Director Michael Merino’s upcoming action-thriller “Clutch,” starring Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6), Kaiwi Lyman (Den of Thieves), Augie Duke (Mayans M.C.), Mike Ferguson (Showdown at the Grand), with Michael Pare’ (Streets of Fire) and Vernon Wells (Mad Max 2) has wrapped production and is headed into post.

“Clutch” was partially inspired by true events; writer-producer Michael Merino based the story on a real life car-jacking of a female rideshare-driver who was taken hostage by a criminal on the run from his less-than-law-abiding accomplices, who were involved in a deleterious enterprise that was never solved.

According to the official logline, “Clutch” follows the story of Tonya (Sadie Katz), whose life is in a bit of a shambles and works as a share-driver to make ends-meet, and is under the thumb of her sugar daddy (Michael Pare’). One evening while working Tonya is car-jacked and finds herself in the dark underbelly of the city’s mob.

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa is revving its engine and heading into theaters on May 24, and you probably won’t be surprised to hear that The Asylum has got their own “mockbuster” take on the movie ready to go. The title? Road Wars: Max Fury.

What’s particularly interesting about Road Wars: Max Fury is that Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior star Vernon Wells stars in the film, a rare case where an actor from an original movie appears in the “mockbuster” take on that franchise. Watch the trailer down below.

Mark L. Lester's ultra-violent 1985 actioner "Commando" is entertainingly ridiculous and ridiculously entertaining. Few films of the era reflect on the ultra-violent military fantasies of Reagan's America better than "Commando," an irony to be sure, as it stars a massive Austrian actor. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a former Special Forces Colonel named John Matrix who is attempting to live a quiet life with his sweet daughter Jenny (Alyssa Milano). When Jenny is kidnapped by a vengeful villain played by Dan Hedaya, it gives John the moral license to murder about a thousand people in a violent quest to rescue her. John Matrix shoots, explodes, cuts, stabs, and buzzsaw-frisbees his way through Hedaya's minions without a scratch, a military superman with untouchable skill and an unslaked bloodlust. 

The violence in "Commando" is horrifying and spectacular. Looking over the film's parental advisory on IMDb may sell the film better than any conventional advertisement.

An intensively minced blend of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and an Abdominal Surgery for Beginners DVD, this is a solid genre exercise in gore and retribution. After an ominous abduction scene featuring nubile victim Carly (Sabina Mach), the film cuts to down-on-her-luck pawn-shop customer Grace (a very watchable Gigi Zumbado) trying with another trinket just as the place is being burgled by three armed robbers; these are former army medic Cody (Stephen Dorff), plus brothers Alex (Emile Hirsch) and Shane (Tanner Zagarino). A fourth man in the gang, the getaway driver, takes off in a panic and Grace is pressed into driving them away from the crime scene after Shane is shot in the leg.

Director Dillon Brown works as a Program Analyst for the Department of Defense and has joined forces with highly decorated former Green Beret, Michael Rock, to cast actual veterans, first responders and law enforcement in the film, as many use acting as a way to combat Ptsd. Ghost includes members of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, as well as paramedics, fire-fighters and sheriffs officers.

Over the last couple decades, director Mike Hurst has brought us several genre films – House of the Dead 2, Room 6, The Darkroom, Pumpkinhead 4: Blood Feud, Paradox – and his latest is a self-financed labor of love he has been working on for the last four years. It’s called Transmission, and it has been officially accepted into the Pigeon Shrine FrightFest festival that’s set to be held in London from August 24th through 28th. Mvd Entertainment Group has picked up the North American distribution rights to the darkly comedic thriller Wrong Reasons, which was executive produced by and features Kevin Smith. The company is planning to give Wrong Reasons a digital, VOD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 15th.

Coming our way from AntiCurrent Productions, the film marks the feature writing and directorial debut of Josh Roush, who has been working for Smith’s company Smodco for the last decade. Genre fans will get their money’s worth from “The Price We Pay,” a violent and grisly crime-horror-action outing with no pretensions of being anything else. What this tale of crooks holed up at a lonely farm with a hideous secret lacks in originality it makes up for with energetic direction by Ryuhei Kitamura (“Midnight Meat Train”), excellent practical gore effects and strong performances by a quality cast including Emile Hirsch, Stephen Dorff and Gigi Zumbado. The kind of no-nonsense exploitation film that once had ’em hootin’ at the grindhouse, VOD-available “Price” will be released on limited screens by Lionsgate on Jan. 13.

First up, from Ryûhei Kitamura, the director of Midnight Meat Train, comes Lionsgate’s The Price We Pay, which just debuted on VOD this Tuesday and comes to select theaters Friday.

Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) star in The Price We Pay, which looks like a genre fusion of an action-thriller and a slasher movie all in one crazy package.

End of Loyalty, the latest feature directed by Hiroshi Katagiri, a special effects and makeup expert whose long list of credits includes The Mandalorian, Captain Marvel, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Pacific Rim, The Hunger Games and James Cameron’s latest blockbuster, Avatar: The Way of Water, has been picked up by Uncork’d Entertainment for the U.S.

The shoot-’em-up stars genre icons Vernon Wells (Mad Max II : The Road Warrior) and Michael Pare (Streets of Fire), alongside Braxton Angle, Justice Joslin, Simon Phillips, Sho Ikushima and Tenley Kellogg, and follows a man seeking retribution after his father, the head of a notorious crime family, is killed by a rival. But as his grief turns into violence and destruction, his best friend, a federal agent, does everything he can to keep him from going off the deep end. Their friendship is tested as both men cling to their conflicting moral codes.

Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan), Elissa Dowling (Girl on the Third Floor), Rachel Riley (Giantess Attack vs. Mecha Fembot), William McNamara (Copycat), Janet Wang (Arena Wars), Robert Lasardo (The Mule), Vernon Wells (Commando), Vincent M. Ward (The Walking Dead), Hans Hernke (Night of the Tommyknockers), and Mike Ferguson (Amityville Uprising) star in the upcoming horror film Amber Road, which is said to deliver so much gore that it’s being referred to as “splatter-core”. Coming to us from Koa Aloha Media, the film is currently streaming exclusively on AlohaStream and will be reaching DVD and Blu-ray on January 10th. (Pre-order a copy Here). A VOD release will follow on January 30th.

Made on a budget estimated to be around 60,000, Amber Road has “drawn comparisons to Saw, Terrifier, and Hostel for its up-close and personal horror.” It promises to deliver a complex story while also showing off plenty of close-up gore.
