The Atx TV Festival, founded by TV superfans Emily Gipson and Caitlin McFarland and held annually in Austin, is an intimate, enlightening, taco-adjacent celebration of all things small screen. Each year brings an eclectic mix of panels, some focused on individual series (both new and old), some on industry-wide themes, some on minutiae micro-targeted to the kind of person who would attend a four-day festival just about television.

Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond are two very different shows. While both aired in the 1990s and early 2000s, they appeared on different networks and largely appealed to different audiences. Their subject matters were distinct, too. Frasier followed a radio psychologist as he navigated an upper-crust life in Seattle. Everybody Loves Raymond focused on Ray Barone and his extended family in New York. Still, the two shows have an unlikely connection. In fact, Frasier is partly responsible for getting Everybody Loves Raymond off the ground in a roundabout way.

Phil Rosenthal, creator and showrunner of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” has pitched a reunion special for the domestic comedy that starred Ray Romano, Patricia Heaton and Brad Garrett, but so far hasn’t found a home for it — despite the recent success of similar offerings, including the “Friends” gathering on HBO Max.

“Here’s what I really can’t believe,” Rosenthal said. “We can tell stories of the things that have happened to us at home, and then show a clip of the Raymond episode that that became, and I think it will be entertaining and funny, and you’ll get...

Fred Willard was an actor, a comedian, an improv genius and a gentle soul. The performer, who died May 15 of natural causes at the age of 86, was beloved in the creative community because he offered the rarest commodity in showbiz.
“He was a guarantee,” says Phil Rosenthal, creator and showrunner of “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which featured Willard in a recurring role in its later seasons.
“With Fred Willard, when his face popped up in a show or a movie, you suddenly got a little jolt of ‘This is going to be funny,’” Rosenthal says. “There are way more famous comedians who can carry movies, but you can’t always guarantee that they’re going to be funny. Fred was a guarantee.”
Willard was known for playing dimwitted characters and straitlaced, average guys who would say and do unexpectedly outrageous things.

A review of “No Limit,” this week’s Better Things, coming up just as soon as my name is also Olivier…
“No Limit” is bookended by a pair of doctor visits for Sam. You can always count on plenty of plot twists when watching daytime soaps, and that’s also true of the Daytime Emmys, whose 2019 nominations were announced on March 20 live on CBS’s “The Talk.” Check out the full list of nominees here to see who made the cut, and scroll down to find out who didn’t.
These nominations were preceded by the pre-nominations, which were announced in January and included all the actors in each drama category whose work would then be evaluated by blue ribbon panels to decide the nominees and winners. The number-one show in those pre-nominations was “The Young and the Restless,” which had 21 actors cited across seven races. It was shocking then to see that only five of those actors made the final list of nominees.

Happy Friday and weekend, "Bold And The Beautiful" fans. Unfortunately, it's one of those times again where we must inform you guys that your favorite soap opera is taking another break for two whole days this week. I knew something was up when they didn't take Christmas day off. They're totally making up for it to start off New Year's week. That's right, guys. This Monday, December 31, 2018 and Tuesday, January 1, 2019, CBS will not be airing new episodes of The Bold And The Beautiful. Instead, you guys will be served up a dose of reruns. It's unclear which reruns will be shown, but I don't think it really matters because it's a freaking rerun. If you guys do not want to watch reruns of The Bold And The Beautiful, it is certainly highly suggested that you make other plans if you haven't already. It appears that they're taking New Year's Eve...

Happy Wednesday, "Bold And The Beautiful" fans. Today's December 26, 2018 episode featured some very interesting and intense scenes. We finally got to see what has the new guy Reese Buckingham shaking in his boots and why he's really trying to make moves on Taylor. It turns out that Reese owes somebody a whopping $200,000 dollars! That's a lot of money folks, and it's highly apparent that Reese doesn't have it. Reese got seriously threatened by the guy that's been sent to collect on Reese's massive debt. Reese tried to tell him, "You'll get your money," but the guy said it's owed right now. So, that is definitely not a good situation for Reese. Elsewhere, Liam and Hope had some new scenes together. Hope sprung a surprise trip to Catalina Island on Liam. Hope told him, "The flight is already booked, and we're taking off today." Liam was pretty shocked by Hope's surprise,...

A fundraiser featuring an intimate roundtable discussion with first lady Michelle Obama at Phil Rosenthal's Hancock Park home raised nearly $700,000 for the Democratic National Committee Wednesday evening, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. The first lady, kicking off a three-day fundraising tour of California, spent several hours mingling with 200 Democratic donors gathered at the home of the Everybody Loves Raymond creator and his wife, actress Monica Horan. Third try is a big-ticket charm for the First Family and the Democratic National Committee when it comes to getting some Hollywood cash. Paying between $1,000 and $32,4000 a pop, around 200 donors came out this evening for Michelle Obama’s DNC fundraiser at the home of Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal and his wife, actress Monica Horan. As President Obama took to the road today to drum up support for last night’s State of the Union speech, Mrs. Obama made her long awaited trip out West to raise money for the Democrats’ midterm election war chest and to add another voice to that chorus. The First Lady, who earlier pre-recorded an appearance on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show set to air Thursday morning, spoke for about 20 minutes tonight, hitting many of the themes of her husband’s speech before Congress yesterday. In her speech tonight, the First Lady urged the...

Don’t try to get around town on January 29 — that’s the day first lady Michelle Obama has re-scheduled her scrubbed DNC fundraiser at the Hancock Park home of Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal and his wife, actress Monica Horan. This clambake previously had been scheduled for mid-October at same place but got nixed because the government shutdown made it seem icky — Flotus glad-handing Hollywood types who’d forked over $1,250 to $32,400 for the privilege, while many government workers aren’t collecting their paychecks just did not pass the cringe test. Back in October, she’d also pulled the plug on a planned San Francisco fundraiser. Related: First Lady Subs For President Obama At Hollywood Fundraiser President Obama also had to cancel a Hollywood fundraiser, back in September, at home of Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman because of the possibility of military action in Syria — Michelle’s fundraiser originally was skedded in lieu of that event.

We’ve been fortunate lately to find ourselves basking in pop culture goodness—the Emmys, book signings by Molly Ringwald and Allison Arngrim, even jury duty orientation with Judge Lance Ito. But on the Richter scale of legendary celebrity, few create a bigger ripple than Debbie Reynolds. So yesterday was especially good. We were able to see Ms. Reynolds in her one-woman show, Alive and Fabulous, at the El Portal Theatre in Burbank adjacent North Hollywood, California—an opportunity that seems all the richer this morning given the news of Tony Curtis’ death.
Let us start by saying that she was as sparkly and delightful as we had expected. She dazzled in a head-to-toe glittery gold gown (and matching jacket) for the first act. And after intermission, returned in a shimmery blue pantsuit. D’lovely.
And she brought what the audience came to see. A whole lot of song,...
