Shakil Jessa (he/they) is a writer and producer specializing in character-driven stories centering on authentic portrayals of South Asians, Muslims, queer people, and young adults. Shakil's coming-of-age series Love Me Back was developed at WarnerMedia. He also showran the development room for the series in collaboration with both Warner and BreakTheRoom.
His action-heist series Bad Influence is in development with Crawford Filmworks and was selected to be part of the CMPA's American Film Market Delegation. Shakil's directorial-debut rom-com short Imran and Alykhan had its US Premiere at Outfest Fusion and is currently available on CBC Gem.
They also produced the upcoming feature film A Nice Indian Boy with Levantine Films and Wayfarer Studios which had it's World Premiere at SXSW. He is an alumnus of the WarnerMedia Access x Canadian Academy Writers' Program, the Reelworld E20 Program, and the BIPOC TV & Film Showrunner Bootcamp, as well as holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business.
