In 1990, Luc Besson's famous action film Nikita hit theaters. The movie about a street criminal turned secret agent was a huge success in France and around the world.
There is an opinion that the director has been doing nothing but making different versions of Nikita all his life, distracted from time to time by purely commercial projects.
The central character of his universe is a female fighter, a cold-blooded killer with a tragic personal history. Viewers saw a similar type in Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, Lucy with Scarlett Johansson in the main role, and Anna – another spy drama that recently got a second life thanks to its popularity on Netflix.
However, when talking about Nikita and its imitators, many forget about the cult series that debuted in 1997 and ran for five seasons – La Femme Nikita. And just recently, Redditors remembered the best spy show of the 1990s.

Back in 2003, veteran James Bond actor Sean Connery portrayed the role of Allan Quatermain in a film called The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The film was a complete disaster as the reviews addressed the film as just terrible and unpleasant to watch… at that time.
With the recent failure of superhero movies, it seems that people are giving the old movies a second chance and this week, it’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Taking to X, people talked about how the movie is actually good compared to modern films!

Sean Connery’s Failed 2003 Movie Is Actually Quite Good?
Starring alongside Peta Wilson, Stuart Townsend, and a plethora of actors, Connery portrayed the role of Qauterman in the 2003 film. Based on the story of an adventurer who is recruited by the government, the film is loosely based on the superhero comics that we adore today.

4K just got a whole lot sharper, as Sony will release Luc Besson’s 1990 action-thriller La Femme Nikita on the format in June, joining other Besson films like 1994’s The Professional and 1997’s The Fifth Element on the format. This release — which comes in a slick steel book — is restored from the original camera negative, with a 4K image that boasts 2160p Ultra High Definition.
Here is Sony’s official writeup for the movie: “From director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) comes the must-see thriller about a vicious street punk turned sexy, sophisticated and lethally dangerous assassin. Starring Anne Parillaud, Jeanne Moreau and Jean Reno, La Femme Nikita is “slick, stylish and tremendously entertaining” (The New York Times)! Rescued from death row by a top-secret agency, Nikita (Anne Parillaud) is slowly transformed from a cop-killing junkie into a cold-blooded bombshell with a license to kill. 20th Century Studios is developing a reboot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for Hulu, Deadline can confirm.
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a fantasy pic released by 20th Century Fox in 2003, based on the comic book series of the same name from writer Alan Moore and artist Kevin O’Neill. Set in an alternate Victorian Age world, it followed a group of famous contemporary fantasy, science fiction, and adventure characters—including Captain Nemo, Dorian Gray and Tom Sawyer—as they teamed up on a secret mission.
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman comics were first introduced in 1999. Stephen Norrington directed the original film adaptation, starring Sean Connery, which was reputed to be the reason he retired from acting—so miserable was his experience on set. James Dale Robinson wrote the script, with Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng and Richard Roxburgh rounding out the cast.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film reboot will be "female-centric", according to one of the project's producers.
John Davis told Collider that the movie will seek to please fans by "making it authentic" and going back to its roots.
He said: "It's female-centric, which I think is interesting. I love female characters, point-of-view characters in action movies. I thought Mad Max was great.
"I think you can always find a fresh way of doing something and going back to the basics. What is it that people love? What is it that made them love the property in the first place?"
It emerged in May that 20th Century Fox was planning to remake Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's comic series of the same name.
Loeg is set in a world populated by characters from literary fiction. Its original lineup included Victorian figures such as Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, Captain Nemo,...

Liberator takes a gritty, realistic approach to the superhero movie, setting the story in the real world as opposed to a fictional city, with the media and political forces of the day very much a factor. In fact, the story eerily echoes current headlines -- Ferrigno’s character is a former government operative turned whistle-blower. It’s a challenging, mature role, and Ferrigno puts in the performance of his life, winning the Best Actor award from Cinerockom Film Festival 2013. In addition, Liberator snagged nine other awards during its festival run, including Best Short Film from Cinerockom and CalShorts, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress (Peta Wilson) from Cinerockom, Award of Excellence from IndieFest and Best Digital Comic Book from New Media Film Festival, along with numerous nominations (including Best Action Short from Action on Film.) The Kickstarter-funded Liberator drew huge buzz during screenings at festivals and comic conventions this year,...

