Netflix just dropped the first look at Blonde, and what an uncanny look it is. In this new teaser trailer for the Andrew Dominik-directed film starring Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe, the Hollywood icon is initially depicted as a tearful bundle of nerves, praying that some mysterious “she” won’t abandon her. As her make-up is applied and Monroe transforms into a smiling, radiant star, we realize exactly who she’s has been waiting for.
Dominik wrote and directed Blonde based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates, and the film blends fact and fiction to reimagine the life of the great Hollywood star, exploring the split between Monroe’s public and private selves.
In addition to de Armas, the cast includes Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Caspar Phillipson, Evan Williams, Toby Huss, Julianne Nicholson, Lily Fisher, Sara Paxton, David Warshofsky, Xavier Samuel, Michael Masini, Spencer Garrett, Chris Lemmon,...

As you may or may not know, I’m a huge fan cinema from down under, be it New Zealand or, as in this case, Australia. There’s just something so appealing – to me at least – about how films from that part of the world mix humour and horror to such tremendous effect. There’s nothing quite like an Ozploitation horror comedy: never too horrific, never too funny and oftentimes bordering on the absurd Without ever feeling like it.
An Ideal Host tells the story of Liz and Jackson, a middle-class couple who seemingly want to show their best side an the dinner party they’re hosting – fixating on giving the best presentation of the home, their food and even Jackson’s wedding proposal.

In a pandemic-free alternate reality there’s a chance we may have gotten Andrew Dominik’s long-gestating Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde this year, but Netflix has decided to unveil the film––which stars Ana de Armas in the lead role––in 2021. While we likely won’t be hearing much about it for the rest of the year, an update has now come in from someone close to the production.
Joyce Carol Oates, whose 1999 novel is the basis for Dominik’s script, has revealed on Twitter that she’s screened a cut of the film and shared some high praise. “I have seen the rough cut of Andrew Dominik’s adaptation & it is startling, brilliant, very disturbing & [perhaps most surprisingly] an utterly “feminist” interpretation,” the author said. “[I’m] not sure that any male director has ever achieved anything [like] this.”
While any comments with someone with a vested interest in the project should be taken with a grain of salt,...

This morning I was woken up nearly two hours before my alarm was supposed to go off in such a way that I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep in time to make it worthwhile. It's a special kind of frustrating, realizing that you're up too early without enough sleep but that trying to get back to sleep will only be a pointless and frustrating endeavor that will probably result in you falling back asleep 20 minutes before your alarm goes off which will just make you cranky for the rest of the day. Instead, I got up which will assure that I'm just kind of slow and tired for the rest of the day. Yay for no-win scenarios! Here's your Wednesday night TV:

New York - Fortune on Thursday unveiled its list of the top 40 executives under the age of 40, which is dominated by technology leaders.
Tech heavyweights include venture capitalist and Netscape founder Marc Andreessen in the top spot, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is steady at number two, followed by third-ranked Twitter founders Evan Williams and Biz Stone and Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page who came in fifth after heading up the list last year.
The highest-ranked entertainment executive is News Corp. Europe and Asia boss James Murdoch, even though he is down from last year's third spot. "As the only one of Rupert Murdoch's adult children in an executive role at News Corp., James has built his own identity while remaining close to his father," Fortune argued.
Also high up in the 12th spot is Univision Communications' Cesar Conde, president of Univision Networks, who gained one spot this year.

Twitter unveiled a new Web experience Tuesday that will allow for display of photos and videos in a bid to make the site more accessible and counter competition from third-party Twitter clients.
The San Francisco-based company convened its first-ever press conference at its headquarters to announce the revamped site, which will roll out incrementally worldwide beginning Tuesday to its base of 160 million users.
The company has struck deals with 15 companies, including YouTube, Ustream and Flickr, to get the rights to display their content on the site. Twitter founder Evan Williams noted this will help entice advertisers from movie studios for Promoted Tweets because attachments like trailers will automatically play right on the page.
"We're really excited about monetization with this new design," said Williams. "This makes Twitter better and tweets better."
The redesigned Twitter.com has a second pane where links clicked on the left side of the page open up at the right.
