Elena Tsyplakova is a Soviet and Russian theater and film actress, director. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1996). People's Artist of the Russian Federation (2013).
Elena was born in Leningrad into a family of graphic artists. Since childhood, she has been actively involved in figure skating, swimming, and pentathlon. While still a schoolgirl, she began acting in films with director Dinara Asanova.
The film Ne bolit golova u dyatla (1975) was released in 1975. The role of Irina Fyodorova brought wide fame to the young actress. Since then, offers for filming have been coming to Elena non-stop. In Dinara Asanova's film Klyuch bez prava peredachi (1977) she again played a schoolgirl. Pavel Lyubimov's film Shkolnyy vals (1979), where she played the main character, Zosya Knushevitskaya, was a huge success among the audience. In 1979, was released the super popular film D'artagnan and Three Musketeers (1979), in which Tsyplakova played a small but touching role as the maid Katie.
In 1978 she graduated from the acting department of the State Institute of Theater Arts named after Anatoli Lunacharsky. In 1979 she graduated from the acting department of VGIK, workshop of Lev Kulidzhanov and Tatyana Lioznova. In 1985 she graduated from the directing department of VGIK, workshop of Aleksandr Alov and Vladimir Naumov. After her directorial debut in the 1988 film Grazhdanin ubegayuschiy (1988), Karen Shakhnazarov invited Elena Tsyplakova to his creative association 'Start'. There, in 1989, she shot her first full-length film, Kamyshovyy ray (1989).
