George A. Romero brought the world the first flesh-eating zombies in the 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead, then followed that up with Dawn of the Dead in 1978 and Day of the Dead in 1985. He was hoping to get another Dead movie made in the ’90s, but wasn’t able to get it into production until the next decade – resulting in the 2005 release Land of the Dead (watch it Here). And with the new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?, we’re digging into the story of the making of Romero’s long-awaited fourth Dead movie. Check it out in the embed above!
Written and directed by Romero, Land of the Dead had the following synopsis: In a world where zombies form the majority of the population, the remaining humans build a feudal society away from the undead. Ruthless Paul Kaufman rules and protects this microcosm but enforces painful class distinctions.

We have some sad news to share today, as it has been confirmed that actor Pedro Miguel Arce has passed away at the much too young age of 46. Arce had over eighty screen acting credits to his name, but may be best known for playing the roles of Pillsbury in George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead and the character Felix in multiple episodes of the Guillermo del Toro series The Strain. It has been said that Arce passed away after “a brief battle with cancer”.
Here’s the message that was posted to Arce’s Instagram account: “It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the loss of our beloved Pedro Miguel Arce this afternoon, December 9. After a brief battle with cancer, Pedro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Thank you for your visits, cards, and support during this difficult time for Pedro and our family.

Stars: Mads Mikkelsen, Vanessa Hudgens, Katheryn Winnick, Fei Ren, Ruby O. Fee, Matt Lucas, Robert Maillet, Anthony Grant, Josh Cruddas, Lovina Yavari, Ayisha Issa, Pedro Miguel Arce, Anastasia Marinina, Martin Zolotarev, Richard Dreyfuss | Written by Jayson Rothwell | Directed by Jonas Åkerlund
Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, Polar is the latest graphic novel adaption in the world of cinema, in particular, to hit Netflix. Starring Mads Mikkelsen as retired assassin Duncan Vizla hunted down by the shady assassin syndicate who once employed his services as a seasoned killer. The result, while enjoyable on occasion with a multitude of outrageous action set pieces is on a whole overabundantly dependable on a repellent colour grading and boorish style with peevish misogyny.
Polar offers a great deal of bloodshed and abstract character yet sadly thinks they’re the highlight of a picture that denies the audience even a minuscule or basic form of personal engagement or depth.

Riot shells... "True Detective" wastes no time resolving the cliffhanger set up at the end of its last episode. That decision, as well as the decision to keep Det. Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) alive at all, set up "Maybe Tomorrow" as a worthy follow up to "Night Finds You" and keeps this season's momentum firing. The opening dream sequence falls squarely in the disorienting category. Velcoro has visions of his father and this scene assuaged any fears I may have had when faced with the possibility of exactly the type of "cop out" we ended up getting. The character of Ray Velcoro and Colin Farrell's performance are an integral part of what gives this story it's vitality and spark. In a television landscape where shows like "Game of Thrones" kill off a main character seemingly every week, the audience could be considered numb to a twist dependent on a major casualty.
