Roman Hageman was born and raised in Groningen, the Netherlands. His parents are both visual artists, so he grew up environment where creativity was encouraged from an early age. At the age of twelve, he turned a school assignment into his first film, and since then, filmmaking has become a constant part of his life.
Roman learns a lot from the people around him and increasingly focuses on social-realist, often darkly comic films in his work. Observing human behavior and interactions is a key driver for his stories.
"For me, film is a mirror of daily life. It exposes who we are and how we interact with each other. My films reveal the small, sometimes uncomfortable truths of life. The intention is to make people think, to touch them, and to encourage them to view the world differently. Ultimately, my goal is to portray human experiences in an honest yet unique way."
