Mother of actress Eva Mattes.

Hungarian-born dancer and actress, trained in Budapest. First successes in her native country in stage revues and operettas. In Germany from the early 1930's. Performed at the Metropol Theater in Berlin as a dance team with her brother Michael. In films from 1934, usually as dancers, gypsies or exotic 'other women'. Married to the Austrian composer Willy Mattes whom she accompanied to Sweden in 1946. Divorced Mattes in 1951 and returned to Germany. Very sporadic appearances in small roles on screen, mostly for television, between 1954 and 1993.

Margit Symo went to Sweden after the war where she got married with the conductor Willy Mattes.

She had her breakthrough in Germany where she made her film debut with "Zigeunerblut" (1934). This was the beginning of a successful career which lasted till the end of war. It followed many entertainment movies in which she also was able to prove her dancing talent.

In the second part of the 50's her fame faded. She only acted seldom in front of the camera.

The actress and dancer Margit Symo began her career in her home country Hungary in Budapest where she got in contact with the acting and dance.

When she returned from Sweden to Germany in de 50's she was able to gain a foothold in the film business again and impersonated support roles in some popular productions.