Move over, Sean Connery -- Fox has given a put pilot commitment to "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," a one-hour drama based on the Alan Moore graphic novels of the same name.
The script hails from “Green Lantern” writer Michael Green, who will also serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside 3 Arts' Erwin Stoff. Moore and the comic's original artist, Kevin O’Neill, are not involved with the series, which will focus on an intrepid group of Victorian-age literary characters including Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man and Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, who will team up to fight a common enemy.
Under a put pilot order, Fox is obligated to film and air the show's first episode or pay substantial penalties, which generally means that the series is guaranteed a pick-up from the network. 20th Century Fox TV will produce, and the order is Fox's first high-profile drama sale of the season.

If you listen closely, you can hear Alan Moore screaming into his beard. Sorry, Alan, but Hollywood isn’t done with “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen” just yet. After producing a less-than-stellar movie version in 2003, Fox still hasn’t given up on the extraordinary gentlemen (and one extraordinary woman) of Moore’s “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”. The studio has plans to bring Moore’s league back together again, this time as an ongoing TV series. Or at least, that’s the plan. “Green Lantern’s” Michael Green has already been hired to write the pilot episode, and will stay on as showrunner. He will produce the show for Fox alongside “The Matrix’s” Erwin Stoff. As with the movie version starring Sean Connery, Peta Wilson, and Shane West, the TV series will follow “Victorian-era literary characters, including Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as they...

Bad guys beware. There's a brand-new superhero in town. He's called the Liberator and he's played by Lou Ferrigno, a guy with more than a little experience in the realm of comic book heroes.
Liberator is the story of Ed Migliocetti (Ferrigno), an ex-pro football player who gave up his career to join the military. After being drafted into the "Enhanced Abilities Initiative," Ed was dubbed the Liberator and teamed with a group of fellow "supers" known as Sidewinder, Gaia and Volt. Though he soon found himself doing the government's dirty work — assassinations, regime changes, infrastructure sabotage — Ed followed orders. He was a good soldier.
But when a mission went bad, Ed was set up as the fall guy and sent to prison as a traitor. After a decade behind bars, Ed is released and determined to set the record straight. But his efforts aren't appreciated by those who threw him under the bus.

Stop us when this sounds familiar. The locals shopping in a small town supermarket are terrorized by a madmen...when the market, which happens to be underground, is hit by a tsunami, trapping everyone in side with their captor...and a great white shark or two. Yeah, that last one got ya', didn't it? Actually, Bait isn't the first 'people trapped in a tsunami-flooded building versus shark' movie. That honor belongs to Malibu Shark Attack, which would have gone up three letter grades had it kept its original title, Goblin Shark Attack. While that gem (not really) had the Syfy channel's seal of approval and starred Peta Wilson, Bait is produced by Australian genre regular Russell Mulcahy (Razorback, Resident Evil: Extinction) and stars Sharni Vinson (who is...

Calling all "Bones" fans. Hart Hanson's latest show, "The Finder," a "Bones" spin-off of sorts, didn't get such a warm welcome when it premiered last week (Thursdays, 9 p.m. Est on Fox).
The show follows Walter Sherman (Geoff Stults), a vet with a brain injury that gives him an epic case of one-track-mindedness. His mission? To find things ... all kinds of things, no matter where they are. (Translation: lots of gorgeous locations.) His team? Leo (Michael Clarke Duncan), the heavy, the sidekick and the money man; Willa (Maddie Hasson), the gypsy kid with all sorts of sneaky skills who's been sentenced to work at Walter and Leo's "office," i.e. an old dive bar; and Deputy U.S. Marshal Isabel Zambada (Mercedes Masohn), who calls on the crew from time to time, and has a major flirtation with Walter. Naturally.

