“Black Mirror’s” Samuel Blenkin and “House of the Dragon” star Emily Carey have been cast as the leads in upcoming indie feature “Misper.”
A darkly comic film, “Misper” follows Leonard Lowry (Blenkin) and his colleagues as they deal with the disappearance of their friend Elle Pritchard (Carey).
“The employees of a dying seaside hotel have their lives upended when their colleague, Elle Pritchard vanishes,” reads the synopsis. “In a redirection of dramas featuring a missing person, the police investigation and focus on the perpetrator are traded for intimate and darkly comedic portrayals of the psychological impact on her co-workers.”
“Mis-per” is a portmanteau for “missing person.”
Joining Blenkin and Carey are Christine Bottomley (“Sherwood”) as Pam Shade, Daniel Ryan (“The Bay”) as Gary Jenkins and Oliver Ryan (“Dune Part One”) as Roy Pritchard along with from Sunil Patel, Rosalind Adler, Iona Champain and Jordan Brookes. The film, which recently wrapped,...

"The sign posts are all there - whether we choose to see them or not." What is this strange black liquid in here? BritBox has debuted the first US teaser trailer for a British crime series titled Passenger, arriving for streaming in the US in October later this year. It first launched in the UK on ITV back in March - that's quite a long wait for it to arrive for streaming in the US but so be it. Wunmi Mosaku stars as the ambitious detective in this darkly comic and twisty crime drama. Strange crimes start happening in Chadder Vale, but who - or what is behind them? As a series of particularly odd happenings and increasingly shocking crimes start unfolding within the town, Riya fights hard to convince the local villagers that all is not as it seems. The series cast includes David Threlfall, Daniel Ryan, Jo Hartley,...

Warning: binge-watchers only. Contains passenger finale spoilers.
If you go down to the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise … and if those woods happen to be in Chadder Vale, the fictional Northern setting for genre-crossing ITV mystery Passenger, that surprise may well be the end of you.
It was certainly the end of Mehmet, a Chadder Vale youngster lured in to the town’s deadly secret. It was very nearly the end of his pals John and Katie, and who knows how many others have fallen foul of The Pangaea Initiative’s strange experiment over the years?
With major spoilers for the Passenger finale, and more questions than there are stolen recycling bins in Tony’s lock-up, let’s pick apart what we know about this conspiracy.
What’s Going on at the Bread Factory?

Actor Andrew Buchan makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger, and here’s the trailer.
Andrew Buchan is probably best known for playing grieving father Mark Latimer in Chris Chibnall’s whodunnit Broadchurch. He has also played the title role in drama The Fixer, as well as parts in films like Nowhere Boy, All The Money In The World and The Mercy.
He now makes his screenwriting debut with ITV thriller Passenger.
The synopsis reads as follows:
Riya (Loki star Wunmi Mosaku) arrived in the quiet town of Chadder Vale five years ago and has since been searching for something, anything that will make her feel alive again. Then one night local girl Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) mysteriously disappears. The town barely has time to register her absence before she reappears the next day, apparently safe and sound. The townsfolk ask few questions and normal life resumes. But for Riya,...

For most single people without children, when conditions at home become unbearable, there is the option of moving away and trying something else. Disabled people, however, may lack that option, forcing them to resort to more radical solutions. Tony (Mark Smith), who has Down Syndrome, needs to live in a group home where he can get support with things like managing money and preparing meals, but doing so means having to put up with Michael (Daniel Ryan), who plays the same song continuously, unwilling to turn it off even at the dinner table.
Headphones are the obvious solution. Unfortunately for Tony, his have broken and he has no money with which to buy more. He does what is known in the system as ‘therapeutic work’ in a supermarket; it’s preferable to being idle, but his boss just doesn’t seem to comprehend the idea that, since other people are getting paid for.

If police drama remains the bedrock of British TV commissions, with 2022 having welcomed crime series Karen Pirie, Marlow, Magpie Murders, The Responder, Sherwood and many more, broadcasters also gave us a glittering seam of new fantasy and horror. Last year saw a host of new British supernatural and sci-fi series, from Joe Barton’s sci-fi action-thriller The Lazarus Project and the criminally since-cancelled YA Netflix fantasy The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, BBC Three teen horror Red Rose, Sky dark comedy The Baby, as well as a new telling of John Wyndham’s spooky children classic The Midwich Cuckoos.
Then there were shows that combined both threads, such as Amazon Prime’s mind-twisting The Devil’s Hour starring Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine, and Pete Jackson’s excellent debut Somewhere Boy. And some new British TV shows didn’t even feature a single murder, like Netflix’s adored Heartstopper graphic novel adaptation.

This review contains spoilers for all three episodes of BBC drama Crossfire
The ingredients of Crossfire are an all-inclusive buffet of delights. The terrifying prospect of an idyllic Canary Island hotel besieged by determined gunmen with a grudge. A magnificent cast including Keeley Hawes, Josette Simon and Lee Ingleby. A slick three-episode BBC production airing over consecutive nights with the added allure of a binge-it-all-on-iPlayer option.
So when Crossfire opens with a dazed Keeley Hawes voiceover vaguely pontificating about the nonlinear nature of time while we watch her swimming in a luxurious (but mysteriously empty for a massive holiday complex) pool, you can consider it an omen that all is not quite right with this BBC drama. Still, we’re teased with a scene where Keeley Hawes’ character Jo is alone on her hotel room balcony, one minute waving at her son as he dives into the now crowded pool,...

