After making a name for himself as a behind-the-scenes pop songwriter (Camila Cabello, the Weeknd), Toronto-based Mustafa introduced himself as a major voice with 2021’s When Smoke Rises, an EP-length meditation on mourning after the death of his late friend, the rapper Smoke Dawg. In the meantime, the folk-leaning singer has become a rare artist willing to wholeheartedly voice their support for Palestinian liberation amidst Israel’s mass killing of civilians, organizing a series of Gaza benefit concerts featuring artists like Omar Apollo, Clairo, Daniel Caesar and Earl Sweatshirt.

Daniel Craig has finally bid goodbye to his blockbuster James Bond franchise. The actor has branched out to other roles, including playing detective Benoit Blanc in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise. He will be next seen in Luca Guaagnino’s romantic drama Queer, which recently premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.
Among the many racy scenes in the film, Grammy-nominated singer and debutant actor Omar Apollo reportedly had to share intimate scenes with Craig. Though Apollo was nervous about sharing the screen with the former 007, Craig reportedly put him at ease by mentioning that he was terrified every time the camera was on.

Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday, September 9. His adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ novel stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey as the two showcase just how ruinous an addictive, life-altering love can be.
In the film, there’s a graphic sex scene involving Craig and Starkey, where the camera starts on them undressing, then pivots out the window. In “Call Me By Your Name,” Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer begin having sex, only for the camera to gear toward the window and cut to another scene. However, with “Queer,” instead of cutting to another scene, it cuts to Craig and Starkey going at it harder than any sex scene Guadagnino has portrayed.
When we asked Guadagnino if the “Queer” scene was rebuking criticisms of the “Call Me By Your Name” sex scenes, at the TIFF premiere, he told us,...

Omar Apollo is sure to set pulses racing with his big screen debut as he reveals details about his appearance in Luca Guadagnino‘s Queer.
Ahead of the movie’s Venice Film Festival premiere, the Grammy Award nominee revealed the lengths he went to in order to prepare for his intimate scene with Daniel Craig, whom he praised as being a “vulnerable” scene partner.
“I had to get on the soup diet,” he told Interview. “Luca did not tell me to lose weight, but when you’re about to have a sex scene with Daniel Craig, you’re like, ‘Oh, dude, I can’t be looking off.’ I was at 200 pounds, because I’m 6’5.

In a seemingly unlikely pairing, Mk.gee (aka Michael Gordon) has been recruited by Justin Bieber to write and record new music.
The rising indie rocker opened up about hitting the studio with Bieber in a new interview with The New York Times. “He’s searching,” Mk.gee said. “Anything that comes out of his mouth: That’s pop music. You can really do pretty wild stuff behind that, just because it represents something.”

Mk.gee continued by explaining that he’s not necessarily chasing a pop sound, but rather “the promise of pop music” while carving out his own path. “Experimentalism has no meaning unless it’s done on the grandest scale,” he said. “I just don’t want to join somebody else’s citadel. I want to build my own thing, my own castle with my friends, because that’s what needed. And if people want to come,...

On Tuesday night at the Venice Film Festival, just as Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” was beginning to roll its closing credits and the Sala Grande was still dark and applause had only begun started, star Daniel Craig turned in his seat to give director Luca Guadagnino a tight hug. The gesture would foreshadow what was to come mere minutes later, when the above-the-line talent made sure to have just about every creative who worked on the film who was present at its Venice premiere take a trip down the theater stairs — and take in the rapturous cheers from the audience.
Though it was not a standing ovation that broke records — mostly because by the eighth minute past the credits, even costume designer Jonathan Anderson got his own time in the spotlight — it was one of the more exuberant receptions for a film so far at the festival. The Venice Film Festival showered Luca Guadagnino’s Queer with lots of love Tuesday night at the film’s world premiere. In particular, the capacity crowd inside Sala Grande went wild for star Daniel Craig, who broke away from his James Bond persona for a provocative and challenging role opposite Drew Starkey, who also earned cheers from the capacity crowd that included Pedro Almodóvar.
The Spanish auteur, who is also in the Venice competition with his buzzy drama The Room Next Door, was seated across the row from Guadagnino and his cast. He embraced them one by one during the lengthy standing ovation. Craig looked emotional at several points as his wife, Rachel Weisz, was beaming and hollering in unison with the crowd while standing on her feet.