Nikita returns Friday with new episodes, and odds are you have heard of this show but never watched an episode. You are not alone. The low ratings (low even for The CW) indicate that few are watching the sophomore spy drama. Why? Well, your television schedule is most likely full, you think a CW show is not for you, or you refuse to watch another remake of Luc Besson's 1990 film, Le Femme Nikita. Yes, Nikita is based off of the film and television series which premiered in 1997, but it marches to the beat of its own drum. It has paved its own path and deserves a chance to be on your television watch list. Here are four reasons why you should watch Nikita:
Impressive fight sequences. Television does not have the luxury film does to spend days choreographing elaborate fight sequences, however the crew on Nikita manages to...

Their stated goal is to uphold the law of the land and put the bad guys behind bars, but every TV fan knows that our favorite small-screen cops, detectives, and agents — as well as their colleagues who semi-officially serve in crime-fighting capacities — have a duty to increase pulses and raise the temperatures of whatever rooms they enter.
We recently wrapped up a 64-player bracket tournament for male law-enforcement types — won by NCIS‘ Tony Dinozzo — and since we’re equal opportunity oglers/romantics, we figured we’d better construct a similar showdown for their female counterparts.

The judgements and recriminations were out in full force this week in Miami, with Delko (Adam Rodriguez) and Ryan (Jonathan Togo) deeming the suspected quarterback to be guilty even before the evidence was in. Yes you've guessed the one time Jesse (Eddie Cibrian) was needed around to be objective. With Delko coming up with the old, "guilty people run" line. So what was that he did back at the end of season 7 in the episode Seeing Red, when he came charging out in the car with his father and was shot at by Calleigh (Emily Procter). How wrong was he here and not so much as an apology or remorse for wrecking someone's life. The scene opens with Ryan and Delko chasing the suspect and Ryan attempting to to follow suit when he jumps the railing and barely hangs on. Ryan almost made it. With flashes of the suspect, Brady...

Lou Ferrigno is gearing up to return to the superhero genre, a genre he’ll always be remembered for as The Hulk in the ABC TV series from the 1980s. The new project is Liberator, a short about a disgraced, washed-up, ex superhero whose secret black ops past catches up with him — just as he’s trying to put his life back together.
The film also co-stars Don “The Dragon” Wilson (Bloodfist), Michael Dorn (Worf, Star Trek: The Next Generation), and Peta Wilson (Lxg). The film is in need of $18, ooo to produce it and fans can help via its Kickstarter page. There’s tons of cool incentives to help also.
Here’s a little more about the project, which sounds neat:
“The truly unique thing about Liberator is that, unlike other superhero flicks out there, it’s based very much in the politics of now. This is a real person in the real world.

I’m not sure what this short film is shaping up to be, but here’s hoping we end up with a full-length feature when all is said and done. The lovely Tara Cardinal was extremely nice enough to send over a poster for the upcoming action flick “Liberator”, a film which will find Lou Ferrigno as the titular, politically-driven hero. And if his name isn’t enough to get you excited, the film also features Michael Dorn, Peta Wilson, Tara Cardinal, Darwin Harris, Don “The Dragon” Wilson, and Edward Asner as the freakin’ President of the United States. What more could you possibly need to know? If you want a quick synopsis, here you go: Liberator is 15-minute presentation pilot about a disgraced, washed-up ex-superhero whose secret black ops past comes back to haunt him as he’s trying to put his life back together. I’m down with it.

