Dag Hammarskjöld, the second Secretary-General of the United Nations and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, died in 1961. But questions surrounding his tragic passing in a plane crash, and his sexuality, refuse to die down.
“We know who he is, but we don’t know that much about him,” says director Per Fly, now bringing “Hammarskjöld – Fight for Peace” to the International Film Festival Rotterdam. His journals “Markings,” published posthumously, provided a way in.
“There he was, this powerful man, and yet his writings deal with loneliness and sacrifice. There was a fragile poet inside of a politician.”
With Beta Cinema on board, the film was produced by Patrick Ryborn for Unlimited Stories. Variety premieres the trailer here.
According to Fly, Hammarskjöld was also a man who couldn’t afford to love.

Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt is the star of “Hammarskjöld,” Per Fly’s Cold War-set political thriller, which Beta Cinema will launch at the European Film Market.
Persbrandt will play the lead role in the English-language film as Dag Hammarskjöld, the former Secretary-General of the United Nations who died in a mysterious plane crash in 1961.
Hammarskjöld, whom John F. Kennedy called “the greatest statesman of our century,” was a Nobel Prize winner who fought to end colonization.
Produced by Beta Nordic Studios’ Swedish banner Unlimited Stories, the story opens at the peak of the Cold War in 1961 at the Un headquarters in New York City. The charismatic diplomat and economist Dag Hammarskjöld has reached the pinnacle of his power, serving as Secretary General of the United Nations in his seventh year.

An English home-invasion thriller of sorts that goes off the rails early and hard, “Caught” is quasi-horror, or science-fiction, though it’s too pretentiously ambiguous about what’s really going on for one to be quite sure. Nonetheless, Jamie Patterson’s film is almost an instant camp classic for its ridiculous villains and poker-faced silliness, the major caveat being that it’s so damn yakkety. Despite mysteriously having won a critic’s prize at Fantasporto, this is likely to enthrall very few Stateside genre fans in its simultaneous Cinedigm release to theaters, on-demand and digital HD on March 30.
Writer Julie (Mickey Sumner) and photographer Andrew Costello (Ruben Crow) are married journalists struggling to make ends meet in 1972 West Sussex, in the south of England, though they live in a very nice country home inherited from her parents. They’re thinking through their next professional move — a proposed exposé of apparent nearby covert military operations,...

Tagline: "Terror Has Arrived." Caught is a psychological thriller. From director Jamie Patterson (Fractured, 2016) and set to be released by Cinedigm Entertainment, this title will show in theatres and on Digital, in just a few days. The story follows a journalist couple, whose home is invaded by a strange man and woman. A bizarre interview leads to murder. But why? Caught stars: Mickey Sumner (End of the Tour), April Pearson (Skins), Cian Barry (Nina Forever), Ruben Crow and David Mounfield. A preview of the film's upcoming Digital launch is hosted here. The trailer for Caught is a good one. It shows two characters descending from a remote hill. They enter a home, only to ask strange and inappropriate questions. Once the murder begins, there may be no way to get these killers out of the home. Caught is slated to show in a few theatres, through Cinedigm. On March 30th,...

I've got a great and creepy trailer here for an alien horror thriller called Caught that I think some of you might enjoy. The movie has a fun vibe to it as it was inspired by the films of the 70s. According to the director Jamie Patterson, he wanted "a gritty, raw feel to the story because there’s nothing glossy about horror. This is my idea of alien art house.” It definitely looks like an entetaing throwback flick.
The movie was filmed in East Sussex, UK where aliens were sighted in 1967. “While on an afternoon walk with their children, two small town reporters notice the military camped on a hilltop. Debating the possible significance of this activity, they answer their door when two unusual strangers come knocking and find themselves held hostage in their own home."
Caught stars Mickey Sumner (Frances Ha, End of the Tour, The Mend), April Pearson (Skins.

"We never said we would leave." Cinedigm has released a trailer for a freaky horror film titled Caught, from director Jamie Patterson. The film about alien visitors was shot in East Sussex, UK where aliens were sighted in 1967. While on an afternoon walk, two small-town reporters notice a military camp going up on a hilltop. Trying to figure out the truth, they answer their door when two unusual strangers come knocking and find themselves held hostage in their own home. Caught stars Mickey Sumner, Cian Barry, April Pearson, Ruben Crow, Dave Mounfield, and Aaron Davis. This feels like a pretty cool throwback to "Twilight Zone", where the aliens look like regular people, though there's something very strange. Check it. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jamie Patterson's Caught, direct from YouTube: A journalist couple invite two strangers into their idyllic village home after noticing strange military activity nearby,...