Jenna Ortega weighed in on the trend of remaking iconic films with female leads.
The Wednesday star was doing an interview with MTV along with her Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-star Catherine O’Hara. Host Josh Horowitz asked Ortega’s thoughts on other potential sequels — like would she be interested in starring in a sequel to another one of director Tim Burton’s classics, Edward Scissorhands, which could hypothetically be called Edith Scissorhands with Ortega in the Johnny Depp role?
While Ortega and O’Hara initially found the idea funny, Ortega quickly added, “I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays, I think that’s so special, but we should have our own,” she said. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff — I don’t want to see like ‘Jamie Bond.’ You know? I want to see another badass.”

“Guys, let’s be adults in the room for a second,” Luca Guadagnino said, getting candid at the Venice Film Festival press conference for his new film “Queer.” “There is no way around the fact that nobody would ever know James Bond’s desires, period.”
How did we get there? A journalist posed a question to the film’s star, Daniel Craig, who played 007 in five installments and has since retired the role after “No Time to Die,” about whether there could ever be a gay James Bond. “The important thing is that [James Bond] does his missions properly,” Guadagnino joked over the question, which Craig did not answer. It was asked because, in Guadagnino’s new film, a William S. Burroughs adaptation, Craig plays William Lee, a gay expatriate wandering bars in Mexico City who falls for a discharged Navyman played by “Outer Banks” star Drew Starkey. And in a film...

As an adaptation of “Junkie” author William S. Burroughs’ second novel, “Queer” is about chemical addictions, yes. But it’s even more about being so addicted to a person that, no matter how much you turn yourself inside out trying to get them to love you — charming them with your literary voice, lathering yourself into a stupor on drugs, or even going to the far reaches of a jungle — they will never love you the way you want them to, and even telepathy couldn’t help explain to you why.

Wait, did he really just say that?
He did, and Luca Guadagnino doesn’t care. The director got candid in front of a jam-packed room of journalists Tuesday afternoon — who were lapping up every word — at the press conference of his new film Queer.
The racy movie gets its world premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival early Tuesday evening, with its stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville and Omar Apollo joining the Italian filmmaker to usher in his latest romp.
An American ex-pat in his mid-50s, William is isolated in Mexico City. Addicted to opiates and alcohol, and with a passion for younger men, Starkey’s Eugene Allerton sends William into a tailspin. As Craig’s character gets increasingly infatuated, Eugene agrees to go on a trip with him. It is steamy, of course — it’s Luca Guadagnino after all — and includes a couple of fairly graphic sex scenes.

Drew Starkey said heading to the Adr recording booth for Luca Guadagnino’s Queer was, ahem, a tinge awkward.
Starkey recalled the experience while conversing with co-star Omar Apollo in Interview magazine. Both spoke about having to record Automated Dialogue Replacement during postproduction of Queer, which is Guadagnino’s adaptation of the 1985 novel of the same name by William S. Burroughs. Starkey stars alongside Daniel Craig as the center of a relationship set in 1940s Mexico. In the interview, Apollo said to Starkey, “I know you have some really, really intimate scenes.”
“That Adr is fun,” Starkey said. “It’s always exertion and breaths and groans. Just you in a booth alone doing that, you feel like you’re in an insane asylum.”
Earlier this week, the movie was acquired by A24. At the time of the interview, Starkey told Apollo he had just seen the film for the first time.

Katy Perry’s latest music video, which features her enjoying a beach setting, is under investigation for allegedly being filmed in a restricted area without the necessary permits.
In a press release written in Catalan, the Balearic Islands’ Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that it has initiated an investigation into the production of the “Lifetimes” music video.
The ministry claims that the production company did not secure the required authorization to film at Ses Salines Natural Park, located between Ibiza and Formentera, an area recognized for its sand dunes.
The ministry emphasized that this incident is not considered an environmental crime. Reports from The Guardian and Billboard indicate that the restricted area is marked off with ropes.
Capitol Records’ Response
A spokesperson for Capitol Records, Perry’s music label, provided a statement to USA Today on Wednesday, explaining, “The local video production company assured us that all necessary permits for the video were secured.

