Dan Lovinger, who supervised an increasingly complex Olympics ad-sales effort for NBCUniversal and delivered what is believed to be a record level of Madison Avenue sponsorship for the recent Paris Olympics, is leaving the company as it seeks to revamp its efforts to lure advertisers to sports.
NBCU in 2022 assigned Lovinger to a new role overseeing all efforts to sell ads for the Olympics and Paralympics, separating him from the rest of the company’s sports sales. With NBC’s recent pact to secure NBA rights, however, the company sees sports as a significantly bigger driver of its business, and wants to have Olympics deals and other sports sponsorships sold in tandem in a bid to sell bigger packages.
In a memo sent to staffers Monday, Allison Levin, a president of NBCU ad-sales who supervises sales of national, local and sports media, said that sports and Olympics would be sold together,...

She can fly, she can fly, she can fly! Get a breakdown of every time Tinker Bell appears in a feature film from Disney.
Disney may have brought Tinker Bell into pop culture in the early ‘50s, but the tiny but feisty, winged pixie got her start in the 1904 stage play Peter Pan; or, the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up written by J.M. Barrie.
Since then, Tink has largely escaped Peter Pan’s shadow (no pun intended) and become an icon in her own right, appearing in countless animated series and movies.

In J.M. Barrie's original 1904 play "Peter and Wendy," the fairy Tinker Bell was typically represented by a powerful spotlamp, reflected onto the stage by a small hand mirror. Her dialogue was a series of small jingle bells, shaken offstage. When Barrie adapted his play into a 1911 novel, Tinker Bell remained mute, although she was able to participate in the action more closely. In the first film adaptation of Barrie's work, Herbert Brenson's 1924 film "Peter Pan," Tinker Bell was a light dangled by a string in long shots but actor Virginia Browne Faire in close-ups, either filmed against outside sets or composited into the frame.
In 1953, directors Hamilton Luske, Clyde Geronimi, and Wilfred Jackson brought Pan to life in the celebrated animated film "Peter Pan," released by the Walt Disney Company. In that film, Tinker Bell was also mute, but could be animated as a miniature person in most of her scenes,...

Filmmaker Scott Jeffrey has confirmed that the upcoming horror movie based on J.M. Barrie’s classic story Peter Pan will hit theaters in the first few months of 2025. Titled “Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare,” the film is the third installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe franchise.
Jeffrey, who wrote, directed, and produced the project, shared the release window during an Instagram interview. While he did not give a specific date, he said fans can expect the movie to premiere in early 2025. “Neverland Nightmare” will follow the surprise box office successes of the franchise’s first two films: “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” and its sequel.
Those movies reinvented beloved children’s characters in terrifying new ways. “Neverland Nightmare” takes a dark approach to Peter Pan as well. It stars Megan Placito as Wendy Darling, whose brother falls victim to a sinister version of the title character. In this adaptation, Peter Pan and...

Recently, a quote about Disney canceling Tinker Bell for being problematic has circulated around the internet, attributed to a “Disney representative.”
The alleged quote reads:
“Tinkerbell, unfortunately, has become an problematic image for our guests; specifically, young girls. Specifically, in terms of the portrayal of an unrealistic body image as well as dependency of approval and/or attention from Peter Pan, as seen in previous incarnations of the character. We feel these traits are no longer representive of our inclusive focused values and thus, are currently in process of redesigning an updated Tinkerbell for modern audiences.”
– Disney Rep, May 2024“ But is it true?
I can’t say for 100% certainty that it is not true, but I have several reasons for believing that it is not.

Countdown number-wrangler Carol Vorderman will tell you that she appeared on the very first celebrity version of a British TV show in December 1998, but Carol Vorderman has been getting high on her own supply. 18 months before she gave her Cher in a 1998 episode of Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes, Wendy Richard and Todd Carty from EastEnders graced episode one of Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, and they’d appreciate Vorders giving it a bit less of all that, thank you.
The point being: celebrity versions of TV shows are mostly dross. Not being able to choose from the top drawer of fame, they generally feature the packing peanuts of the TV world. These shows use what might be described as a homeopathic definition of ‘celebrity’, in that this glass of water has a better chance of remembering who any of the cast are than I do.

