British actor Jamie Thomas King is adapting James Titcombe’s memoir Joshua’s Story: Uncovering the Morecambe Bay Maternity Scandal for the big screen.
King, best known for star turns in Mad Men and The Tudors, is penning a screenplay for Trust, a movie to be produced along with wife and Canadian actress Tamara Podemski as part of their newly-launched Blackbird Productions banner.
“Right now, I do not have intention to act in or direct the project. But yes, I became interested in the subject following Benjamin’s death and subsequent lawsuit,” King told The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.
In 2016, the preventable death of their second son, Benjamin, due to medical negligence occurred five days after Podemski gave birth after a delayed caesarean section. The star of Reservation Dogs and Outer Range at the time had been 14 days overdue and was rushed to the Royal United Hospital in Bath, Somerset,...

The Eastern Front is the story of some German soldiers whose unit has been all but decimated (we are told). The men are making their retreat (I think) from the Russians back to there homelands on the Eastern Front. Somewhere on the way they have picked up some pretty tasty (I mean fighting wise you perverts) Russian dames, and because there are females in the mix everything is going to fall apart for our band of merry Nazis. [Full disclosure before we crack on, this movie took me about 4 attempts to finish both due to the 2-Hour length and I have been working quite a lot lately]
Over the last few years I have come to find that behind the scenes on these movies, especially lower budget indie stuff, their is a team of hardworking individuals that are trying to create something they can be proud of when they send out into the world. This movie is absolutely no exception.

ReelzChannel's crime drama Cracked, which just debuted its second season earlier this month, has received 3 nominations from the Canadian Screen Awards. Besides nominations for Best Original Musical Score and Best Direction for Bruce McDonald (Pontypool), actor Rick Roberts also received a nomination for his guest role as a grieving father in the episode "How the Light Gets In."
Roberts wasn't the only actor to get a nod, however, as Cracked star David Sutcliffe earned a nod for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Detective Aidan Black, a seasoned Swat officer who transfers to the Psych Crimes and Crisis Unit after showing signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. Teamed with psychiatrist psychiatrist Dr. Daniella Ridley (Stefanie von Pfetten) — or with Dr. Clara Malone (Brooke Nevin) as he is in Season 2 — Black investigates strange and bizarre crimes that often come with emotionally disturbed criminals.

Relax, I’m From the Future
Written and Directed by Luke Higginson
Canada, 2013
Time travel is a concept that has been explored in numerous movies throughout history, with varying results both commercially and critically. While the real-life technology for the endeavour remains a pipe dream, the exploration of its ramifications and effects has yet to slow down. Relax, I’m from the Future is the latest film to tackle the idea, using an innovative approach to produce a compelling short that examines the human effects of time travel.
The idea of exploring the loneliness that comes with time travel, and how it affects a person, is a fascinating one. There is no doubt that travelling through time would be a fundamental defining point in a person’s life, but to be unable to share that knowledge with anyone would doubtlessly take its toll, and Higginson’s script smartly tackles this...

Pontypool is not a zombie movie — this is the first thing director Bruce McDonald wants you to know, and something you should know before watching (zombie fanatics, you have been warned). Though they go after other humans like zombies, and (debatably) move like zombies, the infected are what McDonald describes as “Conversationalists.”
Based on the short story “Pontypool Changes Everything” by Tony Burgess (who also penned the screenplay adaptation), Pontypool follows radio host Grant Mazzy (Stephen McHattie) and his morning crew (Lisa Houle and Georgina Reilly) during what begins as a normal, low-key Valentine’s Day morning. In a matter of hours, the day turns into a nightmare.

Is there really no escape from the living dead? Zombies have found their way to school curriculum (Max Brooks’ masterful novel World War Z can be found in the required reading section of your book store) and they have always been a part of mainstream cinema from The Night of the Living Dead right up to 28 Weeks Later. Pontypool is one of the more inspired takes on the zombie genre. The film is low budget and high concept. The zombie film, some will say, has become a tired piece of art. George Romero’s recent entries into the zombie canon (Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead) have been a far cry from his groundbreaking original visions in the late 1960’s through late 1970’s. The first 40 minutes of Pontypool marks a return to the roots of not only the zombie picture, but to horror in general. The things not seen are truly horrifying.

Though it’s unfairly playing second fiddle to another, higher profile horror movie also hitting theaters this week, Bruce McDonald’s Pontypool offers a classic case study in the genre’s fullest potential. Drenched in atmospheric malaise, it functions on the base visceral level mandatory for any such effort. At the same time, the screenplay by Tony Burgess (based on his novel "Pontypool Changes Everything") unashamedly stabs at sweeping social relevance with a narrative that condemns the bastardization of the English language that’s a regular feature of our twittered, instant messaged lives and the media fed bombast that enables it. The great, criminally underappreciated Stephen McHattie stars as Grant Mazzy, a cowboy hat affixed shock jock who has tumbled from the heights of his profession to its dregs: hosting a morning show in a small, bleak Ontario town. Joining him at work are his producer Sydney Briar (Lisa Houle) and a new assistant named Laurel Ann...

While at the Toronto International Film Festival, we caught up with Pontypool director Bruce McDonald who reveals exclusively to Bloody-Disgusting that he has a planned trilogy for the film, which follows a virus spreading through the English-language. "PONTYPOOL, if this first one is perceived well and does a bit of business, then well have the opportinuty to make parts two and three, which are kind of one big story." Click the title above for the review and some stills. Stephen McHattie, Lisa Houle, Georgina Reilly, Hrant Alianak and Rick Roberts all star in the film, which is currently looking for distribution.
