His first name was Anthony and he was educated at Lordswood Technical Grammar School for Boys from where became a :G:PO clerical worker and caught the acting bug at the GPO Amateur Theatricals Drama School from where he got his first job which launched him to fame in playing Sandy Tonyman 5 in Crossroads
