Kung Fu superstar Sammo Hung will deliver a masterclass on May 4 as part of the 12th Singapore Chinese Film Festival. He will also attend a mini-retrospective of his films. Just when the talented Vikrant Massey was becoming typecast as the supportive husband in heroine-centric film he delivers an exceptional performance in an author-backed role as an Ias aspirant from the Chambal Valley who journeys from a failed student to a successful civil servant.

That this moving and inspiring film is based on true facts makes it all the more commendable. Vinod Chopra who has helmed a series of duds in recent years including the anaemic film on Kashmiri Pundits Shikara, directs this heartfelt homage to the never-say-die spirit with an unwavering sincerity.

This is Chopra’s best film in years. It is a motivational film but not swamped by its urge to make a statement. Shot in real locations the actors are well chosen, each furnishing a heft to his or her part without making it look like a favour to human kind.

July 13, 2001 saw the release of the Anubhav Sinha directed musical film Tum Bin, that went onto become a surprise hit of that year. Circa 2016, and we have Anubhav Sinha all set with Tum Bin 2. While the original film starred Priyanshu Chatterjee, Himanshu Malik, Rakesh Vashisth and Sandali Sinha, its sequel will have Aditya Seal, Neha Sharma and Aashim Gulati as the lead stars. Anubhav Sinha, besides being the film's writer and director, will also be seen jointly producing the film with T Series' Bhushan Kumar. Speaking about the film, Anubhav Sinha said that they decided on the said starcast after having seen 1500 screen tests. He added that none of the original cast (Priyanshu Chatterjee, Himanshu Malik, Raqesh Vashisth or Sandali Sinha) would be seen Tum Bin 2. He also clarified that Tum Bin 2 is not a sequel and that they are planning to wrap up by May-end, followed by the film's post-production.

After playing a rough-n-tough guy in most of his films, veteran actor Nana Patekar will now be seen in the Sudhanshu Jha directed film Wedding Anniversary. Actress Mahie Gill will be playing the romantic lead opposite him. Speaking about the film, Sudhanshu Jha said the film's story is about a couple's (played by Priyanshu Chatterjee and Mahie Gill) plan to celebrate their first wedding anniversary in Goa. The story takes a hilarious turn when Mahie arrives in Goa before her husband, and Nana (playing an old eccentric writer) barges into her room late at night. Jha added that, even though there's is no love angle between Nana and Mahie, but, Mahie lands up becoming Nana's inspiration. While the sultry siren Sara Loren played a bartender in Murder 3, she will be seen as a bar dancer in the upcoming film Barkha, although for a brief time.

Says Sara, "Yes my character turns a bar dancer for some time. It's the circumstances that force her to turn a bar dancer. It's the story of a small town lower middle class girl from Himachal Pradesh, who is not that well educated and her family's financial conditions are also not that good. She comes to Mumbai for work; however people try to take advantage of her. She wants to protect her innocence but eventually she lands up in a bar."

Sara adds, "Basically, it's a story about a shy yet confident girl who discovers her journey. The film comes with a message that if you are strong and emotionally stable nobody can shatter you. It's a beautiful sensitive film with good music.

Panaji, August 1: Makers of upcoming Bollywood film "Calapor" will heed super cop Kiran Bedi's advice and speak to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in an effort to get the film declared tax-free.

"Calapor" is arguably one of the most expensive films made by a Goan producer-director duo and stars Rituparna Sengupta, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Raghubir Yadav and Harsh Chhaya.

Shot in a real-setting in two Goa prisons, the film releases Friday.

Speaking to reporters in Panaji Thursday, the film's director Dinesh Bhonsle said: "We have sought time from the chief minister. We are going to request him to make the film tax-free."