How many bad shows can a good actor star in before you have to start considering the possibly uncomfortable reality that they are, in fact, a bad actor? Well, this is an experiment that Keeley Hawes seems to be undertaking. Her second project of the year, after a middling adaptation of The Midwich Cuckoos, is the BBC’s new drama, Crossfire, written by Apple Tree Yard’s Louise Doughty. It finds Hawes trapped in a Spanish holiday resort as baby-faced gunmen go on the rampage. If her agent was looking for a project to make The Bodyguard look cerebral, boy did they find it.
Hawes is Jo, wife of Jason (Lee Ingleby) and mother of Adam (Noah Leggott) and Amara (Shalisha James-Davis). She’s just arrived on holiday with two other couples: Vikash Bhai’s Chinar and Anneika Rose’s Abhi, and Miriam (Josette Simon) and Ben (Daniel Ryan). The...

Britain’s leading lady of the TV action thriller, Keeley Hawes, is back.
The star of “Bodyguard” returns in “Crossfire,” another nail-biting thriller for the BBC in which Hawes plays a holidaymaker whose sunbathing session on her hotel balcony becomes a nightmare when shots ring out across the complex, turning her world upside down.
The scenario will remind audiences of her turn as the U.K. home secretary alongside Richard Madden’s bodyguard in the eponymous BBC drama, which became a global hit when it was picked up by Netflix.
The setting for “Crossfire,” however, is a far cry from London’s Westminster, instead set at a luxury resort in the Canary Islands.
Produced by Fremantle’s Dancing Ledge Productions (“The Salisbury Poisonings”), the drama is the first original series from author Louise Doughty, who previously adapted her novel “Apple Tree Yard” for a hugely popular BBC limited series.

Ealing Studios has acquired a significant stake in TV and film company GreenAcre Films and forged a new creative partnership with the company that will see Ealing Studios expand its TV division.
Having already announced earlier this year the ITV commission of Maigret for two stand-alone films starring Rowan Atkinson, Ealing Studios’ stake in GreenAcre will see them develop a TV slate for both UK and international broadcasters.
It marks the first partnership at the newly restructured Ealing Studios headed by Ben Latham-Jones.
Co-founded by Nadine Marsh-Edwards and Amanda Jenks in 2010, GreenAcre Films became a division of Wall to Wall in 2012. It will continue to co-produce its current drama slate, which includes projects for HBO, BBC and ITV.
As well as developing new TV projects, GreenAcre will also expand its feature film roster which already has a number of titles in development with the BFI.
In a joint statement, GreenAcre co-founders Nadine Marsh-Edwards and Amanda Jenks said:...

Chicago – I’m on board with Jude Law leading a film and neutral about submarine movies as a genre. My primary pre-screening interest in the quietly marketed thriller “Black Sea” was what Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald would do with this material following his hit with the hard-hitting drama “The Last King of Scotland”.
As it turns out, Jude Law as a desperate, angry and greedy skipper is not nearly as impactful as Forest Whitaker’s brutal Ugandan dictator. And “Black Sea,” which dives down to oceanic hull break point, isn’t propelled by nearly as deep of a story as the Oscar-winning Whitaker film.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
As for standing the test of time, “Black Sea” won’t. The film will not appear on favorite submarine film lists in the company of greats including “The Hunt for Red October,” “Crimson Tide,” “U-571,” “K-19: The Widow Maker,” “The Abyss” and “20,000 Leagues Under...

Right on the heels of Universal moving Fast & Furious 7 up a week from April 10th, 2015, to April 3rd, Focus Features has announced some schedule changes of its own for 2015. Now, horror threequel Insidious: Chapter 3 will open not on April 3rd next year but May 29th. Furthermore, sci-fi drama Selfless has moved from February 27th to April 17th, and Oscar winner Kevin Macdonald’s treasure hunt drama Black Sea has been set for January 23rd.
Now, let’s look at those one at a time.
We don’t know much about Insidious: Chapter 3 other than that it will star The Grey actor Dermot Mulroney and A.N.T. Farm actress Stefanie Scott. Leigh Whannell is both directing and scripting this installment, and he is also expected to reprise his role as Specs. Kevin Macdonald’s been busy. Alternating between feature films and documentaries (he had one of each in 2013), he’s back with an action thriller in 2014. While a preliminary plot synopsis doesn’t quite spark the imagination, Macdonald’s got a knack for off the cuff momentum, even in material that’s sometimes a bit tepid (2009′s State of Play, for instance). An unassuming cast adds to intrigue.