Looks can kill—and they do—in Nikita: The Complete First Season, which Warner will release on Blu-ray and DVD on August 30 for the list prices of $69.97 and $59.98, respectively.
Maggie Q strikes a lethal pose as Nikita.
Maggie Q (Mission: Impossible III) stars as Nikita, a charming but deadly undercover agent gone rogue who attempts to bring down the nefarious secret government agency that trained her. She does all this—along with solving a bunch of nasty crimes along the way—over the course of 22 episodes.
Inspired by the 1990 film La Femme Nikita directed by Luc Besson and the subsequent 1997 TV series of the same name starring Peta Wilson, the hard-hitting action-thriller television show also stars Shane West (TV’s ER), Xander Berkeley (Repo Chick), Melinda Clarke (TV’s The O.C.) and Lyndsy Fonseca (Hot Tube Time Machine).

The CW’s upfront news was filled with lots more reality shows and the return of Sarah Michelle Gellar to TV with Ringer. The network aimed at the 18-34 demo is hoping something from this bunch helps fill the hole of Smallville. But first let’s get to what’s coming back and what we can lay to rest.
Renewed
Longtime CW stalwart One Tree Hill is coming back for a ninth season. Also, Bubble show Nikita has been officially renewed for a second season despite losing nearly 30% of its early season audience. Nikita has done well internationally though as the Nikita brand, spinning off of the Luc Besson film, Le Femme Nikita film and the Lfn television show starring Peta Wilson, has given the show an added boost. People want to see more of Maggie Q and Lyndsy Fonseca kicking ass even if they have to suffer through Shane West’s gravely voice.

1. Sydney Bristow - Alias (2001-2006)
Not only is Sydney the ultimate kick ass angel, she’s also a master of disguise (and many of them involved wearing little clothes), and speaks so many different languages that it was difficult to keep count.
Strangely enough, one of the best fights she was ever involved in was with her flatmate Francie’s doppelganger Allison Doren. Poor Francie had been murdered in her own restaurant and replaced by the evil lookalike. When Allison blew her cover by accepting Sydney’s offer of some coffee ice cream – ‘I just remembered…Francie doesn’t like coffee ice cream,’ says Allison, returning with a gun - a bruising encounter ensued.
The pair used everything against one another – their feet and fists, a heavy duty candlestick, glass doors, mirrors, a poker and even a drawer full of cutlery, until Sydney finally fired three shots into her nemesis.

Nick Eversman, Steven Brand, Tracey Fairaway, Jay Gillespie, Sanny Van Heteren, Daniel Buran and Devon Sorvari lead the cast. Unfortunately, the Peta Wilson revealed elsewhere was prematurely announced. What's worth noting is that on the IMDb, actor Jay Gillespie (pictured) is listed as "pseudo Pinhead." As you all know, Doug Bradley - who played Pinhead through eight films - turned down the opportunity to return. Gillespie is clearly much younger, so I wonder how that affects the...

Mega Shark In Malibu
Stars: Peta Wilson, Warren Christie, Chelan Simmons, Sonya Salomaa | Written by Lindsay James | Directed by David Lister
Let’s face it: you already know whether you’re going to like this movie or not from the title alone, right? The Metrodome/Asylum Mega- franchise has garnered itself a fair number of fans over the past few years, with high-brow classics such as Mega Piranha and last year’s super-popular Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus doing the business for Syfy’s viewership by providing an ultra-cheap form of entertainment enjoyed more for its laughable acting and special effects than its stellar writing or innovative filmmaking.
The plot comes straight out of Piranha, with once-thought-extinct ‘goblin sharks’ emerging from cracks left in the ocean floor after a number of earthquakes, resulting in a flash tsunami that covers the west coast of America with high water, including the titular Malibu.