Nina Forever: Relationships are complicated, and even when you think you’ve moved on past a former lover, you still carry traces of that person’s influence with you for a while. That’s the theme at the heart of Nina Forever, the darkly comedic feature film debut from Ben and Chris Blaine that follows new couple Holly (Abigail Hardingham) and Rob (Cian Barry) as they contend with the return of Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy), Rob’s former girlfriend who was killed during a car accident and decides to pop up during their first time having sex. And that’s only the beginning of the awkwardness that continues to build between the trio throughout Nina Forever.
What I really enjoyed about Nina Forever was the approach that the Blaine Brothers take in tackling their complicated ideas; there are no easy answers here and the way the filmmakers handle topics like obsession,...

Contending with an immobilizing sense of loss is often an isolating and painful experience for many people, particularly as they struggle to overcome the harrowing feelings of being abandoned by those they love. Whether they live in the quiet suburban countryside or in a chaotic city, people often don’t feel as though their self-imposed seclusion would be considered normal, as their emotions don’t get much attention by any part of society. Intensely missing someone who’s no longer in your life, and attempting to forever stay connected to that person you have so longingly loved, intriguingly fuels the emotions of the male protagonist, who’s played by Cian Barry, in the new [ Read More ]

Modern romance in Nina Forever
True love never dies, so they say, and this is something that has charmed romantics and worried horror writers for hundreds of years. It doesn’t deter Holly (Abigail Hardingham), who really fancies Rob (Cian Barry) and figures she can handle the fact that he’s recently bereaved. But dead girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) still wants him for herself and isn’t about to give up easily.
An incisive look at some of the less talked-about aspects of human sexuality, Nina Forever is the first full length feature made for a cinema audience by brothers Chris and Ben Blaine, and it has won them well deserved attention. Fresh off the festival circuit, they agreed to talk to us about the film, enthusiastic about a review they said have given them a real boost early on. They were just glad, Chris tells me, that “somebody got it.

I love a heartwarming, feel-good romance story just as much as the next person, but sometimes, it’s those doomed cinematic relationships that tend to stick with you the most. One of the more interesting ill-fated couples I recently encountered was Rob (Cian Barry) and Holly (Abigail Hardingham) from Nina Forever. The new couple must endure the looming presence of Rob’s ex-girlfriend, Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy), who died recently in a car accident and happens to show up anytime they become intimate.
The pitch-black comedy touches on a lot of the complications that come with modern relationships and all the proverbial baggage we endure as a result of our previous romantic entanglements. It really struck me throughout the story just how well directors Ben and Chris Blaine perfectly explore those themes in Nina Forever, making me realize that some of my very favorite movie love affairs, particularly from the 1980s,...

Rob (Cian Berry) is a grocery store clerk who recently tried to kill himself after not being able to cope with the depression brought on by the sudden, tragic death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy). Holly (Abigail Hardingham) is Rob’s co-worker, who has a morbid fascination with pain and death, so obviously she’s immediately smitten with Rob. This is the perfect pairing, at least for now, since Rob is in desperate need of a romantic connection in his life so he can at least attempt to get over Nina’s death, and Holly needs to be in an edgy relationship after her ex dumped her for being too "vanilla." The sex that bookends their date seems to go spectacularly well. Sparks fly as the two young lovers copulate with abundant mutual attraction and chemistry. Suddenly, the sheets are covered with blood, a pair of gory hands emerges out of the bed,...

This sexy indie fairytale doesn’t overdo the ghoulishness – more Buffy than gory – as it explores the emotional and physical sides of a love affair with a difference
Every young couple thinks their initial intimate encounters are a rebellious and subversive act. For Holly (Abigail Hardingham) and Rob (Cian Barry), they actually have a strong case. When the lights dim and things get hot and heavy, the bloody, broken-boned corpse of Rob’s dead girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy) emerges from the bedsheets to join them in a love triangle from beyond the grave. The punchline: Nina Forever, while it has a few laughs, is not a comedy.
Holly, a 19-year-old studying to become a paramedic, meets Rob, a bit older, at the suburban British supermarket where they work. She’s had his eye on him since she heard he tried to kill himself when Nina died in a car accident.

Read: SXSW Review: Fresh, Original, & Surprisingly Tender Horror 'Nina Forever' Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and that usually means rose-colored decorations, flowers, chocolates and the unoriginal rom-com. But "Nina Forever" isn't your ordinary rom-com. Instead of rosy hues and light, charming dialogue, "Nina Forever" plunges you into the depths of depression and horror, accenting the misery with squishy viscera and an off-kilter atmosphere. The award-winning movie stars Abigail Hardingham and Cian Barry as Holly and Rob, a burgeoning workplace couple beginning to find stability and purpose in their droll lives. Rob has recently lost his ex-girlfriend, Nina, in a tragic motorcycle accident, which leaves him as a shadow of his former self. But Holly is determined to make this new, budding relationship work and goes out of her way to help the troubled young man through his grief. But just as their relationship finds footing, Nina.

