The After Dark Horrorfest was a game-changer back when it premiered in 2006. Not only was this film festival devoted to the horror genre, it was accessible. Founder Courtney Solomon (An American Haunting) chose the best possible venue for this “ultimate celebration of horror”: the big screen. So from November 17 to 21, these hand-picked titles were shown at select theaters across the U.S.
There have been four “sequels” to the After Dark Horrorfest since then, but for many horror hounds like myself, the original one is a bit more meaningful. It was an exciting time for discovery, developing one’s own taste, and for learning what the genre had to offer in the non-mainstream sector.
So in honor of this momentous film fest, we look back at the first “8 Films to Die For”.

Kathy Bates is making a massive comeback with her career in her latest role as Madeline Matlock in the new show Matlock.
The new series is a fan favorite and was renewed for Season 2 after just two episodes. Although Kathy was scared at first, she is coming into her own with the role.
Kathy shared that this would be her last role, and she was ready to retire before being offered this new role with a twist. She seems to love the acting, and hopefully, the show will last for years.
The original Matlock featured Andy Griffith as an older lawyer who solves cases each week while dispensing wisdom to everyone, so there are some differences, as Monsters and Critics has reported.
Still, the new show’s surprising twist, revealed at the end of the first episode, explains why Madeline Matlock is trying so hard to get a job at...

What really happened after the cut to black at the end of "The Sopranos"? It's a question that's plagued fans of the HBO mob drama for close to two decades now, but it sometimes seems like a question without an answer. The abrupt end to Tony Soprano's story, which came as he and his family sat down for a fairly normal-seeming dinner at Holston's, was for years presented by series creator David Chase as a sort of Schrodinger's Cat situation. Either Tony (James Gandolfini) is dead, or he's not, but we can't know since we weren't given that information. The end is what it is, and all we can do is make peace with it.
But the fact that so many "Sopranos" fans naturally took the cut to black to mean Tony could've been killed must mean something, right? This interpretation wasn't random, as there were details in the...

Seventeen years after it first aired on HBO, the series finale of "The Sopranos" still stuns. David Chase's polarizing but powerful decision to end one of the best TV shows of all time with a sudden, ambiguous cut to black remains bold and shocking, even as countless other small screen sagas have come and gone.
In the new HBO two-part documentary "Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos," the series creator, writers, executive producers, and an occasional director gets surprisingly candid about both the show's inception and its ending. The rest of the cast and crew does too, with several involved in the finale recalling their initial disbelief at the show's withholding ending. "It was so sudden and strange," actor Michael Imperioli noted, while co-star Drea de Matteo said she called around to ask if her TV had gone out. According to star Lorraine Bracco, who played psychiatrist Dr.

New episodes of Yellowstone are right around the corner! Yellowstone season 5 part 2 premieres on Nov. 10, 2024. In fact, the new trailer for the series just dropped, too!
It’s been so long since the first half of Yellowstone season 5 ended on Jan. 1, 2023. Almost two years will have passed by the time all six episodes in season 5 part 2 air. And, unfortunately, you do have a fair bit of time until the show returns.
Luckily, we picked out seven shows like Yellowstone to watch while you wait for Yellowstone season 5 part 2! We didn’t include 1923 or 1883 for obvious reasons, but we highly recommend watching those, as well!

Eleven seasons and 250+ episodes is one hell of a run for a show, especially a sitcom. But that’s just where Married…with Children ended. But when you get the news from some randos, that might put a bit of a sting on it. Christina Applegate’s Married… With Children papa, Ed O'Neill, was this week’s guest on the MeSsy with Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler podcast. “I don’t even know how to explain this person,” Applegate said as she introduced her fictional father. “He raised me, so if you don’t like anything about me, it’s his fault.”
To be fair, she added, “If you do like anything about me, also his fault.”
Applegate almost didn’t get to play Kelly Bundy to O’Neill’s Al Bundy. At 15, the young actress read the pilot script and concluded, “This is toilet humor. And I don’t do toilet humor. It’s totally gross.”
Married… with Children hired two other kid actors — David Faustino wasn’t an original Bundy either — and shot the pilot. “It didn’t work,” Applegate remembered. “They came to me and said, ‘Please, please just watch the pilot that we did.

Comedies may not get the prestige and glory of dramas when it comes to awards, but the filmmakers behind them would probably agree that they're infinitely harder to make. The hope is that what's being captured on set will make audiences laugh months, sometimes even years, after production is wrapped. In order to determine whether something is funny, you're relying on a much smaller crew of people, from those who wrote the script to the crew behind the camera. If they're laughing, you're probably doing something right. But comedy is extremely subjective, and you never really know if you've got a true crowd-pleaser until those first test screening reactions start rolling in.
But in the case of Will Ferrell and Jon Favreau's modern classic holiday comedy "Elf," which follows an orphan human raised by elves at the North Pole as he tries to reconnect with his estranged biological father...

