In his new exclusive uInterview, actor Hans Tester discussed what his favorite part of working on Jake Johnson‘s new film Self Reliance.
Tester recalled how memorable the set was when he first viewed it.
“The first time I saw the first set it was this incredible room because we’re Icelandic, the game show hosts were Icelandic, and this set was this incredible interior that was painted, this huge warehouse-like room,” he recalled.
He described the intricate details the set included and how it was “painted with like old Icelandic saga imagers like polar bears and indigenous people and it was all ancient and it was like, whoa.”
The attention to detail was important to the movie as a whole, as Tester explained, “It just set the tone so incredibly for some kind of movie, you didn’t know what it was going to be, but it set the...

Jake Johnson describes his new film “Self Reliance,” which he wrote and directed, as “‘Jacob’s Ladder’ with some laughs.” The film is a comedy with real stakes: Johnson stars as a man who winds up in a game where he’s trying to win a million dollars while hunters try to kill him. The twist is he discovers that the hunters can only attack him when he’s alone. But when none of his friends or family believe the game is real, Johnson’s character must figure out how to survive on his own.
There are scary moments, but more often it’s also really funny. And the audience screening it on Saturday night at the South by Southwest festival in Austin rocked the Paramount Theatre with big laughs throughout the film’s tight 85 minutes.
“I love ‘Jacob’s Ladder.’ I love it so much. I do get some laughs,” Johnson said after the screening.

Well now, that was much better! (Thanks to writer Nancy Oliver.) But I really want to thank the delightful Denis O'Hare and James Frain who had me gleefully chortling through half the episode. That's the half without Sam and family, Arlene, Jason, Sookie and Alcide. After a real dark turn last hour, Frain set Franklin's emotions free and he was riotously all over the place. Meanwhile, O'Hare was everything that an evil overlord should be: wry, sarcastic, bloodthirsty, decisive, smarter than and ten steps ahead of his subjects.
Talbot talks to Tara as if she's a pet and he taunts Franklin who is fussing with Tara's hair. The boys bare fangs and are about go at each other when in walk Russell, Bill and Lorena, their faces caked with blood. There's a quick bandy of questions and retorts as to who is where and why and who knows whom. Talbot...

Finally, “True Blood” fans will get more of Eric Northman’s pre-vampire days this next season. Back in February, SciFi Mafia reported on the casting call for Eric’s human father. Hans Tester (“Better Off Ted”, “Alias”) has since been cast to play Ulfrick, a Viking king. Alexander Skarsgard, who plays the vamp fave Eric Northman, talks about his on-screen dad Ulfrick and his character’s Viking warrior days:
“It is about vengeance – I can’t say what – but yeah, something happened when Eric was still human a thousand years ago. Early on in [the third season], he gets an opportunity to kind of avenge someone’s death.”
[Below: Hans Tester will play Eric Northman's human father in flashbacks to Eric's Viking warrior days. More after the jump.]
Where does wildlife come in? Check out the latest poster in the weekly countdown to the premiere of HBO’s “True Blood” warns visitors of the furry characters taking residence in this third season. This is the sixth poster in the series. Funny that there...
