Tall English character actor, who specialised in aristocrats, effete dandies, and the occasional rogue. Rarely seen without monocle and waxed moustache. His lengthy theatrical career at the London West End lasted from 1910 until his retirement in 1954, only interrupted by his wartime service in the RAF.