With his signature guitar tone, woozy production, and soulful tenor, “Lonely Fight” is a nostalgic and evocative gem. More a meditative ballad than a rousing anthem, Mk.gee would bust out “Lonely Fight” on his previous spring 2024 tour, and the live version quickly became a fan-favorite. Check out the song below.

Being hailed as “the internet’s daddy” can be a pretty big responsibility for Pedro Pascal, especially since his love life isn’t talked about much in the media. The actor, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian, has been linked to a couple of women (and men!), but never confirmed any of the rumors.

One of those speculations was his relationship with fellow Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, which was fueled even more in 2014 after they were spotted together many times outside of the set.
Pedro Pascal Had A Vague Response To Romance Rumors With Lena Headey
Many fans grew hopeful at the time that something was blossoming between Pedro Pascal and Lena Headey because – let’s be honest – they would have been a cute pair. Despite the numerous paparazzi shots, they never confirmed the real deal.

Best Music Video is consistently one of the best categories at the Grammys, often featuring a lot of hidden gems alongside big names like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. This year there’s a great mix of blockbusters, minor hits, and passion picks competing for spots in the lineup.

There are two major mainstream contenders here. The first is Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which has, at this point, outgrown the whole Drake beef to become a moment of its own. The video isn’t necessarily as technically impressive as Lamar’s past nominees, but it is still a great video and Lamar is a field favorite. Throughout his career, he has received five nominations, the most for any performer, and he has won twice, for “Bad Blood” (with Taylor Swift) and “Humble.” If “Not Like Us” wins, it’ll be Lamar’s third victory,...

As a kid, Niko Rubio remembers spending countless days pretending she was a mermaid, relaxing on the sandy beaches of her native L.A. as music by Gwen Stefani, Julieta Venegas, and Nelly Furtado floated in the background. Sometimes, the sounds of the Limón y Sal accordion would be interrupted by the trumpets of the rancheras of Vicente Fernandez when her grandpa would pull up in his Dodge Ram pickup truck to take a slightly sunburnt Rubio home from the shore.

Omar Apollo is set to star in Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” an adaptation of William S. Burroughs’ 1985 semi-autobiographical novel. The upcoming indie film, which was revealed as part the Venice Film Festival Lineup on Tuesday, will also star Daniel Craig as the counterculture author’s alter ego and “Outer Banks” star Drew Starkey.
Set in Mexico City in the 1940s — though the movie is said to be shot in Rome’s refurbished Cinecittà Studios — “Queer” follows the story of Lee (Craig), who lives among American college students and bar owners living off part-time jobs and GI Bill benefits following World War II. The book’s themes touch on sex and drug abuse, with the protagonist becoming infatuated with a younger, discharged American Navy serviceman named Allerton (Starkey). Allerton is a drug user, who, though indifferent to Lee’s advances, eventually relents.

Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” follow-up transports audiences back in time.
Guadagnino’s “Queer,” written by “Challengers” screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes and adapted from William S. Burroughs’ 1985-published novella, stars Daniel Craig as an American expat and war veteran who begins a romance with a younger man (Drew Starkey). The film, as expected, will debut in competition at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, and of today’s surprises was the confirmed casting of pop star Omar Apollo with a top-billed role in the film.

At the midpoint of his second studio album, God Said No, Omar Apollo’s vocals tumble out in Spanish for the first and only time on the record. “Cantando en otro lenguaje pa que no me entiendes,” the Mexican American musician sings over featherlight harmonies and lulling violins on “Empty.” On his 2022 debut, Ivory, Apollo used the language as a nod to his heritage, a reflection of who he is and where he comes from. But here, it’s a shield, translating to: “[I’m] singing in another language so you don’t understand me.
