Born in Murmansk, Alexander Popov grew up in Moscow acting in theater at a young age. He later switched his focus to film directing and photography. He moved to the United States of America to pursue filmmaking education, where he studied under the mentorship of the acclaimed Iranian director Alireza Khatami. Years later, he returned to Russia, but the country's political regime forced him to move abroad once again. Alexander permanently resides in France where he also practices teaching and writing.
