Angela Schanelec was born on 14 February 1962 in Aalen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. She is a director and actress, known for I Was at Home, But... (2019), The Dreamed Path (2016) and Music (2023). She was previously married to Juergen Gosch.

Studied at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB) from 1990 to 1995.

Member of the &#39;Filmmakers of the Present&#39; jury at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival in 2009.

Used to be a professional theatre actress before discovering cinema as a medium.

Professor for &#39;Narrative Film&#39; at the &#39;Hochschule für Bildende Künste&#39; (HfBK) in Hamburg since 2012.

With her late husband, theater director Juergen Gosch, Schanelec translated Shakespeare plays into German.