The first photos are out of Jude Law in Kevin Macdonald's treasure hunting thriller "Black Sea" via EW.
Originally slated for an older actor, Law "adopted an Aberdeen accent, put on weight, built up his forearms and shoulders, shaved his head and let his stubble grow out" to nab the part.
In the film he plays a submarine captain who gets laid off by a salvage company. Looking for money and payback, he accepts a gig from a shadowy backer to hunt for a sunken Russian U-boat at the bottom of the Black Sea said to be loaded with gold.
Assembling a crew of Russian and English sailors to help him, the captain quickly begins to realise how dangerous a situation he has put himself in as tensions onboard boil over and both greed and desperation take hold.
Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, Jodie Whittaker, Karl Davies, and Daniel Ryan also star.

Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has landed a role on Mount Pleasant.
The actress - who played Ronnie Mitchell on the BBC soap - told Click Liverpool that she will appear in the third series of Sky Living's comedy drama.
"I begin filming Mount Pleasant for TV alongside Pauline Collins [Sue] in Manchester soon," said Womack. "And there may be a musical towards the end of this year, beginning of next, so that'll keep me busy."
Womack, who left EastEnders in 2011 after four years on the show, revealed that she is eager to move into directing in the future, after shooting an anti-bullying video in 2005.
"There's a film in the back of my mind I'd quite like to get out there and the older you get, the more sort of self-conscious and less comfortable in front of the camera you become," she explained.

One of the first titles for DC's 'New 52' relaunch was Detective Comics, the line which brought Batman into the world about 70 years ago. I was hooked by the first issue, and while it wasn't perfect, it felt like an instant classic to me. The excellent artwork, the compelling storyline, and believable characters all showed me that this was a title to follow. The second issue wasn't quite as good, but was still great. Now, the much anticipated third issue has hit stores. In this issue, Batman learns about how the Dollmaker uses various pieces of flesh from people he murders to....well, make dolls. As usual, there's some major spoilers in the following, so skip to the final paragraphs if you don't want to be spoiled before reading the issue. Detective Comics #3 (2011) Rating: Written By: Tony S. Daniel Art/Cover By: Tony S. Daniel Ryan Winn Synopsis: He makes...

Sky One’s new comedy drama Mount Pleasant started last night with them gloating a star-studded cast and a show written by Sarah Hooper off of Shameless. The shows lead role of Lisa is played by Sally Lindsay who was reportedly really happy and excited by the new show and Sky One website even claims she ‘raves’ about it. From what I’ve gathered it’s meant to be a sort of British Desperate Housewives style look at suburban life and all the “nonsense” that comes with it. I can definitely say that if felt desperate and there were some housewives in it.
The first episode begins with Lisa being dropped off in town by her husband of ten years Dan (Daniel Ryan) and a tiny piece of dialogue that reads, Dan, “have a nice afternoon”, then Lisa, “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”, and then in unison they both say,...

The summer of 2008 – happy days for Russell T Davies. Or should that be Lord Rusty Of Daviestown OBE, given that in mid-June it was announced that he would be joining the august ranks of Tim Henman, Bill Oddie and Sir James Of Savile by being appointed to the order of the British empire. Clearly whoever decides these things had not been watching New Earth that day.
Still, the cynics were out in force, given that at the time, Rusty's last written Who contribution was Partners In Crime , a story that's not regarded with the warmest welcome from fans (although I rather like it). So the day after the announcement of the OBE, his next writing assignment was due to be broadcast. Would this be another Last Of The Time Lords fiasco?

A very Happy Sunday to everyone! This week we bring you an Edward and Bella themed video from christy0619′s channel and is titled Bella & Edward || Tears of An Angel and features Tears of An Angel by Dan Ryan.
This is such a melancholic journey of Edward and Bella’s love story from its beginnings in Twilight, the trials and tribulations in New Moon and the reaffirmation of their love in Eclipse, only to end in bliss as they seal their commitment to each other in the highly awaited wedding in Breaking Dawn, thus starting their almost perfect forever. Dan Ryan’s Tears of Angel is so apt and coupled with the clips chosen, have the effect of tugging at our heartstrings. I especially love the dialogue used for the New Moon parts. It made Bella’s pain seem so raw.
What do you think of this video? Did it manage to tug at your heartstrings?...

Until recently, the closest thing we had to a cinematic embodiment of Marvel's God of Thunder Thor was in the 1987 teen comedy "Adventures in Babysitting." The debut of "Home Alone" director Chris Columbus was another entry in the "teen's getting into mischief while their parents are away and fixing everything moments before they get back home" genre, which also included "Ferris Bueller" and "Risky Business."
In the movie, Elisabeth Shue played a 17-year-old babysitter who goes on a madcap journey through the seedy underbelly of Chicago with her three underage charges. At one point they come to get their car from Dawson's Garage, and discover Dawson looks exactly like comicdom's Thor (and may actually be him).
As we anticipate the coming release of the big-budget feature adaptation of "Thor," we thought it might be good to weigh the pros-and-cons of both Asgardians and see who comes out on top.

These are the highways to hell. For the second straight year, The Daily Beast ranks the roads with the worst rush hour gridlock. How does your commute rank?
More than merely expensive, long commutes are mentally debilitating. They're also completely, absolutely avoidable. With that in mind, The Daily Beast set out to determine, for the second consecutive year, which cities have the worst commutes-and specifically, which stretches of road within each city experience the worst congestion.