We all know that San Diego comes from the German for whale’s vagina, but did you know that a lot of the banter between Ron Burgundy and co-anchor Veronica Corningstone was off the cuff? As much as TV anchors need their scripts to deliver the news, Will Ferrell and Christina Applegate were encouraged to venture far off of theirs when making 2004’s Anchorman.
Ferrell and Applegate recently got together on the latter and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s joint podcast, MeSsy (via EW), to reflect on their time filming Anchorman, particularly how director Adam McKay would make frantic calls from behind the camera. As Ferrell put it, “A lot of that stuff, Christina and I going back and forth insulting each other, some of that was scripted, but so much of that was like, ‘Just keep going!’ Adam just wouldn’t yell cut, so you just had to keep going. In yet another example of life imitating art, Will Ferrell irritated James Caan nearly as much as Buddy bugged his biological father Walter Hobbs in the Christmas comedy Elf. In fact, between scenes, Caan would tell Ferrell that he didn’t understand why everyone found the Saturday Night Live star so hilarious.
“He would tease me,” Ferrell confessed on Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s MeSsy podcast. “In between setups, he would be like, ‘I don’t get you. You’re not funny.’ And I’m like, ‘I know. I’m not Robin Williams.’ And he was like, ‘People ask me: ‘Is he funny?’’ And I’m like, ‘No, he’s not funny.’”
In the film, Caan wasn’t simply putting on as the irritated dad. “He's not acting,” Ferrell claimed. “He's truly annoyed with me. ‘This guy, shut the fuck up. Jesus!’ I literally drove him crazy in that movie,...

James Caan wasn’t exactly acting when he seemed annoyed with Will Ferrell while filming Christmas classic Elf.
In an interview with Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler’s Messy podcast, Ferrell revealed that his late co-star Caan didn’t “get” his humor at first. Instead, Ferrell drove Caan “crazy,” just like his character.
“James Caan, may he rest in peace, we had such a good time working on that movie,” Ferrell said. “He would tease me. Christina, you know: I like to do bits, but I’m not like ‘on’ all the time. Will Ferrell has revealed why he doesn’t go by his birth name.
At the end of the latest episode of Christina Applegate and Jamie Lynn Sigler’s podcast MeSsy, Ferrell participated in a game where his Anchorman co-star analyzed his personality according to his picks for his top five favorite movies. After noticing that Ferrell picked ensemble films like The Godfather and Shawshank Redemption, “where somebody would have your back,” Applegate noted that the actor may have felt that growing up, he didn’t have “a place of belonging in a group.”
Ferrell confirmed there was “a lot of validity to that” and shared a story from his childhood. “You know what’s interesting about that [analysis]? This is like a minor thing—it’s not really even trauma. I remember being so embarrassed because my real name is John. John William Ferrell,” he said.

Though the name “Will Ferrell” carries immense prestige today, it conceals a dark secret that haunted Ferrell on every first day of school he ever attended.
Anyone familiar with Ferrell’s work would reasonably assume that it would be exceptionally hard to embarrass the Saturday Night Live legend. After all, we’ve seen Ferrell semi-to-fully-nude and screaming nonsensically in roughly $2.6 billion worth of various box-office successes, but we never once saw him blush. However, there is one way to humiliate the Anchorman and Elf star that’s stood the test of time since his very birth — call him by his real name.
Like many such stars, the moniker Ferrell sports for the posters and credits of his blockbuster comedies (sort of) isn’t the one that’s on his driver’s license, and the stage name of “Will Ferrell” wasn’t what teachers called him in elementary school.

After Christina Applegate candidly discussed her struggles with depression caused by her multiple sclerosis diagnosis and stated “I don’t enjoy living,” the actress is addressing the concern that arose from it.

Christina Applegate, who was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, opened up about her past struggles with eating disorders for the first time on the latest episode of her MeSsy podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler. Applegate told Sigler she developed an eating disorder when she was eight and struggled with it until her thirties.
The Dead To Me Star recalled she was derided for her weight when she was eight when a friend called her “fat.” The actress shared she had started to feel her issues with weight crop back up after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2020, noting, “When you lived with anorexia as long as I did in my early life. On the latest episode of their podcast MeSsy, Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler reflected on their previous struggles with eating disorders.
Applegate recalled that her mother put her in Weight Watchers when she was 15. “She was always competitive,” said the actress about her mom, who had body image issues of her own. “If I got down to 110 [pounds]… she’d be like, ‘Oh! I’m so mad! How’d you do it? How’d you get down to 110?’ And the reason why was because I had an eating disorder.”
The Dead to Me alum said she would eat five almonds in a day and if she had six, she would cry and would refuse to leave her house. “That stuck with me for years and years and years,” she said.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler says she was told not to disclose her multiple sclerosis diagnosis on The Sopranos by the set physician.
While appearing on Sophia Bush’s podcast Work in Progress, the actress shared that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 20-years-old, a year after receiving a Lyme disease diagnosis.
Shortly after being told she had Ms, she had her cast physical and told the physician about her latest health update. “He’s like, ‘Uh yeah, I don’t think you should tell anybody about that and I’m not going to put this down [on your medical records],'” Sigler recalled.
“I just followed his advice because I also wasn’t that symptomatic at the time so it wasn’t something that I thought about, or that I had to think about all the time,” she explained. Sigler then confirmed she initially “told no one, absolutely no one” on the set about her Ms diagnosis.
