Brad Alexander(II)
- Visual Effects
- Actor
- Animation Department
As a little kid in Tennessee playing with his first Apple IIc, Bradley
Alexander had no idea that he'd end up working at Skywalker Ranch as a
Visual FX Artist on the Star Wars saga. With a heavy interest in art
and computers, he studied animation soon after taking a four-year
detour after high school in the United States Air Force to feed his
"fascination with supersonic high-tech aircraft."
Alexander landed his first animation job with Up In the Air Productions in Las Vegas creating large video display shows for the world-famous Fremont Street. He continued his computer animation studies in Florida, and eventually submitted his portfolio to Lucasfilm. Before he knew it, he was part of the Animatics team at JAK Films.
Animatics -- also known as pre-visualization -- is a tool to help filmmakers work out highly complex action sequences and visual effect shots without having to use a large team of effects artists.
As the Senior Animatics Visual FX Artist, Alexander is responsible for designing the look, mood, and timing of a shot. Throughout the workday, he is completing a series of tasks including rigging and animating a digital character, texturing and lighting lavish realms, modeling a creature or character, and 2D/3D tracking.
Alexander often begins his day organizing what needs to be done, whether it be creature modeling or animation. Sometimes he is expected to show his progress to Lucas who visits the Animatics office on a daily basis.
"My favorite part of the job is being able to work directly with George on sequences one-on-one and learning his way of making the masterpieces he does," Alexander says. "Learning the aesthetics of filmmaking from him as it is created in real-time is the most incredible thing."
