ABOUT
Since his graduation from the Icelandic Academy of the Arts in 2006, Stefán Hallur has worked as an actor, director, dramaturg and teacher with professional international and local representation in theater, film and television including the National Theater of Iceland, Reykjavík City Theater, Vesturport, Vér Morðingjar, Sokkabandið, Aldrei Óstelandi, Lab Loki, ART (USA), CDN Orléans (FRA), Blueeyes Productions, Sagafilm, Pegasus Productions, ZikZak Filmworks, Mystery Island, RÚV, ZDF (GER) and ARD (GER) to name a few.
He was tenured at the National Theater of Iceland as an actor from 2006-2020 and on the faculty staff of the drama department of the Icelandic University of the Arts from 2006-2017 focusing on dramaturgical analysis and scenework.
THEATER / ACTOR He has portrayed a variety of main roles at the National Theater of Iceland such as Edward in KING LEAR, Lövborg in HEDDA GABLER, Macbeth in MACBETH, Dionysos in THE BACCHAE, Hans in Sofi Oksanen's PURGE, Fjalla- Eyvindur in FJALLA-EYVINDUR and The Master in THE MASTER AND MARGARITA.
Other roles include portraying Jeff Skilling in Reykjavík City Theaters production of ENRON in 2010 and also starring in various independent productions, both Icelandic and international including Vesturports WOYZECK, Sokkabandiðs HÉR OG NÚ in Finland and Germany and CDN Orléans (FRA) production of JULIUS CAESAR, in collaboration with ART (USA) in France and Colombia from 2010-2012. He starred in Vesturports production of BASTARDS at Reykjavík City Theater in 2012 and THE DEEP, a one-man show in English in 2013 at Harpa Music Hall.
TV & FILM / ACTOR Stefán Hallur has been featured in several foreign and domestic TV series and sitcoms. SENSE8 for Netflix (USA), HERZEN AUF EIS and WEGENER PROJECT for ZDF (GER) and THE SOLVEIG KARLDOTTIR MYSTERIES for ARD (GER). Icelandic credits include PRESSA and RÉTTUR 2 for which he recieved a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Icelandic Film&TV Awards in 2010. He was the lead in RÚV's FLATEY ENIGMA in 2018 and featured in BROT in 2019. Feature films include JÓHANNES, ROKLAND, DESEMBER and DJÚPIÐ. For the latter two Stefán Hallur received nominations for Best Supporting Actor at the Icelandic Film&TV Awards in 2008 and 2012.
AWARDS / NOMINATIONS / ACTOR Stefán Hallur received a nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2014 at the Icelandic Theater Awards for LÚKAS at the National Theater. The same year he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for THE CRUCIBLE at the National Theater. He was also nominated in 2016 for Best actor in a supporting Role for UM ÞAÐ BIL at the National Theater and for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2017 for the one-man play I'D RATHER GOYA KEPT ME FROM MY SLEEP THAN SOME OTHER ARSEHOLE at the National Theater in association with his own independent theater group ST/Una. He won Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2017 for the National Theater of Icelands production of GOTT FÓLK and won Best Supporting Role for CONSENT at the National Theater in 2019.
THEATER / DIRECTOR / AWARDS / NOMINATIONS Directing and producer credits of Stefán Hallur between 2008 -2013 include, in association with the National Theater of Iceland, The Ministry of Education and The Association of Independent Theaters, PENETRATOR and THE CENSOR by Anthony Neilson, THE UGLY ONE by Marius Von Mayenburg, MACBETH by William Shakespeare and AFTER THE END by Dennis Kelly. His own adaptation of Saint-Exuperys LE PETIT PRINCE at the National Theater in 2014 received critical acclaim in Iceland. Stefán Hallur directed and co-wrote ÞITT EIGIÐ LEIKRIT/YOUR OWN PLAY VOL1 & 2 for the National Theater of Iceland. A two-year project based on two interactive plays for children and young adults where the audience decides the outcome. Both plays received nominations for Best Childrens Play at the Icelandic Theater Awards in 2019 and 2020. His latest project is KJARVAL, a childrens play, directed and written by Stefán Hallur about Icelands most famous painter for the Reykjavík City Theater. Premiered in september 2021 and is still running.
RADIO / DIRECTOR / AWARDS / NOMINATIONS Stefán Hallur directed LIFUN a 4 -part series radio play at the National Broadcasting Corporation (RÚV) in 2016 for which he won Best Radio Play at the Icelandic Theater Awards in 2017. He also received a nomination for 48 by Jón Atli Jónasson, produced by RÚV, which also received a nomination for Best Radio Play in 2018.