The fall premieres continue to wear on as last night brought the series premiere of the CW's new action-thriller Nikita, starring Maggie Q, Shane West, Lyndsy Fonseca, Xander Berkeley, and Aaron Stanford. While you can read my advance review of Nikita's pilot episode here, I'm curious to know what you thought now that the episode in question has aired. What did you make of Maggie Q as the lead? And of Lyndsy Fonseca as new Division recruit Alex? (And of the pig masks?) Were you a fan of USA's Peta Wilson-led La Femme Nikita and how did it hold up in comparison? Were you surprised by the twist or did you see it--as I did--from a mile or more away? Where do you think the season will head? Did you see any similarities to Alias or Dollhouse? And, most importantly, will you be tuning in again next week?...

The only way that you could have missed the provocative and eye-catching ads for the CW's Nikita, premiering night, is if you are perhaps visually-impaired. The red-hued promotional campaign, featuring series lead Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard) have been ubiquitous of late, popping up on mall food court tables, billboards, and bus sides for months now. The wait, however, is over now. Tonight brings the series premiere of Nikita, the latest in a line of adaptations of Luc Besson's landmark 1990 film La Femme Nikita, which starred Anne Parillaud as the titular character, a government-trained assassin from, uh, humble origins who finds herself transformed into a cold-blooded killer. The film was then adapted into Bridget Fonda vehicle Point of No Return before being resurrected as the Peta Wilson-led USA action series La Femme Nikita and going on to influence ABC's Alias... and now it's been revamped again as CW's high-flying action-thriller Nikita,...

Chicago – There are certain programs that are easy for a critic to defend on the strength of their ensemble, the brilliance of their writing, or other easily identifiable elements that make them “work.” Pointing out that programs like “Mad Men” and “Lost” are above-average is like saying filet mignon tastes good. Duh. But every once in awhile there’s a program that’s a bit harder to defend and yet nearly as easy to enjoy. These are the guilty pleasures of the tube and a new one starts tonight in The CW’s “Nikita.”
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0
Is “Nikita” good? It depends on your definition of the word. On one hand, it will remind you of cheesy action programs that starred B-list actors like Pamela Anderson or Lorenzo Lamas, complete with over-the-top dialogue, two-dimensional characters, and ridiculous plot twists that defy all logic. Update: We learned exclusively that Peta Wilson has been replaced by Devon Sorvari (The Dark, The Realm). According to the ever-so unreliable IMDb Steven Brand (as "Dr. Ross Craven"), Sanny Van Heteren (as "Kate Bradley"), Tracey Fairaway (as "Emma") and Daniel Buran (as "Vagrant") all star in Dimension Films' low budget Hellraiser: Revelations. If the site is correct, Brand landed the lead role of Dr. Craven, a man who is attempting to bring the family back to normal after his son went missing two years ago. He's described as a "good man that has fought hard to keep his family together." Fairaway plays his daughter, Emma, described as "lovely and inquisitive and on the verge of her own womanhood." Filming is already underway here in Los Angeles under the direction of Víctor Garcia (Return to House on Haunted Hill, Mirrors II). FX specialist Gary J. Tunnicliffe penned the screenplay.

Here's a look at some interesting and/or otherwise noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles:
Generation Um -- Keanu Reeves is set to star in this indie feature set in New York's lower east side. Written and directed by Finishing Heaven's Mark Mann, the film is expected to begin filming soon (maybe in your apartment?).
The Girl on the Landing -- Gosford Park scribe Julian Fellowes is serving up another romantic thriller with producer Robert Jones. The film based on Paul Torday's novel centers on young couple whose mundane life is shaken up by the husband's strange hallucinations.
Man Made Man -- David Duchovny and Téa Leoni's have optioned Pagan Kennedy's book that involves, "two sex changes, one love affair, and a twentieth-century medical revolution." The pair don't plan to star in the project, but will produce through their company And Then Productions along with Patina Pictures.
Hellraiser: Revelations -- While the remake of the '80s Clive Barker classic has stalled, Dimension is fast-tracking a straight-to-DVD installment to help keep its fans on pins and needles (and apparently help the studio retain the rights to the franchise). TV's La Femme Nikita star Peta Wilson toplines the project from director Victor Garcia.
