-delivered info-dump about the Borg's return. It turns out, the aliens didn't just turn Jack into a locator beacon thanks to some Borgy remnants in his genetics, but they also figured out how to assimilate people via transporter.

This explains a lot of what's been happening this season, from the faulty transporters to Jack's visions. The young man has also been hearing a voice in his head, and that turns out to be none other than the woman in charge herself, the Borg Queen.

The Rookie writers have never shied away from putting the ABC show’s characters in significant danger. And it looks like the upcoming finale of The Rookie Season 5 will feature one main cast member’s life on the line. But only time will tell if they survive to see another season.

All of Earth's enemies had been wiped out by the planet's military, and humanity was on the verge of killing the very last Borg. To address the problem, Picard and his friends have to travel back in time to the year 2024 to discover how everything went sour. But to make the complex calculations required for time travel, Picard had to kidnap the Borg Queen (Annie Wersching), a malevolent half-machine super genius, and wire her into a ship's engines.

Reddick died suddenly at home of natural causes, his publicist told the AP. In addition to portraying Chief Irving on Bosch, the Baltimore-born actor had memorable roles in The Wire, the John Wick movies, One Night in Miami…, Fringe, American Horror Story: Coven, and Oz. He was set to star as Zeus in the upcoming Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians and portrayed Commander Zavala in the Destiny video game series.

When the Borg first appeared in "Q Who", an episode of the second season of "Star Trek: The Next Generation," they instantly became a tantalizing and threatening antagonist throughout Trek's galaxy. At the end of the show's third season, the Borg returned and assimilated Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) into their collective in "The Best of Both Worlds", often hailed as one of the best episodes of the series. To that point, the Borg remained threatening, cold, unthinking, awesome villains. 

In the 1996 feature film "Star Trek: First Contact," however, the Borg were ... altered. They became animal, malevolent, and sweaty. Additionally, they now had a queen (played by Alice Krige) who expressed emotions, and -- most frustratingly -- could be negotiated with. Troy Baker knew that stepping onto the set of the HBO adaptation of “The Last of Us” would be an interesting experience. But he didn’t expect it to feel so uniquely “wonderful.”

The actor played Joel in The Last of Us video game franchise, a role that required much more than mere voice acting. Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.

ABC‘s The Rookie is slowly approaching the end of season 5 — episode 16 airs tonight, Feb. 21, and the season will have, in total, 22 episodes. So with only seven more episodes left in the season, we’re wondering what will happen before the finale. And we couldn’t help but notice that two characters have been notably missing from The Rookie in recent episodes, even though an event is coming up that they shouldn’t miss.

Since Henry and Abigail are just recurring stars on the show, it’s not unusual that they are Mia from recent episodes.

Annie Wersching was an extremely prolific actor, appearing in dozens of hit shows over her career. Her most famous role, however, was for a video game. Wersching played Tess in the popular video game The Last of Us, which is now a successful HBO show. A lot is known about her career, but many don’t know anything about her personal life, including her husband and children.

Wersching married actor and comedian Stephen Full in 2009 in a ceremony at their Los Angeles home. The actor also voiced the titular dog, Stan, in Disney’s Dog with a Blog.

The couple shared three sons — Freddie, 12; Ozzie, 9; and Archie, 4. All three children were born in Los Angeles.

Deadline reported the news of the potential Bosch spinoff series. Actor Jamie Hector, who played Jerry Edgar in Prime Video’s original Bosch series and made a cameo in Amazon Freevee’s Bosch: Legacy is reportedly in talks to reprise his role for the in-development show. A tweet from the actor also suggested he was likely to return.

Deadline first reported the news of The Rookie star Annie Wersching’s death on Sunday, Jan. 29. She was 45 years old. According to the actor’s publicist, Wersching died of cancer after being diagnosed in 2020. Despite her illness, Wersching continued to appear in shows such as The Rookie and Star Trek: Picard.

The actor also had prominent roles in 24, Castle, Bosch, Extant, The Vampire Diaries, Timeless, and Marvel’s Runaways.

Wersching appeared in the penultimate season of The Vampire Diaries as Damon and Stefan's mother, Lily Salvatore.

"I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Annie Wersching," Paul Wesley shared on Twitter.

"She was a wonderful and talented person I was lucky enough to know.

Lisa Loring, who played the original Wednesday Addams on “The Addams Family” from 1964 to 1966, died Saturday. She was 64 years old. She died from complications from a stroke caused by high blood pressure, per media reports.

Comedian Rickey Smiley is in mourning the death of his oldest son, comic Brandon Smiley.

Rickey took to Instagram on Sunday morning to share the tragic news with his followers, explaining in a heartbreaking video, “I just had bad news this morning.”

“I’m on the way to the airport to get to Birmingham. I just want everybody to pray for me, pray for our family,” Rickey said in a video. “My son, Brandon Smiley, has passed away this morning.”

Rickey asked those watching to pray specifically for Brandon’s mother, and his siblings.

“Now I see what my granddaddy went through and why he felt the way he felt,” Rickey said. “My granddaddy went through this s**t with my dad and somehow, here I am going through the same thing my grandparents went through. So just pray for our family.”