In the realm of cockblocks, there’s nothing more intrusive than a vengeful ex-girlfriend who wants to sabotage every future relationship you attempt without her.
Wait, let me rephrase that. In the Realistic realm of cockblocks, that’d be the absolute worst – but Nina Forever doesn’t care to explore our human world. No, according to the Blaine brothers, the absolute Worst cockblock known to man comes in the form of your dead ex-girlfriend who only appears during passionate lovemaking sessions with other woman. This is the lustful tale of Nina Forever, a morbid fable about letting go and moving on – even if the past comes back from the grave.

In two weeks, vampires, cannibals, Halloween frights and more will grace the screen at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois for Bruce Cambell's Horror Film Festival. Now a telekinetic kid and and an apocalypse have joined the killer lineup, as both June and JeruZalem will make their U.S. premieres at the festival.
Press Release: "Chicago, Illinois (August 6, 2015) – The second annual Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival presented by Wizard World, running August 20 – 23 at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois (9701 Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont), is proud to announce the addition of two more films to the already bursting schedule.
June, starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead), tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice), who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. Though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow.

This year’s line-up included 22 World Premieres, 13 International Premieres, and 21 North American Premieres including Marvel’s Ant-Man, the animated Miss Hokusai and the much-anticipated Attack on Titan. With over 130 films screened in 23 days, it’s impossible to see them all. This year, I tried my best to pace myself. Long gone are the days where I would cram in 3 or 4 movies in a day. Maybe I’m getting old and...

Nina Forever
Written and directed by Ben Blaine and Chris Blaine
UK, 2015
The Marquis de Sade wrote, “There is no better way to know death than to link it with some licentious image”. Georges Bataille latched onto this idea, arguing that without death there is no desire. Factors of procreation and beauty play a role in sex, but true desire is rooted in our mortality: we want to fuck because we know we will die. The link between death and desire is at the heart of the Blaine brothers’ debut feature, Nina Forever. After the death of his girlfriend and a failed suicide attempt, Rob (Cian Barry) starts a relationship with his young co-worker, Holly (Abigail Hardingham). But every time they have sex his dead girlfriend, Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy), appears mangled and bloodied in their bed.
At the heart of absurdity is fear. Great horror is often intensely absurd,...

Acclaimed out of SXSW, the beautiful and very twisted horror romance Nina Forever has a full trailer to writhe around with. From directors Ben Blaine & Chris Blaine, Nina Forever is an utterly macabre, and very darkly funny affair about a blooming romance and the very dead girlfriend that comes between. In the film, Rob (Cian Barry)…

With writer/director David Robert Mitchell's Cannes-premiered "It Follows" bringing in over $16 million at the domestic box office on a slim $2 million budget, the theatrical market seems ripe for another arty horror movie hit to arise. So which of this year's festival favorites could follow (no pun intended) in "It Follows'" footsteps? With the close of the 3rd annual Stanley Film Festival on Sunday, below I've pegged six buzzed-about horror titles from this year's three major festivals so far (Sundance, SXSW and Stanley) that could become the next unlikely breakout in theaters. "The Witch" Director: Robert Eggers Cast: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie Synopsis: New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. Screened at: Sundance...

Rob (Cian Berry) is a grocery store clerk who recently tried to kill himself after not being able to cope with the depression brought on by the sudden tragic death of his girlfriend Nina (Fiona O’Shaughnessy). Holly (Abigail Hardingham) is Rob’s co-worker, who has a morbid fascination with pain and death, so obviously she’s immediately smitten with Rob. This is the perfect pairing, at least for now, since Rob is in desperate need of a romantic connection in his life so he can at least attempt to get over Nina’s death, and Holly needs to be in an edgy relationship after her ex dumped her for being too "vanilla." The sex that bookends their date seems to be going spectacularly well. Sparks fly as the two young lovers copulate with abundant mutual attraction and chemistry. Suddenly, the sheets are covered with blood, a pair of gory...

The pull of love and the desire for connection can sometimes blind us to bad decisions, and in "Nina Forever," that's taken to some rather provocative extremes. Directed by Chris and Ben Blaine, and starring Abigail Hardingham, Cian Barry, Fiona O'Shaughnessy, Elizabeth Elvin, and David Troughton, the story follows Holly, who has fallen for the damaged Rob. While a romance blossoms between Holly and Rob, when she first sleeps with him, she discovers she also has to share the bed with the dead Nina, bloody limbs and all. In this scene from the film, you get an understanding of what compels Holly to try and make things work. "Nina Forever" has its World Premiere tonight at SXSW. Watch below. Browse through...

If there was a way to regain their youth what would the old do to claim that prize? RPG aka Real Playing Game looks to answer that in a science fiction style, meaning killing each other in a virtual reality style environment. Is murder worth the extra years on the Earth?
