Florida Georgia Line member Brian Kelley’s plan to bring a country-music musical to life as a legit stage production is now extending to a movie version that is being developed simultaneously.

Kelley and his partners announced not just a film iteration of “May We All” — whose planned staging has been put off due to the pandemic — but the director who’s been tapped for a movie version: Andy Fickman, whose credits include directing and exec-producing CBS’ TV series “Kevin Can Wait” as well as a number of feature films and stage productions.

The stage version, announced in Variety in 2019, was set for a developmental production at Memphis’ Playhouse in the Square in fall 2020, to have been followed by an official Nashville premiere in 2021. As lockdowns have pushed any of these stage debuts further back, producers decided to move up a film adaptation.

ABC has given a script commitment with penalty to Moss Landing, a romantic music drama from The Son and Hemlock Grove co-creator Lee Shipman, Empire and Star co-creator Lee Daniels and his Lee Daniels Entertainment, Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley and his CuzBro production company, and 20th Century Fox TV, where Daniels is under an overall deal.

Written by Shipman, who also serves as showrunner, Moss Landing, set in a small Florida coastal town, follows Marion James, a disgraced country star, and Sky Miller, an African-American gospel and soul singer in a sweeping love story. Over the course of the first season, we’ll unravel the mysteries of Marion and Sky’s troubled pasts, watch them navigate the highs and lows of rebuilding their lives, and experience the love that binds them together, all set to genre blending music numbers.

The duo have set up a country music-gospel mashup series to a script plus penalty deal at the Disney-owned network, meaning ABC will be forced to pay a penalty if the series isn’t picked up.

Lively McCabe Entertainment announces a partnership with Brian Kelley -- of the multi-platinum, award-winning duo Florida Georgia Line -- via his CuzBro Productions banner, on the recently announced new musical May We All. Kelley and partners Stephen Snedden and Justin Halliwell join previously announced producers, Lively McCabe Entertainment President Michael Barra, and Elyse Cogan, Director, Theatrical for BMG. CuzBro will be actively involved in the creative development of the project, and a developmental production will be staged in Memphis, Tennessee at Playhouse on the Square in the fall of 2020 dates Tba.