When is a private eye parody not a parody? Stephen Frears’ first feature strikes a delicate balance — its nearly absurd hardboiled lingo outdoes the spoofs, but the story and characters are pitched 100% straight. Chicago – After the massive success of “A Hard Day’s Night,” director Richard Lester was given more money and more creative freedom to direct “Help!,” a film seen as a disappointment by many at the time, including The Beatles themselves, but historically appreciated (as are most things John, Paul, George, and Ringo). The Beatles 1965 classic has been given a loving restoration, particularly in the sound department, and accompanied by interesting special features and attractive packaging. It’s a great gift idea for The Beatles fan in your family.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
How has the movie held up? So-so. It’s easier to appreciate some of the manic energy of the piece, a style that would influence everything from The Monkees to “Spice World,” but the film kind of wears out its welcome in terms of wacky behavior and doesn’t contain nearly enough actual music for a huge fan of The Beatles such as myself.

Actor best known as the haughty department store supervisor Captain Peacock in the TV comedy Are You Being Served?
The actor Frank Thornton, who has died aged 92, had a flair for comedy derived from the subtle craftsmanship of classical stage work. However, he will be best remembered for his longstanding characters in two popular BBC television comedy series – the sniffily priggish Captain Peacock in Are You Being Served? and the pompous retired policeman Herbert "Truly" Truelove, in Roy Clarke's Last of the Summer Wine.
Robertson Hare, the great Whitehall farceur, told him: "You'll never do any good until you're 40." And, said Thornton, "he was quite right." In the event, he was 51 when David Croft, producer of another long-running British staple, Dad's Army, remembered the tall, long-faced actor from another engagement and decided to cast him as the dapper floor-walker in charge of shop assistants played by Mollie Sugden, Wendy Richard,...

It was colourful, it made the city look beautiful, and included plenty of sex – Mike Sarne's film about one girl's lovelife in the capital defines the swinging 60s better than any other
No matter what you accomplish in life, a novelty hit casts a long shadow. David Bowie manages to get through most days without people shouting "laughing gnome" at him, but Mike Sarne is certainly best remembered for his No 1 single, Come Outside, a record that also introduced us to his (vinyl only) girlfriend, Wendy Richard. History is less quick to recall that he became a photographer of note, dated Brigitte Bardot and directed a film that competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
That film, Joanna, may be the ultimate swinging London film: it's colourful, makes the city look beautiful, includes plenty of sex and is even fairly believable. "I pitched it as the female Alfie," recalls Sarne,...

Big Brother returns with a bang tomorrow night and Big Brother’s Little Brother presenter George Lamb promises that his spin off show will be ‘revolutionary.’
Speaking to Channel 4’s Big Brother website, George Lamb revealed some of the changes planned to Bblb saying:
It’s very different from everything you’ve seen before. I have no audience, I have a co-host now. It’s going to be revolutionary Bblb and hopefully we’ll go out with a bang!
On working with his new co-host Emma Willis George added:
Having a co-host is a lovely lovely thing. I’ve really enjoyed Emma’s company and working with her over the years. Obviously she’s a huge Big Brother fan and she’s been on the show plenty. She was doing all the interactive stuff last year and it was kind of a natural progression. I wouldn’t want to...

This summer, Big Brother returns for one last, loud and lengthy hurrah, and with it, as ever, is its cheeky and irreverent younger sibling, Big Brother’s Little Brother. At the helm once again will be George Lamb (alongside new presenter and Big Brother obsessive Emma Willis). Here, George looks forward to a fantastic summer, looks back on his favourite moments over the show’s history, and reveals why real men can still cry.
So, George, what can you reveal about what’s in store for us with the last ever Big Brother this summer?
There’s nothing I can tell you yet! What I do know is that they’re going to be pulling out all the stops with the show this year. I think the intention is to really push the boundaries of what we’ve seen before, and make the most of it and create something really special.
